!!!2008 NFL Free Agency Thread!!! - Updated When Signings Occur

Also rotoworld is showing that Randy Moss may be signed sealed and delivered to the Pats, but he still may stick his toe in the water to see what kind of offers he gets. It is clearly his market to adjust the costs of his services.

NINERS START SPENDING

Though none are all that high in profile, the 49ers have already made a few moves in free agency.

The Niners reportedly have agreed to terms with Lions quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan, running back DeShaun Foster, and Vikings linebacker Dontarrius Thomas. Foster recently had been released by the Panthers.

Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rose Press-Democrat also reports that the Niners will host defensive end Justin Smith on Friday. Smith is scheduled to visit the Vikings, too.

Finally, receiver Isaac Bruce could be heading to San Fran, where he'd be reunited with former Rams coach Mike Martz, who's now the offensive coordinator of the Niners.

Here goes some updates:

Mark Simoneau (MLB) resigns with Saints
Jeff Faine (C) signs with Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Justin Smiley (OG) signs with Miami Dolphins

Asante Samuel is close to signing either with the Eagles or Saints
Alan Faneca is close to signing with the Jets

ALSO BIG NEWS:

The Giants and Saints are close to making a deal for Jeremy Shockey in exchange for a conditional second or third round pick in 2009 or a 2nd and 4th this year per Rotoworld.com.

Wow! is all i can say there...the G'men really think Kevin Boss is better than shockey? maybe they're trying to address needs at other positons...

also that list includes players who left their original teams YEARS ago...Taylor jacobs was cut by the skins years ago.

I could see Issac Bruce go back with his old coach and he would be the primary receiver in that offense since I know none of their wideouts are stellar. I'll adjust the list when the signings hit the wire.

Alright the second big trade is done Johnathan Vilma to New Orleans Saints for a 2009 conditional draft pick based on playing time because of his injury history.

The other big trade that just went through is the Browns traded their second round pick to Green Bay in exchange for DT Corey Williams. That is huge.

Also Brad Hoover resigns with the Panthers.

Boss gave them no reason to think otherwise in the playoffs and that might have made Shockey expendable. The teams listed are of the last team they play for and I know alot of them haven't played in a while but they were listed as the top free agents at their positions.

Shockey is a sure thing, but Boss is just as valuable to NYG as Shockey. The only thing he will need to learn quicker is how to block better. The TE position is expendable. Boss will be a viable option for Manning, and with the Giants facing bigger needs at S/LB/CB, we'll take the picks. Dude can't stay healthy, even if he bulked up. Best thing for his career Shockey is to stop partying and reunite with his former rookie coach.

But props to the Saints for holding their ground. They get a better exchange with both NY football teams. Vilma and Shockey? Damn. If I was a Saints fan, I would be  right about tomorrow morning if all this is true. The Giants better be prepared to face Shockey in the playoffs. The Giants better draft a big DB if they know what they're doing. Gibril is gone.

To take off my fair and balanced hat and put on my Saints fans hat, you ain't fucking lying...

Taylor jacobs played for, and was cut by, san fransisco sometime last year. just sayin' that wherever that database came from it's outdated.

Damn a 3rd and 5th!!!!!! He better play like his early years because he's been injured quite a bit.. We need a DT and this will help, but for how long...

Derek Anderson rejected a 2 year, 10 million dollar tender offer from the Browns and since he is a Restricted Free Agent he can sign with another team if the Browns don't match the offer sheet, but the Bwns will get a 1st and 3rd round draft pick from the team he eventually goes with for compensation. What team is stupid enough out there to do that?

Hopefully someone:D. Fuck Derek Anderson:hmm:.He wasn't the only reason we won 10 games

He's not going to help at all- jets run a 3-4-

he will be double teamed most the time- then will get injured :smh::smh:

BIG TRADES:

Johnathan Vilma to the New Orleans Saints from New York Jets in exchange for a conditional 2009 draft pick based on playing time.

WTF is this? Are the Jets that dumb? No wonder they get treated like they step kids they are.

Whats up with Asante and Larry Fitzgerald coming to philly? True?

Only way Philly gets Fitzgerald would be through a trade and if I am not mistaken he is currently counting 14.6 million against the cap and thats more than half of the Eagles available cap room. Asante maybe, but no way in this lifetime will the Eagles get Fitzgerald. He won't restructure with the Cardinals and I doubt he will restructure with the Eagles if the trade is made.

Well its actually win-win for them and for the Saints. Saints get a player who is currently rehabbing micro fracture surgery which is a hard surgery to rehab from and they give up a pick based on his production this upcoming season. The Jets already have that beast from Michigan David Harris in the middle that took his spot and was averaging like 15 tackles a game, and if Vilma recovers they will get a good pick so its a win win deal.

rumor is if Vilma makes pro bowl or hits other conditions it will become a 1st rounder or a second rounder at worst its a 3rd or 4th rounder...thats y jets traded him to saints. that defense will allow him to go back to his rookie year style of playing and get us a higher pick.

not dumb at all...if he plays like a beast we could get the saints 1st in 2009 for a guy who didn't fit our system and is coming off a knee injury...

Yep and the Saints get a young beast.

I don't know, he may have been injury free but he has been playing at a low level of production since he got really hurt in '05.

yeah true but he's still one of the top flight DT's and that helps us a lot especially with our linebackers...i mean with Harris that takes a lot of pressure of him to make plays for us...
