generation 2 and the WD live can decode DTS from my understanding. somebody step in if i'm wrong, but that was deciding factor in me not getting the first version media player.

I seem to be having trouble with the Root Folders i.e. USB1/USB2 i can't seem to get the icons to show for some odd reason..

Thumb Gen is a good program but it needs a select all feature..I have an Anime folder that I want to assign only ONE icon too but you just do for every individual file.. takes too long :smh:

sturmars u got way to many problems:eek:

not problems, homie.. just a big thirst for knowledge.

:lol:I got the movie folder shit down packed now..

i experiemented in every kind of way and learned that you dont even have to worry about the thumbnail size.
wdtv resizes it for you and you dont have to rename the movie posters if you using it to represent a folder..
shit looks likenetflix on my tv now

now im moving on to figuring out the video playlist..

What about the video playlist do you kno how to work that? Or is that only a feature for the LIVE version?

nah, i dont do all that. i just find the movie and watch it. no music, no pics. nothing but movies.

I feel you I dont know why they think people are super interested in playing music on their tv's like we dont have stereos. ipod. and comupters. for that..

But if this shit can shuffle videos like you can shuffle music than this product would be a greater invention than a vcr, dvd player, bluray player and SLICE BREAD.

This silvery-set top box above may look rather drab, but never fear: its next production run will sport a nice, colorful Windows 7 sticker. That's because Western Digital recently signed an agreement to make its WD TV Live HD network media players compatible with Microsoft's "Play To" feature, allowing you to push media right to your TV from a Windows Media Player 12-equipped PC. While the feature actually snuck its way into firmware revision 1.02.21 in late March, WD only just began trumpeting its inclusion today... possibly to let memories of its disastrous prior update fade. Whatever the reason, the box is not the "first network media player compatible with Windows 7" -- Denon has four recievers that predate it. Press release and an example of what 'Play To' looks like, right after the break.

some of my shits aren't labeled properly so for alot of my shit it won't find matches i.e. ava2009 = avatar

thats alot of work to rename them. the drag and drop is good enough for me. i dont even have to resize or worry about size limits

THE PROGRAM RESIZES THE IMAGE FOR YOU, U DONT hAVE TO DO NOTHING

why do u have movies with a fucked up name?

as soon as u download a movie u should rename it

and there is a size limit i think its 80kb

what's the deal with all these renaming issues for movie posters/dvd covers?

no problem here

all my movies have a coherent name

but the movie & the image has to have the same name, the program does that for you

1 PIC FOR THE WIRE
I PIC FOR 24

THAT U CAN DO YOUR SELF YEA
UNLESS U GOT HUNDREDS OF TV SHOWS

Ok so I'm still hooked on the movie poster thumbnails for my movies this shit makes the WDTV 10 tens better everybody keep asking me if i got netflix on my tv..

I decided Imma give up dowloading 1080p movies unless its sci-fi or some colorful shit like transformers, irobot, avatar, or shit like that...

Im still having trouble with getting the menus on my dvd's to play it just jumps straight intto movie skipping the menu screen and all my .ISO files have menu screens.

i dont download many isos, but press the option button your remote, scroll to the last icon (6 little dots), this is the menu option. If its grey, then there is no menu.

i also only download 1080p version of certain movies. not only sci fi, but dark movies like Book of Eli, etc. I even downloaded the 40gb version of avatar, but got rid of it. Regular dramas and comedies, i download 720p versions.

has anybody tried these custom firmwares?

http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?board=14.0

I have.
Hardware wise, I have the WDTV gen 1, 4gb thumb drive and a sans digital 4 bay sata to usb enclosure with 3-300gb maxtor hard drives

Software is, WDLX 0.5.3.2, MSheet app 2.1.1

I use the WDTV Image Grabber to create 1280x459 movie sheets and movie folders icons. It took a while to finally get the movie sheets to show up the way I wanted to but once I did, shit is lovely. Mainly because I don't have to give an overview of the movies I have on the HD's. I've had the WDTV for about 18 months and was a little hesitant to play around with the homebrews until I started to read the forums and realized that its really hard to brick one of these things. Until I came across the homebrews, I was considering upgrading but fuck that. The only drawback is I cant play DTS.

so you are saying you have a bay, with 3 internal hds in it, that connect to the bay thru sata, and you plug the bay into the wdtv via usb? brilliant. why didnt i think of this. i was about to buy another external. Fuck it, i'll just cop this and throw some internals in it when i start to run low. Good tip.

i still haven't figured out this "menu" situation with my wdtv..
cus I have a MediaMate Media player (i have this before i got my wdtv box)and it just hook it straight to my tv and play my movies. thats how i know the .ISO movies I have includes the menus cus i watch a movie every night.. but if i play those movies via wdtv box it doesnt let me access my movie menus. weird.
