The standard rate at Black barbershops is now $35-$40

My barbershop just went up to $25 for a standard haircut.
I always tip $5 on top of the service, but I can't do it anymore.
There's just no way to justify paying $30 for a taper fade.
I can't believe it costs this much to get a haircut now. :smh:

Since I don't know how to cut my own shit, I'd been looking for alternatives.
So a friend of mine told me he goes to the barber college near his house to get his haircuts for $5.
He said they give fire ass haircuts and most of the students have been cutting hair for years, but just going to school to do it LEGALLY.
So I took his advice and went to one too.
The haircut I got was actually better than my "go-to" barber for the last five years.
Not to mention I saved $20.
No talking on the cell phone, random arguments, smoke breaks or walking next door to the store.
I was in and out.
I'm not going to my barbershop ever again.

I stopped going about 15yrs ago. I use to go the Dominican shop, till one day my go to barber had me sitting around waiting on him for a couple of hours then didn'tshow up. I said fuck that, went and bought some clippers and cut my own hair. I haven't been to a barber since. I never fucked my hair up either.

I just paid $225 for me and my son + a $25 tip. The shop basically hits us up for $1K/month, cause we go every Friday. A little high, but he also cuts Juwon Howard, so I'm good with it. U get what you pay for.
It seems like you’re trying to flex but this just seems stupid as hell. Paying 1000 a month for haircuts for two people.
Side note

I was just in Birmingham and got a A1cut 15 bucks. Pretty sure dude was a base head but his clipper and razor game was top of the line.

that's if you got time

After moving to Memphis a few years ago the first barber I went to was the truth. But he was unreliable. I would make an appointment with him to be his first appointment. After the 4th or 5th time of him not showing up I stopped going to him. I went to three other barbers after that had inconsistent quality.

I said fuck it and started cutting my own shit. After I got good at it I can cut my hair and line up my beard in under 45 minutes. And people ask me who lines me up.

I don't know what you mean by "if you got time." By the time you drive to a barber and potentially wait you have already spent at least and hour and maybe 2. One of the shops I went to consistently had a 2-4 hour wait.

Man fuck that.

Here in Houston I pay $30 plus a $10 tip but I've had the same barber since 1993. Back then as a teenager I was paying $10 and was getting designs cut into my shit

I went to Durban and Johannesburg South Africa I was paying $3. I got a wash a massage and a facial and they put pomade in my shit after the wash. I tipped dude in Durban so much he said "my neegah" and they was begging me to help em to come to America

Voltage overseas is 240v so clippers from here sound like a chainsaw and will burn up. I always look like a homeless dude coming back from Europe

How many people learned to cut their own hair and during the pandemic and no longer goes to the shop?
I haven’t been in decades. Been doing my boys’ heads and currently teaching my oldest (13) how to do his own. Just got him some new fast feeds and t outliners… they were only $23 at Amazon yesterday

These haircut prices are outrageous:lol:

Learned to cut my hair even b4 the pandemic.. been doing it since I was 15 yrs old… 27+ yrs and counting… 10s of thousands of dollars saved… I’m basic with it.. either baldy or real low cut Caesar

I will be buying some Andis clippers. My lineup and both sons haircuts is 100. Fuck that shit
Follow up exactly 1 month… Bought me some Andis clippers whole kit from the Yangs up the street. I’ve cut my sons a total of 3 times and my own lineup and taper 3 times. I’ve saved my self $200 atleast not including a tip, gas to the east side and a piece of mind. The kit was $85 and had the guards that I needed plus the smock. I won’t be back in the shop for a while.

Took my time cutting my sons heads and went over it meticulously, brushed their waves in while cutting. These niggs are getting a crash course on economics and preservation.
