Okay, I'm thinking about buying one tonight from Walmart (if they have it, it's 8:01 and best buy is about to close)

Please confirm if this is how this thing works. A simple "confirm" or "invalid" response is appreciated.

I attach the device to my computer via usb, load the movies on my computer to the device, and then attach the device to my tv?

Thank in advance.

Invalid.

You load your movies onto an external hard drive, connect the device to the tv, then connect the hard drive to the device.

finally got around to this. here are two screen shots of some of my collection.

best way to do this is: go to google, type in "movie name blu ray cover", click images, find the cover you want and click on it. drag and drop the cover to the folder. Simple as that. I dont think dimensions matter, but there probably is a limit. I just dragged the first cover i saw and they all worked good. and i didnt have to rename any images

i did this a few weeks ago after andy posted that program, it gets the dvd covers for you

also u dont need to have the movies in folders for the image to show up, the program renames the pics what ever the movie title says

What's the program name?

image sizes should be less than 500x500

what size are all your thumbnails, homie?

maybe thats my issue.. its not over 500kb but maybe it's not an acceptable size and thats why its not working for me.

cus i tried manually and i tried thumbgen

they vary. some are 450x480, 420 x500, etc.

dumb question, how are you accessing your collection? do you click on "all video" or do you go to "folders"?

Folders. I never go to all video cus I have some videos in folder and some not so i always go to Folders.

And you just put them in the movie folder and it shows up no problem? you dont have to restart the wdtv player or anything?
and you have the old version of wdtv?

Yep, I have the old WD player and an external hard drive with a folder named "Movies".

1. I turn the WD off, take the external and connect to my computer, and open up the movie folder.

2. Go to google and search for movie covers, usually medium size and under 80kb (I get the movie posters instead of the dvd covers--I like the look better).

3. Drag the cover into the movie folder and make sure it's the exact same name as the movie.

4. Reconnect the external to the WD and turn it back on.

Inside your movie folder you have individual movies in their own seperate folders right? and thats where you put the movie posters?

Movies>Bluray>Bad Boys2

some of my catagories are triple foldered like above ^

I see now.. We have ours set up differently.. Cus I have individual folders for each movie within the Movie folder.

Maybe thats why it isn't working. I got my sitcom dvdrips in folders too.

Why do you have individual folders for each movie? That shit just seems like a lot of work. I have a folder for television shows, one for movies, one for sports, and one for porn (of course, it's called "miscellaneous", lol). I do have my television shows in different folders though (one for The Wire, one for Madmen, etc.)

I put them in individual folders cus some movie files are split into two files ie: lord of the rings.avi pt.1 & pt.2 and some of the movies have .srt (subtitle files) its more organized when you put it inna folder...

but how do you view ya files all video or thru folders?

Yeah, I got a couple movies in two parts--I just try to stay away from those now since Benq started dropping those HD mkv movies (shout out to Benq ) But as long as everything has the same name (cover art, movie, and srt file), the media player will combine everything. It might be more organized to put each movie in a separate folder on the hard drive, but hell, as long as everything in my one big ass folder is in alphabetical order, it's good enough for me.

Oh, and I view my files through folders.

I even tried to stick movie posters on a flash drive with the movies.. still didn't work

I truly think its a "version" issue here..the firmware version I have for my WDTV is 1.00.01 which sounds like its the first first generation..
I can't even play DTS audio I have to convert it to AC3.

Well what the fuck do you know IT WORKED!

Major Props to you Tim and to Ben & Electric for being patient with me..
You'll have to excuse my naivete but in my defense I thought only the new versions were upgradable..
Never knew the old ones were too..

I finally got that shit though now i can play with this shit like its a new toy LOL
