Secret Service discovers hunting stand with direct sight line to Trump's Air Force One exit in Florida

Trump traveled to Florida on Friday and is spending the weekend in West Palm Beach, where he often stays at his Mar-a-Lago resort to play golf.

The president has faced multiple threats in the last two years, beginning on the campaign trail last year and continuing after he was elected to another term as president.

He faced two assassination attempts last year: once when he was targeted in a shooting during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last July and again while golfing in Florida last September.

Multiple people have fallen ill after opening a "suspicious package" delivered to the base of operations for Air Force One.

A spokesperson for Joint Base Andrews (JBA) in Maryland, near the US capital, Washington DC, said the building the package was opened in was evacuated and those taken ill were found to be in a stable condition by medical staff.

The package contained an unidentified white powder, CNN reports, citing unnamed sources familiar with an investigation into the incident.

The air base houses the US presidential plane and its support craft, and is where the president usually departs on trips.

The JBA spokesperson said the building in which the package was opened and a connecting building were evacuated "as a precaution" and a cordon established around the area.…

Trump rally gunman acted alone, FBI says — but questions about motive persist

Investigation reviewed half million digital files, 25 online accounts after Thomas Crooks opened fire

Thomas Crooks opened fire at a Trump rally last year, firing eight shots, killing a man, critically wounding two others and grazing the president’s ear, according to authorities.

Crooks, 20, killed a 50-year-old father of two named Corey Comperatore and sent David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, to the hospital with gunshot wounds, according to authorities. President Donald Trump, who was vying to return to office at the time, ducked for cover and had blood visible on the side of his face when he got back up.

While a recent New York Post op-ed called for the government to release more information on the case, it also argued that the lack of transparency has allowed conspiracy theories to swirl.

"The danger Crooks posed was visible for years in public online spaces," an unnamed source said to have uncovered more than a dozen of Crooks' accounts told the paper. "His radicalization, violent rhetoric and obsession with political violence were all documented under his real name. The threat wasn’t hidden."

Authorities told Congress they found no evidence that Crooks followed any particular ideology on his laptop, but according to the Post's source, there was a clear timeline of Crooks' changing ideology and violent rhetoric that remains to be addressed…

Man charged with shining laser pointer at Marine One with Trump aboard

CBS News
September 22, 2025

Jacob Samuel Winkler, 33, of Washington, D.C., is charged with aiming the beam of a laser pointer at an aircraft, a felony punishable by a maximum prison sentence of five years. Online court records don't list an attorney representing him.

Marine One was airborne on Saturday after departing the White House when a U.S. Secret Service patrol officer spotted Winkler walking on a sidewalk, shirtless and loudly talking to himself, the officer wrote in an affidavit. The officer said he shone a flashlight at Winkler, who allegedly retaliated by flashing a red laser beam at the officer's face...

Man accused of aiming laser at Trump helicopter acquitted in 35 minutes

Swift verdict of not guilty in case of Jacob Winkler another high-profile defeat for Jeanine Pirro, US attorney for DC

Marina Dunbar
17 Jan 2026

A man tried on a felony charge of aiming a laser at presidential helicopter Marine One while it was transporting Donald Trump was acquitted recently by a jury in Washington DC – which reached its decision in about 35 minutes Tuesday.

The swift verdict of not guilty in the case of Jacob Winkler represented another high-profile defeat for Jeanine Pirro, the former Fox News host whom Trump appointed to be the US attorney for the nation’s capital. Pirro’s office has pursued harsh penalties against individuals accused of attacking federal officers or threatening the president but has failed multiple times.

Winkler, 33, was arrested in September after a US Secret Service agent claimed to have seen him point a red laser beam toward Marine One as it flew low shortly after leaving the White House. He faced a felony count of aiming a laser at an aircraft, an offense punishable by up to five years in prison.

Pirro subsequently promised her office would prosecute Winkler “to the fullest extent of the law”.

At the conclusion of his trial Tuesday, jurors deliberated for a little more than half an hour before acquitting Winkler, according to his public defenders, Alexis Gardner and Ubong Akpan.

In a statement to HuffPost, Gardner and Akpan said the outcome highlighted “a disturbing reality”.

“In the most powerful city in the world,” the statement said, “the federal government spent scarce resources to make a felon out of a homeless man with nothing but a cat toy keychain.

“Every hour spent on this case was an hour not spent addressing real threats to our community. We need to stop policing poverty and start investing in dignity.”…

A West Virginia man is behind bars after police say he allegedly posted videos online threatening to kill supporters of President Donald Trump and ICE agents.

