***Tripster's 2008 Investments (Ongoing thread)***

BIDU is becoming so predictable its almost scary. I buy at 230s and sell at 260s. Closed at 272 today. Then I go short back down....stir...and repeat.

Earnings coming up in the next 3 weeks, so this pattern may continue until then. We'll see. I'm got some AAPL @ 122, so its looking nice. Getting MERKED with PAL, but I'm holding. TGB is still a staple with me (very long term stock for me).

Watch GOAM (GoAmerica). I know telecoms suck right now, but I have a feeling that they may be getting bought soon. They provide communication devices for the deaf/hard of hearing. Usually trades between $4 and 8. Sitting at 6 right now. I'm grabbing a little because I have a hunch.

Let's Get It!

Thats what up! :yes:I'm been saying that shit about these market conditions for a minute, these conditions makes stocks so predictable. Its a must that any trader/investor study charts.

Heads up for tomorrow earnings

--------------------------------------
April 2, 2008

BMO: BBY , KMX , MON

AMC: RIMM

--------------------------------------

My trade list for tomorrow is RIMM, MON, MOS, & AMZN!

:DSo much damn green on my screen. Days high being broke almost every minute on mostly all of the boards picks. Anyone taking this as an opportunity to get out of Etrade? Im still holding. But should I take profits:confused: Its easier on my brain when its dropping than when it goes up. Thats weird...

Bidu at 287 right now. Sold it 300 shares ( $16,200 profit). Bought some more short at 285 (200 shares), will buy to cover at $240 ($9000 profit). I love weeks like this.

I got out for a minute, last time it hit 5.50. If you're satisfied with your profits, take some off the top, and hold on. Or just say screw it, and quit while you are ahead. I'd probably sell. I'm riding this AAPL train for a minute. And day trading BIDU. The rest are holds for me until May/June.

Thanks for the input Trip.

Got some TITN at 17.50. Watching the rest of the picks. Thanks.

Good pick up,,,hold thru earnings, whenever they announce over the next 2-3 weeks....GEOI moving up nicely +5% at $16.00, chart looks like a sure shot winner volume is paltry but...who needs heavy volume,,just heavy appreciation..

While RIMM is down there is incredibale action & strength going on into tommorows earnigns on RIMM 120 calls....should be interesting when they release...

Tip..you are doing well on those BIDu plays...any action on ISRG???

ISRG...I'll take a look at it. Looks nice and volatile (just the way I like it). Seems to trend well with BIDU. What do you see it doing going forward?

Advice taken! I'll get back in if you see opportune timing:yes:
Thanks!

ISRG is a big mover, they have an earnings call set up for 4/17 & alot can happen before (wither a drive up or a takedown) but the street loves the co as they have no competition within thier space. Its a tough option play as the prices are on the high side for the most part....from the looks of the action of late they seem to want to push it to 375..but who knows,,if you like ISRG, you'll like FSLR as well...

HOGS & GEOI are two great companies, HOGS is a CHinese co that is in the pork distribution biz,,their earnings are growing & they are opening some eyes as a good small cap investment,,,

Anybody watching MF Global Ltd.? (MF). They got hit pretty hard after the Bear Stearns collapse, but they keep making press releases stating that their still very liquid. The stock fell below $5 when the BSC news first hit, but it's now back up to 9.36. It was originally trading in the $30 range then the $17-18 range. I know it's a financial stock and those are pretty risky these days, but does anyone else think they are a safe bet?

Imma' ask again...Is anybody else watching MF Global (MF)? The stock closed up 14.47% at $11.30, but surged as high as 30% this afternoon due to speculation about a takeover.( This thing mirrored BSC when the buyout news first dropped but has been looming around $10 a share +/- $0.50 until today. I know cats are watching TMA because of its low price (and I am too), but I think this one is worth a look especially because they--supposedly-- don't have any liquidity problems.

It'll probably retreat back to the $10 range in the short term though...

Props to y'all cats who held out on AAPL at $120-$130. Hold on to that baby, because rumors are swirling about a new iPhone coming out this year.

popozudalvr and other knowledgable heads....

What are some good links/places to read more about how a company is performing, and going to perform. I'd like to research a few companies on my own, but only seem to get to the surface, cant really figure out how to dig deeper and get into whats really going on with the company.

