You would have to go to one of the mom and pop stores for it, but they are going to try to get you on the price.

You might want to try eBay.

from what a sony rep told me, the 80 gig is the exact same system only with a bigger hard drive and anyone that says the 60 gig is 100 percent compatible is wrong. apparently they are both 70 percent or so compatible. so if you want just wait til Metal Gear 4 comes out in june and get the bundle with the dualshock 3.

someone correct me if im wrong here.

You're wrong.

That sony rep lied to you.

The 60 gig is 99% compatible

The 80 gig is around 80-90% compatible.

I believe the 60gb is backward compatible via hardware, emotion engine, I think. While the 80gb is backward compatible via software emulation. If you want full backward compatibility, find the 60gb.

Hell naw they don't. My homeboy's Ps3 broke and he took the shit to Sony since he had a warranty and these niggas give him back a 40gig. Some ol' cheap ass shit. They would've gave me a 80gig or my money back.

Sony says it Underestimated the Demand for the 80GB PS3

April 03, 2008 | 3:59 PM PST
Speaking to GameDaily in a recent interview, Sony vice president of marketing Scott Steinberg said that the company underestimated the demand for the 80GB PlayStation 3. Asked about the number of PlayStation 3 SKUs on the market and whether or not the abundance of PS3 packages causes confusion for consumers, Steinberg had this to say:

"It hasn't hurt Apple. Our strategy at the end of the year was to offer up a $399 40 GB, which we thought was the magic price for a Blu-ray machine and then a $499 80 GB. What we were surprised to see is that $100 really didn't matter to a certain customer. Our sales were fairly equitable according to TRST and our internal numbers through the holidays and even into January; we're pretty dry on the 80 GB as a result of us underestimating the demand for the 80 GB and thinking that most folks, because the price message was such a big part of the pundits and the analysts decrying the differences between the 360 and the PS3, [would prefer the 40 GB]. Reality is the price wasn't that big of a deal and $499 sold a lot more than we thought, so the 80 GB got dry at retail not due to us artificially compressing it but the demand became greater than we thought. So you'll see us replenish these in the marketplace. We're still committed to our current strategy and there is much to do about nothing, I think is the way to think about it."

Sony has slowly been phasing out the current 80GB PS3, but it will replace it with a Metal Gear Solid 4/PS3 80GB bundle this June.

i have mgs4 game on reserve but unless they release a few 80gb models pre mgs4 i may have to cancel my game preorder and cop the mgs4 80gb bundle instead but thats 2 months away, i've been on the hunt for 2 weeks

correct, so far i've been lucky with the 80gb, all my ps2 games i've wanted to play have worked on my 80gb.

i might be the only thats weird about it, but ide rather just play ps1 games on a psx and ps2 games on a ps2. but thats just me.

So why are you concerned about the backwards capability?

who said i was?

im kinda diggin this though.

word good info, but is there a link or something how do you know for sure?

http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus

Complete database of games work and games that have problems.

60gb has Ps2 guts, just like the ps2 had ps1 guts. 99% of the games will work.

80gb, use software emulation most older games work usually the newer releases have problems, but they usually end up being fixed with updates.

So far I have 1 ps2 game that didn't work properly Naruto Ultimate ninja 3, but that's a new release.
