The standard rate at Black barbershops is now $35-$40

I pay $40($35 + tip). I’m in Oakland. Prices have risen, but none of the Barbers I know are balling off just cuttiin.

i disagree from my experience. In SF there all the 3-4 black barber shops per neighborhood, rent is 2-3x higher in the city than the burbs. it’s waaay more competition for customers and location, the cost of living is 2-3x higher, and the income is 2-3x higher. So idealistically the barbers in SF should be charging 120 a head, but realistically it’s settled 50-65. Where as the barbers in Hayward or Vallejo 30 min out the city charge 30-40 a head and it’s waaay less competing shops. It actually has a reverse effect of what you are thinking… but I’ve been one of the top barbers in my city my whole career so prices don’t really apply to me lol

I’m curious, why don’t more Barbers in SF branch out to suburbs? Some cities just outside the Bay only have 1 or 2 Black Barbershops.

I’ll try to keep it short. I’m a native born n raisedin HP, SF 25 year+ barber. Most of my clients and targeted clients are black. Most of my clients work in the city because the high paying jobs are in the city, so they prefer to get cut after work or on the clock, before they go home on the weekends where they stay at home in the burbs. My coworker same back ground as me, tried to open a shop in Vallejo to cater to his Vallejo Fairfield clients and gain new ones (which was hard with already established shops for their natives), after a year he closed after 2 years because he said it was more profitable to stay in the city. The over head wasalmost half of the city, but so were the profits. Bein that rent was cheap in the burbs, the cuts were too.

Hol up bruh. He charges EXTRA for the lineup? So if you only pay $45 you have a fresh cut but a raggedy hairline? That shit sounds like highway robbery.

I aint stepped in a barbershop in damn near 10 yrs (shoutout male pattern baldness), but the lineup was always a part of the haircut

Yeah but he keep it 55th...street.

yea since when is the lineup not included in a haircut and being upsold, thats some shit that would make me wanna slap the shit outa the barber for

Have you considered doing a Mobile Barber setup? You would lower overhead and could keep same price point. You might not lose clients either. Barber loyalty is powerful for us and we are already used to changes in the Barbershop experience. I am assuming you are appointment only. If they are doing a quick work break cut, you can drop em off close to work back.

You his son riding his nuts.. how did he son me when clippers cost under $100 and nigs that know how to cut their own hair actually save money by doing so? cutting hair is a service..either you can utilize it or do it yourself..just like cooking.. if a nig said he rather cook his own meals than pay mad money to eat out and a chef posted a wok and various cooking utensils would you say he son them nah he didn’t.

You not getting all the way cripsy

them 2 pack clippers u have means nothing

In your opinion
Just cause you not capable of doing something dosent mean it’s not simple to others..it is easy..so easy that people was asking me who was my barber connect during the first few months of 2020 lockdown cause my shit was always cut and on point.. when I told them I did it myself they were mad surprised..even had a few people ask me to cut their shit for a price..told them cop a clipper and go practice

i was doing house calls during the pandemic and frankly I’m not a fan of all the driving. I already have a 45-1hr commute to the city where most of my clients are based.Theres a lot of dead time between heads while traveling, opposed to a shop where i can book back to back heads non stop. I’m a very fast barber and am able to knockout 2/3 heads per hour, where as mobile , 1 per hour unless the heads were in the same location

My barber is driving a young Mercedes and charging $35 + $10 for the beard and still expects tip upfront (app appointments). I get it, everyone is out here trying to get paid and time is money but bitches don’t mind my bald head at all. I’ll see him whenever I have event or date and my beard needs to look extra crispy.

and i bet he has a closet full of designer and rents a shitty apartment smh. At the end of the day barbering is a hustle just as any entrepreneurship or self contracting career and most of us take on that mentality. When i was a young barber i did all that stupid shit. But now as a dad with 2 kids headed to college and one the way, i had to prioritize and unlearn a lot of those bad habits. And start thinking how to work smarter not harder and maximize profits without leaving the customers feeling played

You know of a good place where I can order a modified Andis clipper?
I see you got that Omnicord joint too and mine just stopped working recently and it looks like they're out of business.
