Music Debate: Other than Redman, which rapper had 3 classic in a row starting out?

I fuck with so many young broads I have a closet full of skinny jeans that came as gifts...I Cant wear that though:lol:

Its a classic in this era. Cant stop ocean tides, the moon does what it wants. I have been bamboozled by young stank:lol:

Get you a hot lil 24 year old & turn on Drake. And take a ride. Drake albums is like meshing Angela Winbush & Tribe Called Quest. It aint tradtional flame throwing hip hop. More like Kanye with more singing. Drake could have never got off if it wasnt for College Drop out.

Good company(female) & some sugar cookies(dozier) The nigga Drake is dope.

Opionions are like...I dont agree the Redman first 3 was classic. 1 most def & the 3rd joint muddy. I also think Predator by Cube just makes the cut because of all the social commentary.

Kanye first 3 joints All classics. Havent read back through the thread to see if someone mentioned him.

Drakes album's aren't classic in any era

It bothers me when revisionists try to label "It was written" as a classic smh.

But to the question, I too, heard this episode of Evening Jones, and I wonder if artists who started out in a group can be considered.

If so, Cubes first album would be Straight Outta Compton, and he'd definitely be on the list, as would Dre.

I've never heard an entire Too Short album, that's interesting that people say he belongs on this list.

Graduation was not a classic, in my opinion.

Kendrick might be the next to joint the list, though.
good points

I think we can include everyone

but I don;t think you can mix them up

so Cube JUST loses it by a hair.

and we disagree cause I think Graduation is classic status, but I understand that is a shaky one to some.

Yo Too Short?

yeah those albums were classic...but like MANY? there is a lot of context too.

I don't know about K. Dot

his last one was SO out there musically and sonically to call it a classic is tough for me

but it is a GREAT IMPORTANT and PIVOTAL record.

Not sure about fear of a Black Planet though.

Nas had 3 in a row until I Am... was bootlegged, which was a double album. I remember hearing the original in '98.

I wish Nas would re-release the album as a Special Edition or at least put out the original tracklist so his fans could hear how it was intended to be heard.

The bootleg was AMAZING.

Many rappers came close... IMO
I'll go with Strictly Business (Lol), Unfinished Business, and Business As Usual.
But, there are others like Road To The Riches, Wanted: Dead or Alive, and Live & Let Die.
I also wanna include Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, ATLiens, and Aquemini.
But.. I think the artist most overlooked was Mr. Scarface is Back, The World Is Yours, and The Diary.
Btw. I loved Dare Is A Dark side. But I don't think it was on the level of Muddy Waters and Whut? Thee Album.

Ice Cube for sure. "Classic" is such a loose label though. KRS One. Scarface. Ghostface.

fair but

its like Hall of famer...

we KNOW when you see/hear one.

that is why I think Redman is so special..

East West and everywhere in between...

hip hop fans agree.

that's powerful.

same for Outkast EPMD Tribe and Gangstarrr.

but to even be CONSIDERED for this list you had to DEBUT with a CLASSIC album

and then NOT get the sophomore jinx...

that is a VERY small list.

I think you making a compelling arguement.

Spice 1

-Spice 1
-187 He Wrote
-Amerikkka's Nightmare

Now the first two are undoubtedly classics in terms of str8 G, murder records. I throwing Amerikkka's Nightmare on there mainly because it had two epic 90's collabos; 'Jealous Got Me Strapped'w/ 2Pac and 'Hard To Kill'. Rest of the album was damn solid and was Spice's first real "mainstream" album IMO.

Man yall grading on a personal curve with some of these recommendations Like Mobb Deep (that 1st kiddie album was terrible).

Drake has great songs, has made a ton of cash, but he does not have a classic album that will hold up against any era imo.

Nas " I Am" almost killed his career and any credibility of being a real emcee. Damn yall really trying to rewrite history on that one.

I can't believe that I am reading that some folks dont think Redman Dare is a Darkside is a fucking masterpiece. Man lyrically that album is a fucking MONSTER. Maybe its generational or something. I thought is was better than Muddy Waters....but that album basically kept the doors open at Def Jam...and its a major fan favorite

Alkaholiks were one of my favorite groups, 2nd album was a masterpiece, third album fell way off imo, they got lazy and a tad too pop

but fuck it, since we are being homers

Eric B and Rakim
