I don't think Flip is going plat this time :smh: he had a good run of platinum albums though and no nigga in TX can compete with that. People should really go out and buy that Devin mayne this shit is ridiculous :smh:

It's the beginning of the end of th cd format in all genre's.
It's all about merchandise, multimedia, live shows & digital.

They're not tired of rap they're tired of the sam rappers...I hate how niggas stifle the game...MIms did surprisingly well...I didn't expect him to do more than 50,000 units...Rich Boy lost...Def Jam coulda did a better job promoting Redman...that is a solid album...and there are a lot of new fans that are unfamiliar with him...

Perhaps yall niggas never heard of DOWNLOADING. White people love and Own commercial rap. It doesn't sell because it's the most downloaded.

Why does everybody blame downloading? downloading music is nothing new. people have been downloading music since 1999 and according to wikipedia.org it reach its peeked at its highest point around 2002-2003.

I think nobody wants to pay $16 for 1 hot song on a album

so much for selling "Million saying nothing on the track". Most new rapper got to understand that you got to crawl before you walk. At least try to sell 100,000 first.

Dowloading simply brought the era of the "single" back. That format had dominated through the '50s and '60s on vinyl until albums took over for a while through the '70s and then singles on tape came around again and lasted into the '90s when CDs finally took over and really took off (peaking in sales around '00).

Now folks have gravitated back to the "single" (digitally), something they've always loved. Weekly "legal" downloads of hit singles can run from 150,000 to 250,000. Everything is cyclical. Some sort of new "album" (long-form) format will come back again (though CD sales really are still far from dead, as loads of folks, under 20 and over 40, still like having the CD hardware in their hands).

the problem is weak ass street teams dont know what the fuck they are doing...

and the artists listen to many mofo and cant make a decent decision

if u gonna put out a product u gotta really market yourself

look at akon that mofo just got big ass surge because of his apperance on american idol hell that mofo is on the grind 24/7... and he is on tour with gwen

i remember how bad boy used to drop 5 or 6 bangers... remember biggie? that mofo have the hottest debut....

i ask myself why cant mofo use mofo that know how to market their shyt?

CREAM!!!

question to the industry insider.. is BRE still around?? Am I the only mofo that missed Jack the Rapper convention that was a hell of a networking event ...

off the point anybody seen my favorite chick BOSS? lol

speaking of def jam... they done fuck up the formula... i wish uncle russell buy that mofo buy...

how the hell u gonna let a marquee artist like redman drop what might be his last album a mofo masterpiece without no fanfare???

There's a lot to be said about reading comprehension!
Dog, the site says:
In 2003, iTunes saw the popularity of legal digital downloads skyrocket. Other online websites include URGE, Napster and MSN's Music store. The sales of downloaded music has now surpassed the sales of 'physical copies' in some countries; this has been indicated in the UK where Crazy by Gnarls Barkley reached the top spot in the UK Singles Chart based on download sales alone.
which means it went up drastically in 2003, it doesn't say anything about peaking at that time! There are millions more people now legally downloading music today and as more people get familiar with computers/Ipods that number will only increase!
You better believe that with the popularity of Ipods and other MP3 players it's just easier to d/l music than it is to buy a CD and then rip it unless you are REALLY into a particular artist! I mean think about it, something like 70% of the brand new cars coming out have some sort of Ipod/MP3 player interface built in!

The White Lurker does not enjoy "mainstream" hip hop anymore. The G-Unit's and the Dipsets do nothing for the White Lurker. The White Lurker has gone the independent route the last 5-6 years but too many people are brainwashed by the 12 songs on the radio everyday into assuming that is the only hip hop out there. The White Lurker doesn't fall into that trap. The White Lurker enjoys the likes of The Coup and owns original copies of every album, as weel as the Quannum collective But I bet most of you fucks on here dont know what Im am talking about when I say Quannum..brainwashed bastards worrying about "whats hot" then whats good, The White Lurker wonders if anyone on here even knows who Brother Ali is, or Atmosphere they been steadliy moving 100k units on the independent tip for several years and dont make mindless trivial music like 95% of the shit on the radio. But y'all don't want The White Lurker to be droppin science.

are these stats correct
i seen in another thread that akon knovict with platinum already

The number listed is for the week. The cumulative total isn't included. Akon's first album sold 1.3M. The second is currently at about 1.9M. He's been featured (as lead or guest) on 6 "Top 5" singles since just last November.

Its a new day and age 132,ooo is not a flop

I thought Redman numbers was impressive being he was hardly promoted

Ringtones is where its at if u put that in ya deal u recoup alot of lost money
