Why apple suddenly needs google again

I'm sure the Moto X is dope. But "my" issues with Android are:

- The UI after all these years still feels clunky (like it was designed by engineers...)

- If I launch a mobile website or app I have to test for an insane amount of variables (diff screen sizes, cpu's, gpu's, os versions, etc.)

- Android users take forever to adopt that latest software releases

- Android users are a bunch of cheap bastards who rarely pay for apps, and pirate shit!

Hence, me saying Android is a mess ;)

So your beef is with android users getting shit free not android  Well I see where you're coming from you need apple to win. I'll stay in my cheap bastard lane.

In my experience.. android 4.0 is smooth as fuck.

You have to test for mad things but you get a broader audience.

ANDROID doesn't take forever to adopt to anything. Manufacturers and carriers do. Get a NEXUS.

People steal whenever they can. Bgol used to be pirates paradise dude.
Thats bullshit.

Comments like yours confuse me.

Apple has increased their US marketshare to 43% in the past year with no new phone on the market. They also have about 700 MILLION iOS devices out there, so what in the blue hell are you talking about

Apple doesnt need Google to sell any of it's products. And Google would be just fine selling it's services without Apple in the picture.

But Google not having 700 Million+ devices using their services is A LOT of $ they'd be missing out on.

Just sayin

Google Android activations to total 900 million this year

The hell are you talking about? None of this makes any sense.
1 - There is nothing wrong with the stock UI. You dont like it, get a different launcher. Is that option available with Apple?

2 - What app have you had to perform these tests on?

3 - How do users take forever? What do you even mean by that?

4 - So you know every android user? How do you know people rarely pay for the apps? So people who download movies and music are the same as well?

The Android user base typically does not pay for apps. Whether it be through piracy, or unwillingness to pay. Thats a problem, especially when the Android user base is waaaay bigger than the iOS, yet iOS makes more money.

You couple that with the time/cost of developing for the different screen sizes, cpu, gpu's, etc.. Anybody can see this is not a good thing...

Its an improvement, but are you comparing it to iOS or just to Android 3.X? Because iOS has been winning in that category since version 1.0, and still is.

Thats true. But that broader audience doesnt pay for your apps. If I was just putting out a free app, and planned to make money off advertising, Android would be worth it. But if I was selling an app, Android would come only after I was successful on iOS. Thats typically the case for most developers.

ANDROID doesn't take forever to adopt to anything. Manufacturers and carriers do. Get a NEXUS.

Regardless of the cause, if a large portion of your users are running software from 2 to 3 years ago, thats a HUGE problem. It limits development or makes it more costly (since I cant leave out the MILLIONS of people on older hardware), and it also leaves the platform open to security risks and viruses.

People dont steal if they can afford it, and if purchasing it is easier and more convenient than stealing. But that wasnt really my point. If I create an app that I want to sell, theres less of a chance of it being successful on Android than iOS simply because Android users "steal whenever they can"... Just sayin

I didnt say anything was wrong with the stock UI. Just that it feels clunky (like it was designed by engineers). One of the reasons as to why, is because of how the core OS handles graphics (an Android engineer explained this a while back)

SlashGear
why Android will never be as fluid as iOS

As far as changing the OS to fit your preference.. I think a lot of you underestimate the vast number of non-technical people using these devices. The vast majority of people dont know to change the launcher, what the recents menu is for, or even how to update the OS. Which then delves into the user base being fragmented by different hardware, software versions, etc. etc.

PS: And if you jailbreak you iOS device, it becomes just as customizable as Android

2 - What app have you had to perform these tests on?

Apps that I'm working on myself, and apps/mobile websites that I've worked on for clients. It's a pain in the ass dude, trust me. The image below is an example what device testing for Android looks like... But depending on what youre developing it could be twice this much, and it sucks even more if you're developing on your own and dont have the resources to buy all these devices (there are services out there that let you rent Android devices for testing as a result of this issue).

3 - How do users take forever? What do you even mean by that?

For many reasons there are Android devices still out there running Gingerbread. Even if its only like 5%, that 5% is like 50 million people. And lets say you upgrade your phone every 2 years when your contract expires (like most people), Google usually release 3 or 4 Android updates within that timespan, and a lot of phones cant upgrade (hardware doesnt support, carrier doesnt allow it, etc.)

4 - So you know every android user? How do you know people rarely pay for the apps? So people who download movies and music are the same as well?

The whole "cheap bastard" thing was me being funny, so I hope you didnt take offense (that wasnt my intention). But the overall reluctance of Android users buying apps is factual, and statistically accurate. It's gotten A LITTLE better over the past year, but its totally ridiculous that developers make WAAAY more money on iOS than Android, when Android has more than twice as many devices out there. Here are some articles in regards to this.