And I want to thank everyone who's posting up some hot finds, I just started with a few g's, most of it long term Visa, but im looking at putting another few g's into short term (2-6 month) I wouldnt have the knowledge I have now without yall.

For an interesting read on Monsanto Company (MON, up 5.17% after earnings announcement) check out this article in Vanity Fair. It's long, but you'll get a good understanding of why this company is doing soooo well now--and how evil they might be as a corporation.
http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2008/05/monsanto200805

HHAaa,,MONSANTO...they have been the pilar of evil for many years, take it back to agent orange, these dudes been aletering & messin people up for generations....BUT shit..they are rakin $$ like nuttin on them gentically enhanced corn & seeds...I'm read that when i get a chance. Morality, unfortunaly is not something most companies strive for...

I think, no research should be company focused, it should be industry focused first, the first thing you do is find out about the industry (the space if you will) that the company operates in, find out what are the factors both good and bad affecting & effecting all players in the space, once you can decipher if the industry is a good one to be in or bad one (if you're short) then you proceed onto the companies..I tend to look for things like growing revenues(not necessarily profitability) but good consecutive Q over Q growth rates in revenues, i will suggest one of the first place you go is to the company website or Edgar & pull filings, look at performance/share structure/how the company deals w/ cash(if they have any) do they invest back in the co or pay out a div/ to find good small cap co's before they become bigger is a task & it takes quite a bit of time with research, you have to know the background...with some picks that we've dropped here like PAL & SWC we've given the backdrop story, as well as the AGs (which MOS btw KILLED the street today they were expecting .95, & MOS came in w/ 1.17 for 3Q..PHENOMINAL...stock is up $9.oo in premkts, taking ALL AGs higher),...study the backdrop first..!! that;'s the best advice i can say, research is to me the best part of this game, finding a 50m market cap co, that blossoms into a 500M...those are true winners.......V is btw a good investing startpoint, I'm not sure how well it will perform though,,I cant see it being a 100% return stock for a few years...but to some that is worth the wait...

I got 15% it executed @ 6.72 early today I bought in a lil early @ 5.79 it dipped to like 5.50. this time on coinz, I love the look of a few of the calls you guys are looking at but those stock prices are out of range for me and a few other guys out here, that delata call would have been nice though. I'm just trying to get 50 10% trades hehe (add that up atarting @ $1000) I guess i never looked at it from that standpoint i was always trying to make moves like that bidu 16k shiiits CRAZY! I still need to know how the shorts and such work but shiiit thats 5 times now on coinz with 10% min each time i sold some EEM, FXI and ICF that peaked positive so i can focus more on coinz and other LOWER PRICED hint hint) movers like it.

NIce flips bro...COINz & COINw are great flips (COINw is better though),,,ok so you're looking for some nice low end/priced plays..well...u got TGB, PAL,PAL+(warrant, 2.5 now) HOGS($10-11),
the strategy you got is good man 10% & out, you need to cop 1 option (a put or a call on something, that is relatively reasonable,,,maybe some RIMM calls 125s for May)& get a big hit & boost the account,,,you in the growth phase so minimize losses & try to keep building...soon u can cop that 16G like Tip on BIDU....look at FSLR today...+$20,crazy stock..

Got some TITN at 17.50. Watching the rest of the picks. Thanks.

I'm gonna give an acessment of TITN,,,the company is a great growing company, the stock however, I see is heavily manipulated to the downside, there is a good amount of fund buying goin on in the stock, but it refuses to pace along with other AGs, it is an AG stock but does not move w/ its peers, it is an annoyance & the thin float only helps the manipulation to occur, the volume being thin causes the price to spike & plummet. That being said, I think it is adviseable to wait to see thier earings & see then where the price stands, if volume returns to the stock it will be interesting to see if it can hold a gain, remeber it was 22 on that 1m volume day, then slipped to 17, and is now about 18.5.
You'd like to see it trend w/ peers, when it does'nt you got to wonder what is up....it is great if you can aquire 1k share & get the $1.00 movements/the spreads do allow for that..I'm going to see it thru earings but feel there are better peer plays if it continues this pattern....still...a good company..so if you're long don't bother baout the interim movements, I'm sure by yrs end TITN will be a big winner..

