Lesson learned; Don't bite cops.
I have mixed feelings towards the whole thing. I was pissed because of her naivety towards her situation. At 15, you should be old enough to know NOT to resist arrest. You should also be old enough to know not to BITE a cop who is trying to arrest you.
However, I have known plenty of kids who have bitten, spit, and thrown fire crackers at cops, all of whom are white and have NEVER been punched in the face.
I believe this situation was handled poorly, and the cop shouldn't get any slock...of course WE can relate to the cop hitting the girl, because we don't have special training in handling these situations.
The Pepper spray should have come out to play WAY before that fist did.

After watching the whole video, I see a cop trying to restrain a rebellious teen. She broke curfew and was under arrest. She resisted after repeated warnings. He told her that he did not want to use force, which explains why it was difficult to cuff her. Can you imagine the outrage if he had forced her arms back enough to really hurt her?
The big cop, small girl argument does not fly with me. Restraining a 15 year old girl is one thing, but just try cuffing her without forcing a knee in her back. On video, it will look like an all out fight, which would be harder for the cop to justify. Not to mention any bruises she would have proudly displayed.
She said "I'm sorry sir, I didn't do anything". Then she bites him. The punch was a reflex action as it happened so quickly. I had no problem with her being spayed. The cop was smart enough to keep the action on camera so he has evidence in his favor.

Let me play devils advocate, if that was a black officer would there be this amount of a response? You can use whatever means to effect an arrest, in this instance that punch was reactionary although wrong Officers are human and make mistakes like this EVERYDAY. Trust what you learn in the academy is not applied when your on the streets. What you learned goes out the window and your real training comes from being in the field.

Honestly depending on what department he works for and if its a VERY political department he may well have been suspended without pay. Even if he was found like guilty in a criminal trail, every major police department has their own review board and 99% of the time they will find you guilty and eventually you get fired.
So yes that black officer would not have had a job when it was all said and done.
If they played the whole tape of her resisting like a fool, and the biting, the verdict would be the same, though most people wouldn't give a shit either way, same as with this. No one got killed or seriously hurt (and the kid turned out to be a thief anyway so the officer was ultimately right in detaining her, and her dumb resistance was explained).
Much worse, and far less justified, police shit happens everyday. This only seems "shocking" because it was taped, but it was actually a mild response by a lone cop in a difficiult situation.
