Rachel Bilson apologizes to Tate Donovan for her behavior when he directed The O.C.

So, about that time Donovan said the younger actors on the show had developed "bad attitudes"...
By Jolie Lash
May 25, 2021 at 06:48 PM EDT

Rachel Bilson is clearing the air.
The actress, who played Summer Roberts on the WB's long-running drama The O.C., made sure to let her former costar-turned-director Tate Donovan know that she is sorry if her on-set behavior back in the day caused him unnecessary drama.
"But, I thought you were so wonderful, and such a wonderful director and... [an] amazing human and all of it, so if I ever added to any of the a-----ness, I want to apologize on record," Bilson told Donovan, who appeared as a guest on the newest edition of her podcast with Melinda ClarkeWelcome to the O.C., bitches.
The apology came up after Donovan recounted a tale from his own past, when he turned down an appearance on the hit '80s action/crime series Magnum, P.I., a story that Bilson said brought up "something pretty poignant" for her, going on to mention his time behind the lens in season 3.

"You went on to direct us on The O.C., which we can talk about more, and I know some of us kids were little a--holes," she said. "And I think that that speaks to that whole unaware, young, youthful, ignorant — just idiots, you know what I mean? And I hope I wasn't as bad as it's come off … You know, you get influenced, I'd say, by your surroundings."

"Yeah, you can't help but believe all the sort of hype. Everyone gets caught up in it, especially when you're young," he said, also adding that Bilson was actually "a total sweetheart to work with."

Bilson's comments appear to be in reference to what Donovan told Vulture in 2013 about some of The O.C. stars not being fun to direct.
"By the time I started to direct, the kids on the show had developed a really bad attitude," he previously told the publication. "They just didn't want to be doing the show anymore. It was pretty tough; they were very tough to work with. The adults were all fantastic, total pros. But you know how it is with young actors — and I know because I was one of them once. When you achieve a certain amount of success, you want to be doing something else."
During his time on Bilson and Clarke's podcast, Donovan shared an amusing recollection of a comment the younger actress made when he was directing — a remark he still recalls today.
"So, our first scene together, you were in Seth's house and you were coming down to the pool to talk to Ryan or something like that. You did the scene, and it was great. You were like, for a director you would make every scene totally work, like from the first time. You're an amazing actress. … At the time, I called you 'the cute machine,'" he said.
Donovan recalled that Bilson did a take of the scene, and although he was pleased with it, he wanted to give her a slight note on her performance.
"So, I just wanted to put something in your mind. And I said … 'Just so you know, that was great. Just so know, you've just come from Seth's room, and you've had a huge argument, in that thing, and you're like, breaking up. And so, I want to see that argument in you … You know that right? You know that you had an argument with Seth?'" Donovan continued. "I didn't want to step on toes. I didn't want to insult you by reminding you of that."
It was at that point that Bilson chimed in, "I think I know where this is going."
As Donovan carried on, he revealed Bilson had an unusual reply -- one he calls one of the "best quotes" he's heard from an actress in his life.
"You go, 'Tate, I don't read scripts, I smoke pot,'" he said to laughs from the actresses and podcasters.
Bilson has called revisiting The O.C. for the podcast "trippy and a little insane." She and Clarke are five episodes into their Tuesday-dropping rewatch podcast, so there's still time to catch up.

Interesting. Seems like a handful (or more) stars are revisiting their old series for rewatch podcasts these days. The 2 women from The Office and some other people came to mind respectively.

Been checking out some of the A&E documentaries on wrestling. Saw the Stone Cold one in recent weeks, and checked out the Shawn Michaels one this AM. Have the DVR set for the Ultimate Warrior one. Plenty informative. Looks like the Michaels one covered from the mid-80s to Aug. 2020 or so. Enjoyed seeing him behind the scenes with the younger talent at NXT ... and him noting (paraphrased) - "Wrestling may have almost killed me, but it's the thing that saved me ..."

Also checked out the one on the Ultimate Warrior ... and the DVR's set to record the Macho Man Savage one soon ...

‘Debris’ Canceled After One Season at NBC (EXCLUSIVE)

debris.jpg

Debris” has been canceled after one season at NBC, Variety has learned.

The news comes shortly after the first season finale, which aired on May 24. In the series, when wreckage from a destroyed alien spacecraft scatters across the Western Hemisphere, it soon becomes apparent the pieces are messing with the laws of physics, changing lives in ways we can’t comprehend. Two agents (Jonathan Tucker, Riann Steele) from different continents, and different mindsets, are tasked to work together to recover the debris, whose mysteries humankind is not quite ready for.

The series also starred Norbert Leo Butz and Scroobius Pip. J.H. Wyman created the series and served as executive producer and showrunner via Frequency Films. Jason Hoffs, Jeff Vlaming and Samantha Corbin-Miller also executive produced. Legendary Television produced in association with Universal Television.

“Debris” failed to get off to a great start in the ratings and never found its footing. The series is averaging a 0.7 rating in adults 18-49 and just under 5 million viewers per episode in the Nielsen Live+7 numbers season to date.

With the cancellation, the NBC shows still awaiting word on new seasons are “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” “Good Girls,” and “Manifest.”