First thanks for the reply and suggestions, im checking them out now for next week but playa help me understand why i would chase a bidu, fslr or any of those 200+ joints when they still only move 10% just like coinz in the 6.00 range?

you're right, and when I was first in the game I thought along the same lines, asking, why chase 10% on a big dawg when you can get it on a small pup. It turns out, you chase volatilitily anywhere you can find it, with those high price stocks, the better plays are the options as the daily swings allow you to bracket a straddle[a call to the higher end,& put to the lower end]-in a day they both likely swing to a profit, COINW/Z is a perfect low price/high volatility issue, as is PAL+. In the end all you looking for are movers, stocks/options/warrants anthing that has action. Once you can get your targets you good be it on a $200 stock or a $5 one. I've been in the volatile issues and havent been looking for those low cap GEMS...I'll have to see what I can pull up..HOGS is one/GENC another.

WOOOOW at dinner last night i told the wife the only reason I could think of is maybe those are better options plays and since i dont know much about those yet I'm sticking with the lil guys. AHHHHH SHIT i might be dangerous after i finish my dvds on options.

Since you were looking for an inexpensive stock I thought of CAGC.OB (Bulletin Board Stock, but reputable co w/ earnings) It tends to trend with AGs, when they move for the most part it mimics it on a scale, its always cheap, couple bucks or so, popped a chart in here to show you, COIN supprisingly has trumped all the top AGs..It's worth a pickup on a drop back, as AGs move it'll move..

Well the big boys are not good stocks really, I mean to get a strong hold on the shares you got to have heavy duckets to drop, who can afford shares of BIDU & ISRG in bountiful lots...so the options play better..plus the volatility really protects you when you buy the straddle..options are interesting, BUT if & when you go in you are a trader, not an investor, no one invests in options, few day holds & quick exits...u stay too long they burn you..

so far the cheapies we've put up are PAL/TGB/HOGS/GEOI/TITN/CAGC.OB/COINW/z/COIN/ULTR*take a look at that one.

Im new but I must say, starters need to jump on that ING Sharebuilder. Go to automatic investment and if you're really unsure about shit, let them build you a profile.

Since february testing it out with $75 dollars monthly, i've so far made $37 dollars. Is it a lot, not but I'm not in it heavy either and now I'll feel a lil more comfortable adding more money monthly.

im on it pop, ill let you know what I see on these a buddy said he has been waiting on SGN to do its things since last year. Looking at it it appears to do my 10% move almost daily. Any thoughts on it?

I would appreciate any feedback from the fam. I already had received some good information. I think the folks on this thread will really be able to help out with good feedback.

I should be uploading this weeks' Weekend Wrap Up report in about an hour.

Also, does anybody have a loophole/workaround for youtube's 10 minute rule.

Thanks again,

Oh this week, watch for the markets to finally break higher above the downtrend channel. For the DOW, we need to get above 12700 or 12750 otherwise, we are back to the bottom of the channel. This week also kicks off the new earnings season with Alcoa after the close. We have FOMC minutes on Tuesday and a lot of Retail Same Stores Data to come out. Last week retail looked strong but the sector is rolling over perhaps in anticipation of bad #'s. JCPenny's already put out lower forecast. I will be watching Basic Materials, Coal, Biotech, Internet, Software, Natural Gas, and Oil services sectors this week for upside. The only sector I am looking at the downside will be Retail. Check the video for more of my thoughts. Thanks for the feedback.

SGN looks like it's had people waiting close to 10 years for it to do something,,,,.........and....they're still waiting..it looks like a terrible company thats scaving off delisting on the AMEX,,they had to get thier market cap above 50M, or else face delisting, so that is why the stock is at 1.oo, can't see much reason to waste a dollar there with so many other "live" opportunities around...very weak stock...good luck if you get in on that...

whats your favorite investors/traders webblog?

Hmm,,actually I have none, tend to formualte more on research & background study rather than reading blogs. With so many opinions,,,,truth is you got to get to a point where you're formulating a standpoint on what YOU as the individual wants to do. Even a board like this is just backdrop for potential action, the hope is more take the effort to learn the tactics & trends & use them to make profits..

my buddy has been waiting on it forever too . Another newbie liked zagg but after reading their information on their website he isnt has excited about them as he was before. I like the volitility i see on them but again im not the pro here. Well this week my negative performers and other sideways stuff comes in for another play on coinz/w ill look at the other suggestions a well.

Is there a way to work with the settling funds deals? I hate to get caught in a buy and being stuck just because funds havent "settled"? any tips other than play 50% of my funds in at a time?
