Cuz the majority of the menfolx aren't actively checking for natural chix. If that was the visual preference, women would seek to attain it. They might SAY that is what they want, but actions speak louder than words, and they don't go unnoticed. Yes, I'm generalizing (somewhat), yes I've seen the afro/dreads/natural/curly hair threads on here, and no I don't have a perm or a weave so I'm not being defensive.![]()
Pretty much. Doubt black women would be on wigs/weaves as much if it was the desired look. If chicks wig wigs weave got shitted on like the ones without then more black women would be natural.
but people have actually ended relationships over hair and going natural. For the most part, I figure good riddance and they were lucky to find out now how fickle a person they were dealing with before something major...illness, disfigurement..would happen.

I remember when Chis Rocks doc came out and he had to go on Oprah TWICE because Black women were in tears angry with him for reveling their 'personal business' to the world.
What I don't get is...it IS difficult to maintain a natural look and not cheap either BUT it is MUCH cheaper and healthier to go natural then to continue to relax or get a weave.
But I will ALSO say in a corporate setting your look especially your hair is HEAVILY scrutinized.
Black men don't see hair because it's mainly trivial. The emphasis on hair worth and beautification is something that has been imposed on black women by the system of white supremacy that determines what beauty is. This system has determined the beauty standard for decades and black women have blindly assimilated themselves into it w/o understanding how much it belittles and dis-acknowledges different types of beauties that fall outside of the blonde hair and blue eyes characteristics.
Black women preach the gospel of hair-hate to their offsprings at an early age. How many times do you catch a relative (aunties and cousins) saying something like "ooh, she got that good hair"?
Trust me bro, it's a self-inflicted shot that has devastated black folks.

That goes back to slavery though, it isn't something Black men (or women) came up with out of nowhere

From dating women with natural hair (and paying on occasion) I can say it is expensive getting hair professionally braided and twisted and the products to support it. And depending on what you do with the hair it does go through a "ugly phase" when you are first growing it out and stuff. Many women tell me they couldn't deal with that.
the corporate thing is tricky...I think some women can get insecure if they NEVER went natural before. And also if its sudden the office can look at her like 'what you going through?'. And some cacs think because you have natural hair your more 'militant' then other Black folk. But I can tell you on interviews (not as much NOW) but when I was coming up that your hair style WOULD be held against you dreads cornrows etc and this goes for MEN and WOMEN.
and you correct that OTHER Black people tend to be have more issues with the hair thing...

I am surprised after that great doc that Chris Rock did that all of this stuff didn't begin to die out.
As I have told people before on this subject, black women are the alpha and omega. If they say they want to be beautiful naturally, the men who like them for who they are will be there.
Now the issue is this, will those women be willing to accept men who love them in that natural state? Some will, but some will question that man's idea beauty. I believe the white ideal of beauty is something that has poisoned some of our women's minds beyond repair.
Even Camille admitted the amount of attention she and other women receive is greater when it's straightened. That's not trivial.

I still believe black men are conditioned to think of it as trivial, because it was never allowed to be a factor.
Different argument. Hot combing the hair from time to time is not the same as continuously chemically-bathing your hair.Even Camille admitted the amount of attention she and other women receive is greater when it's straightened. That's not trivial.
A few years ago, at Thanksgiving dinner, my younger cousin had this expensive weave in her hair, and all of my aunts, grandmother, cousins, and mother were going crazy over it.
The fact that they REACTED in that way, IN MY OPINION, directly correlates to why black men trivialize black women hair.
You can't really talk about it, or touch it - so I guess you would trivialize it.

Everyone likes compliments. The last time I straightened my hair, I stopped at the store on the way home from getting my trim. This lil young dude told me how beautiful my hair was and gassed my head WAY up. Normally, I would have gone home and washed it out. LOL...I kept it straight the entire week...![]()

Men hate weaves that's what a lot of these women don't realize, not that a dude is gonna complain about it if all he wants is her draws.

Nah u haven't been paying attention, where u think all those weave jokes came from back when weaves first started being popular. Weaves is about a woman being too damn lazy to do her own natural hair. That's not what i've witnessed.

I think most dudes are just indifferent to weaves and all the other fake shit.
Nah. That shit is tacky to me. That's like me going out and buying a shirt with muscles built into it already. Be who you are and work with what you've got. Fuck the fake shit.

Well look at all the comments hereA few dudes. The majority by what i've witnessed? Go with the woman with the weave.

Women wearing wigs/weaves have nothing to do with pleasing men.
They do it to compete with other women. To look like the Indian or the white or the asian or the latina.
Because they say its hard to manage their own hair, and its easier to perm.
Because its more acceptable in the workplace.
Because straightened hair helps them attain a certain “look" that you find in the magazines or on TV.
It ain't got nothing to do with pleasing men.

*munches*
First off...
Shea Butter: 2 for $10.00
HH : $2.50
Water : free
Oils : maybe $8.00 every few months
Expensive? No.
Second...
Men like straight hair. They do. Either subconsciously or otherwise. They follow what they deem to be attractive.
It's not about afros and dreads and shit. It's about getting your hair done or doing it, in a style or even a ponytail or hot comb or whatever. At the end of the day a weave is not gonna be a dealbreaker, but I think most men would rather the woman NOT have it.*munches*

Men like straight hair. They do. Either subconsciously or otherwise. They follow what they deem to be attractive. There are no models, porn people, actresses, people in power that have locks, twists, short cuts - natural hair. Hell even people with short cuts now a days wear wigs (Ms. Leaks, whatever the purpose of that shit is). My coworker is blond (cause she likes it) but natural with a short cut. Her hair shits on that wig piece every day.
Want to change the outlook of a perception? Change the climate. Chris Rock and these puss scalp stories are only the warnings. IF people like Lupita stay natural and there are other high profile women of color who take that route, that will be the storm. Seeing more women mimic what God gave them naturally will be the eye. We won't talk about this. It would be our safe haven.
Do you believe that if black women all went natural tomorrow that black men would stop being attracted to them?
Do you feel that we would all just get white women?
