What is your Praying habit(s)?

It is crazy how taking advanced courses in the Humanities focuses on world religions. One particular focus is on the Western canon, in which I just finished a lengthy paper on (70 pages). The main subject focused on higher beings from different religions. I do not talk nor debate about such, but I do want to ask one question for the BGOL members:

If you want to supply your religious beliefs you can do so, but it is not required, for such confessions sometimes causes problems.

Here we go:

How many times a day do you pray? Do you find yourself constantly praying throughout the day? Are there certain times you pray, but never think about prayer until that particular time?

i used to pray 2 times a day with prostrations in the morning and night but i stopped...its just what i needed at that particular time

now i say a protective prayer before i start my day, do Zikr and pray throughout the day when needed...i went in the thread today on here where 2 dudes had lost family members so i did 33x zikr and prayed for both of them..things might start getting crazy in the neighborhood so i might pray for that...whenever i feel its needed i dont really like to designate times...just go with the flow

Before I head to work and when I go to bed primarily. I ask for protection for myself, my family, my friends, and their friends and family, as well as offering thanks.

I also pray when I see people in bad situations, either in person, on TV, or on the web.

About the same as me. Sometimes I find myself in constant prayer. Well I don't know if you would call it that (constant prayer), rather a lengthy conversation.

I tend to begin my day with a prayer in the car or prostrating before leaving my home and then I pray throughout the day as the Creator moves me, or based on my personal mood/situation. I have dropped back from praying 4-5x a day based on my daily schedule.

Co-sign on content and situation.

I am glad you mentioned the latter portion of your reply. Do you think external material forces would actually force you to cut back or would you say it was really up to you to cut back. I came to the realization that it really wasn't external, but me. I resumed the norm after that enlightenment.

i see few actually bothered to respond to this thread...

figured about as much.

if you study long enough you will likely find that prayer is a frivolous activity that has resulted from humans not understanding how reality actually works...

prayers are no different than wishes...

Interesting take, Buttnaked. I have never did any in-depth study on the subject, but your reply does deserve a look at. Thanks.

This may sound funny to some, but it happens all the time. Thanks, MrAvon_Streetz.

Honestly, I would say that it's a little of both. Unfortunately, the society and culture that you live in makes demands on your time. I just try to do the best that I can in the moment for the future.

the thing is people need to put more Energy behind their prayers
you can do this by using the Breath

here's a 1 piece to the puzzle

i was being a sarcastic ass hole when i wrote it but to be honest this is the only time some people pray

But me i usually pray sunday morning and night since i dont go to church. I also read a lil of the bible on sundays i kinda have my own lil church thing going. I believe u can have your own relationship with god and not necessarily have to go to church.

just my 2 cent

I meditate instead of pray. Relaxation and clarity of mind is more important to me. When I was growing up, my grandmother had me scared to eat before i pray, scared to go to sleep before I went to bed, otherwise I wouldn't wake up. I generally got ass whippings for asking questions she couldn't answer or if I disobeyed the word. One night I decided to eat without praying, I didn't choke to death or get poisoned, I went to bed without prying, I woke up. Since then, I gradually discovered relaxation and clarity of mind allowed me to make better objective decisions as opposed to praying. If prayer helps your state of mind or allows you to obtain the clarity of mind you desire, then more power to you. I don't judge

Before I fly.
Even though I'm non religious now, I still do it.
I basically just hope everyone involved in the flight is focused and aware while doing their job.

Good deal here, for in some Eastern religions (and Western), meditation is the key. Thanks Cheyisrameyah.

I pray before, during, and after the flight. My mind is always thinking some bad will happen on flights. Thanks, CANTBANDASTROKEMAN.

Praying before I eat. :smh: Until I realized what did my meal pray for?

When I did pray it was out of weakness. Anytime something went wrong I would pray. Anytime I wanted something to go good I would pray. That is what prayer meant to me when I still needed it for a crutch. Prayer was something I did when I couldn't solve a problem by my own means. At the time it was important. I had to grow out of it.

Now I won't even be in the room when people say grace over a once living being. What about it's prayers?

I stopped traditional Prayer once I chose Panentheism. Since everything i do then is technically communion with the Most High, why should i take time out to pray, say grace, etc?

I do meditate at times but thats not worship. I don't ask for anything or give thanks for anything. I just relax and reflect.

It's funny you posted this, because I don't find myself praying (in the sense of bowing my head and saying Amen) but I find myself talking to God all the time. If I'm driving or at work and something crosses my mind, I just talk to him.

Yesterday, was the first time in a long time, I actually got on my knees and prayed, and even then it was because I needed strength and some serious guidance to really deal with a situation I've been putting off for the longest.

Story of my younger years!

Very insightful, Gene cisco. Thanks!

Do you think regular conversations are not as related to the concept of prayer as you see it?

When I was studying philosophy, Panentheism was included. Thanks for the reply, Storm.