Troopers with the Harrison County sector of the West Virginia police received information regarding a "threats complaint" from the local county sheriff’s department on Jan. 19, according to a criminal complaint obtained by WBOY.

While investigating the claim, troopers learned that 20-year-old Cody Smith "posted videos of himself" in which he told viewers "he was going to attack and kill ICE agents" while contacting the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the complaint reportedly said.

He also allegedly threatened the DHS employee who answered his call, according to WDTV.

Authorities began looking into Smith’s online activity, and later discovered previous social media posts in which Smith allegedly made claims of violence against individuals outside of law enforcement officials.

In the videos, Smith allegedly said he intended to "murder Trump supporters and or war supporters, or service members willing to ‘bootlick,’" while also going on to threaten Trump directly, WBOY reported.

Smith was subsequently arrested and charged with making terroristic threats, according to the outlet...

Fox News: Bret Baier Tears Into Kash Patel Over Trump Assassination Attempt Details

Martin Holmes, TV Insider
Feb 4, 2026

Fox News anchor Bret Baier pressed FBI Director Kash Patel over the lack of information regarding Thomas Matthew Crooks, the 20-year-old man who attempted to assassinate President Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in 2024.

On Tuesday’s (February 3) episode of Special Report, Patel joined Baier to discuss various ongoing FBI investigations. Baier specifically wanted to know more about the Trump assassination attempt, details of which he said are still lacking.

The host even played a clip of Patel on the show last May, where the FBI Director said, “We don’t feel that the American people have been given the information they need on that, and we’re digging through the files and getting a more robust picture of what happened.”

“So that was May 2025. I mean, I don’t think we, the public, have a more robust picture of that shooter,” Baier stated after airing the clip.

Patel told Baier that that’s “an unfair supposition,” noting the FBI has “put out all the information that we possibly and legally can, while protecting any ongoing matters that are unrelated to [Crooks].”

“But he’s dead,” Baier retorted.

“Well, yes. He’s very much dead, but at the same time, Bret, we at the FBI have to follow the parameters of our investigation and what the law allows us to release,” Patel argued.

Baier continued to press, asking, “Where were the cell phones? Why don’t we know who he was talking to? You know, what exactly happened? I feel like we haven’t gotten the whole picture about Butler even now.”

Patel noted that the FBI has provided “40,000 pages of documents” to congress and “will continue to provide this information with our partners on Capitol Hill when we’re legally able.”

“It’s never going to be enough for everyone,” he continued. “But what we’re saying is, we’re not saying trust us, we’re saying we did an exhaustive search of that, we presented that information to the Department of Justice, and the decision was made on what to release.”

When Baier asked if everything had been put out about Crooks, Patel replied, “Everything. Whether it’s [Jeffrey] Epstein or Charlie Kirk or it’s this shooter in Butler, we always put out what the law permits us to put out.”

New details emerge about armed man shot and killed at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago

Austin Tucker Martin, 21, was killed by Secret Service after entering Trump’s Florida resort with a shotgun on Sunday

Ed Pilkington
23 Feb 2026

The 21-year-old man who was shot and killed after having entered Donald Trump’s Florida resort on Sunday – while carrying a shotgun – came from a North Carolina family of the president’s supporters and had reportedly become increasingly fixated on the so-called Jeffrey Epstein files.

Martin was a recent high school graduate who is believed to have driven down to Florida from his home in North Carolina on Saturday afternoon, obtaining the weapon en route. The New York Times reported that last year he set up his own company, Fresh Sky Illustrations, trading in original drawings of golf courses that were sold through golf course gift shops and on commission.

TMZ reported that Martin had grown increasingly obsessed with Epstein – a former friend of Trump and many other powerful people – after the recent release of files connected to the prosecution of the sex offender and disgraced financier. The website said that it had obtained a text message that he sent to a co-worker earlier in February.

According to TMZ, the text said: “I don’t know if you read up on the Epstein Files, but evil is real and unmistakable … Tell other people about what you hear about the Epstein files and what the government is doing about it. Raise awareness.”

The illustrator came from Cameron, North Carolina, where his relatives described him as quiet and generally opposed to guns. Martin’s cousin told the Associated Press that the family was staunchly pro-Trump.

“We are big Trump supporters, all of us,” Braeden Fields said. “Everybody.” He added, though, that Martin tended not to talk about politics…

Pakistani man is on trial over Trump assassination plot with ties to Iran, US prosecutors say

AP NEWS
February 26, 2026

The trial began this week of a Pakistani man who U.S. prosecutors say had ties to the Iranian government and traveled to New York to meet with men he thought he was recruiting to carry out political assassinations on American soil, including potentially of President Donald Trump.

