We(Our) young women are being taught that the laws don't apply to them in the exact same fashion as they do for everyone else, if at all. A few of them get a rude awakening (the video where the black woman gets tased for not complying with the officer's orders while sitting in her SUV) but the message is usually missed on our "Bratz minded", "too cute to be a pornstar, but I can dress like one and the religious Right can't say a damn thing" young ladies.
I sympathize with the fact that the way that the law treats civilians based on the criteria of gender is a double standard in itself.
With the exception of the elderly or severely disabled, detainment and the use of force should be determined on the threat levels that are already stated in most Police officers SOP, regardless of gender. I live in Houston, and the law enforcement can be just as brutal, if not worse here. But this I have seen; while working(trustee) at the HPD Mykawa Compound, an Asian girl (maybe 18)who had been detained went berserk in the booking area and commenced to laying the beatdown on four jailers and three of HPD's Finest(the first three officers were overcome). They had to hogtie her and put her in a rubber room. She wasn't much larger than this young lady.

To say the cop was wrong and to absolve the "innocent girl" from any wrong doing is very stupid. She allegedly broke a rule and the worst of all, RESISTED ARREST. All bets are off once you do that.
Police brutality is rampant, and not just the white cops, not by a long shot, though in the South I give a slight edge to the "good ol boys" in the PD Brutality.

1. Was it concern about the minor being out late
2. Was it that he felt the need to protect her from would be pedophiles

It really doesn't matter what she was being "arrested" for. Fact is that she was being detained by a police officer and was required to comply. Period. If there was an improper arrest then they could've sorted it out later. You have NO option to resist. It's just plain dumb (like you).

As to your points, they are not relavent. The cop saw what he assumed to be was a minor breaking curfew (1:30am?). Whether he was concerned for her well being is secondary at this point because she did not appear to be in danger, she was however breaking the law.
He stopped her to investigate, as he should have done, one thing led to another, and here we are.
You see, I'm not trying to get caught up in the details of what his mindset was when he stopped her, because he was doing his job. She was wrong and continued to make the situation worse.
And again, I don't agree with the punch, but I can't really fault him for it. He was patient up to this point, and tried not to hurt her.