NBC had renewed a good number of its scripted shows going into upfronts. The network has already renewed the following shows: “The Blacklist,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago Med,” “Chicago P.D.,” “Kenan,” “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “Mr. Mayor,” “New Amsterdam,” “Transplant,” and “Young Rock.” It was previously announced that “This Is Us” will end with its sixth season, while “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” is set to end with its upcoming eighth season this summer.

They cancel Debris but keep these stupid talent shows, reality shows on for years.

It shows the level of ignorance of this country and what interests them.

Anything that involves using your brain does not interest majority of Americans.

Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke react to Mischa Barton comments about her time on The O.C.

They called some remarks "perplexing," but also looked back from a 2021 perspective.
By Jolie Lash
June 01, 2021 at 06:54 PM EDT

Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke have reacted to their former castmate Mischa Barton's recent account of her difficult time on The O.C.
On the latest installment of their podcast Welcome to the OC, Bitches!, the actresses discussed Barton's latest interview with E! News, in which the star said there were some folks who "were very mean" to her on the set of the teen drama and noted that she felt some relief following her character Marissa Cooper's death scene. (Bilson and Clarke's discussion came in a preview for an upcoming conversation with fellow podcaster Danny Pellegrino.)

Clarke, who played Marissa's mother, Julie Cooper, expressed an understanding of how pressure impacted her younger costars. (Barton was 17 when she began playing Marissa.)
"The one thing going into this podcast — and Rachel and I discussed this — I can tell you about my experience with total honesty, and transparency, and cannot speak for somebody else's experience. And, we have touched on this, Rachel, but someone who's 16, 17, 18 — that amount of hours of work, pressure, at such a young age — at best you're exhausted, and at worst, it's overwhelming and chaotic," Clarke said. "So it kind of breaks my heart a little to know that — we knew there's a lot of pressure on her, but if it was really that bad of an experience, that's not right for any young person."
CREDIT: DONATO SARDELLA/WIREIMAGE
But Clarke noted that some of Barton's comments confused her. "Some of the comments were very perplexing to me," she said, "so I don't know, I don't know what the truth is about that, but I do know that yes, this was an enormous amount of pressure — for everybody."

Bilson quickly chimed in, addressing Barton's remarks about her — that she was made a series regular later on.
"The one thing that I can say is like, in one of her first comments she says that I was added last-minute after the first season, which is actually completely false and not what happened," she said. "So it starting out that way, I was like, 'Well, that's misinformation. Where are we going with this? And what is she trying to say?' Which I would actually like to talk to her and find out what her experience was from her perspective because I saw things a little differently."
Clarke also approached Barton's comments from a 2021 perspective, looking back at the aughts.
"We all do know that… in the early 2000s, the scrutiny of the young ladies going out, and the Nicole Richies, and the Parises, and the Lindsays, and the Mischas — there was a lot of attention," she said. "And just by being out there, somehow it got turned against them."
She went on to offer Barton the opportunity to come on their O.C. podcast and address more of how she felt at the time. "I think it's something that we're all becoming aware of, and it's important for us to learn," Clarke said.
"Hollywood is notorious for doing 18-, 20-hour days and… it's not for the faint of heart, let's put it that way" she added. "But being that young, I do think it can be an additional stress."
When Pellegrino brought up Barton's comments about experiencing meanness from some of the men on set, Bilson said she didn't see that type of behavior.
"I don't know who she's referring to, because I didn't personally witness any of that," she said.
Bilson added that she thought Barton's interview had "mixed messages. "As their chat on the subject wrapped up, Clarke again expressed sympathy over the kind of pressures undoubtedly thrust upon Barton at the time, including paparazzi attention and having to turn down big-screen offers due to TV commitments (something Tate Donovan talked about on another of the O.C. podcasts). "What do you do with all of that?" she asked.

High On The Hog turned out to be an excellent docuseries about African/American contribution to the cuisine of America.

It starts out exploring the cuisine of Benin and how it carried over into the Americas with us into the Carolinas. The series explores our impact on what Americans eat from coast to coast and it's not simply "Soul Food" as what immediately comes to mind.

Stephen Satterfield is a black food critic and former sommelier who starts in Benin, looking at where some of the staples of Af-American foods originate from. He then brings it home to the rice fields of S. Carolina, to Texas barbeques, to the enslaved chefs of Washington and Jefferson who were practically celebrity chefs in their day but got NO credit.

Satterfield samples from old recipes from the past made by a number of chefs and foodies who have rediscovered those meals and are bringing attention back to our contributions to the foods that we still eat today but are not credited with.
Spoiler Alert!:
I watched the four episodes twice overnight and I promise you that it prompted my ass to get up, go to the kitchen and look into a cold oven in search of some of those dishes. I got hongry dan a mug.

Checked out the finale for The Challenge - All Stars. Good to see the winner take home the 500k grand prize. They are really level-headed and mature. Good win for them and their family.

Thought the Mare of Easttown finale was solid. What really worked well for the show was that they had a good number of characters, so the story could be layered without being overly complex. Good dramatic acting and tension. Some twists and turns along the way. It was a good watch throughout. It was sort of in that sweet spot too of NOT being too short or too long a run. 7 episodes was enough time for them to tell the story as a limited series.