Asif Merchant, 47, faces a life sentence if he’s convicted of terrorism charges. His trial got underway Wednesday in a federal court in Brooklyn.

Prosecutors said in court filings that a man who Merchant initially met when he arrived in New York in April 2024 later notified authorities about the plot and became a confidential informant, The New York Times reported. Merchant later paid a $5,000 advance to two would-be assassins who were actually undercover FBI agents, prosecutors said.

At the time, Merchant did not specify who the target would be, but court filings show the potential targets included high-level officials such as Trump...

Trump evacuated after security incident at White House correspondents dinner; no sign of injuries

By David Bauder

April 25, 2026

President Donald Trump was uninjured and other top leaders of the United States were evacuated from an annual dinner of White House correspondents on Saturday night after an unspecified threat. There did not immediately appear to be any injuries, and one law-enforcement official said a shooter had opened fire.

Trump is holding a news conference from the White House following Saturday's shooting incident at the correspondents' dinner. Watch his remarks in the player above.

Authorities said the incident occurred outside the ballroom where Trump and other guests were seated. The event was scrapped and will be rescheduled.

"We will do this again," said Weijia Jiang, president of the White House Correspondents' Association. Shortly afterward, staff began breaking down table settings and the presidential lectern.

The Secret Service and other authorities swarmed the banquet hall at the Washington Hilton as guests ducked under tables by the hundreds. Audible gasps echoed through the ballroom as guests realized something was happening. Hundreds of journalists got on phones to call in information.

"Out of the way, sir!" someone yelled. Others yelled to duck. From one corner, a "God Bless America" chant began as Trump was escorted off stage. He fell briefly — he apparently tripped — and was helped up by Secret Service agents.

A law enforcement official confirmed there was a shooter. A law enforcement officer was shot in the bullet-resistant vest but is expected to be OK, one law-enforcement officer told The Associated Press.

Some in the crowd reported hearing what they believed to be five to eight shots fired. The banquet hall — where hundreds of prominent journalists, celebrities and national leaders were awaiting Trump's remarks — was immediately evacuated. Members of the National Guard took up position inside the building as people were allowed to leave but not immediately re-enter. Security outside was also extremely tight.

Those in attendance included Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and many other leaders of the Trump administration.

“Headed to Wash to kill Trump, I think that crosses the line where it is entirely appropriate for the Secret Service to get involved,” said N.C. State Political Science Professor Steven Greene.

Deputies arrested a man allegedly armed with a handgun and ammunition at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes just days before a planned visit by President Donald Trump, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced Tuesday.

Trump was expected to arrive in Southern Californiaon Tuesday afternoon ahead of a Republican Party fundraising event at the golf course.

At about 3:30 p.m. on August 2, deputies assigned to the Lomita Sheriff’s Station responded to the golf course after plainclothes federal agents reported a “suspicious individual” on the property, officials said.

The man was reportedly seen walking on the golf course grounds, taking photographs and videos, and “appearing to monitor security-planning activities,” according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies detained the man, identified as Jeanine John Taele, 38, of Downey, and located his vehicle in the golf course parking lot.

Officials said Taele was carrying a 16-round magazine loaded with hollow-point ammunition in his pants pocket.…

…Detectives with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force obtained a search warrant Monday for Taele’s residence in Downey.

At the home, investigators allegedly recovered an illegally modified AR-style rifle, a 1911 .45-caliber pistol, an AR-platform upper receiver, body armor, high-capacity magazines, a large quantity of pistol and rifle ammunition, notebooks containing what investigators described as “concerning statements,” and two radio-signal devices...

Investigators look at why a plane was allowed to take off as President Trump’s helicopter approached

BY JOSH FUNK AND GARY FIELDS
August 5, 2026

It’s not clear why a plane was allowed to take off as President Donald Trump’s helicopter was approaching Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Tuesday afternoon in an apparent violation of safety procedures put in place after last year’s midair collision near the busy airport.

Both the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration said Wednesday they were investigating what happened when a commercial jet took off just as Marine One left the White House for Andrews Air Force Base with the president aboard for the first leg of a West Coast trip.

The FAA decided after 67 people died on Jan. 29, 2025, when an airliner collided with an Army Black Hawk helicopter that all takeoffs and landings at the Washington, D.C., airport would be halted anytime a helicopter passes by on a conflicting route.
