Unofficial Google Voice client for Palm Pre makes the scene

from Engadget by Nilay Patel4 people liked this

Google Voice might have just been unceremoniously thrown out of the iPhone App Store, but that doesn't mean development isn't racing forward on other platforms -- say hello to dkGoogleVoice, an unofficial client for the Palm Pre. Yeah, it's buggy and has a bare-bones feature set, but hey -- it exists, and it's only going to get better. Can't say that about your little phone, can you Steve?

$18 bucks is a helluva price for 5 clicks in a web browser

I could be wrong, but i thought the activation fee was from Sprint. I didn't get charged anything extra for BB to activate my phone. My first sprint bill will have the activation fee they normally charge. That's what I was told.

I was just thinking the same thing. They may not charge you since it's an upgrade.

Ohh. I know they waived some fees and charged me some others with Sprint telesales. I was under the impression that the policy of not charging an activation fee if you activate online was still in place.
I'm tempted to try to get some free shit by ordering from Sprint again.

I'm sure this will be addressed by a third party soon.

For now, I'm using free videora ipod converter or handbrake to convert.
pick up your media at oneclickmoviez.com:yes::yes:

the video formats the Pre plays are the same ones ipods use

cosign handbrake

Im back in business - i felt like I didnt have a phone without the Pre.

Does the Pre have freeze issues like the Treo did? If it does, then I'll pass...my contract with Verizon ends in December and I'll probably make a switch by then...

Bruh I havent had one freeze or bug or any shit like that - most stable OS I use including OSX

Hey football fans - check your mysprint page - there is a link at the top for VIP passes to your local NFL team's practice. Theyre open to the public anyway but you get sideline/tent access with the pass.

I be leaving 5-7 apps running on my phone 24/7 a day. They'll be a little lag but never no freezes. The lag isn't anything close to what I experience on Windows Mobile (Touch Pro).

I had to really put my thinking cap on, but i got it together now! This homebrew is the shit!!!!

Yo, I just bought the Palm Pre to test out to compare with the Blackberry Tour. Can anyone walk me through the steps to configure the Pre to work as a modem to tether with a macbook.

Also, what are folks opinion of both phones.

Peace thanks in advance.

What's New in Pre Homebrew Apps: There are over 100 of Them

itunes-remote-pre.png

You read that headline exactly right - there are now over 100 apps in our Homebrew forums and more on the way. There are three different Google Voice Apps (including one with SMS support, update: make that two), the above-pictured iTunes Remote app, calculators, games, an iCanHazCheezburger picture finder, an excellent podcast downloader/player.. there's a lot.

Once you get your SDK installed, you're ready to participate in the beta testing action. With any luck at all, Palm will be accepting many of these apps into their App Catalog. Until they're able to get their high falutin', city-slicker system up to speed, though we invite you to check out the down-home, wild west of homebrew apps for the Pre. Don't forget that there are now easier ways to install now - fileCoaster and webOS Quick Install.

If homebrew isn't your thing (it can be a bit much and yes, everything here is very much Beta), it's still worth looking around to get a taste of how easy it is to develop webOS apps and see the stuff the grass-roots developers are working on.

After the break, we present you with the current list compiled by chuccck, newer additions in bold. Before you get to browsing all the homebrew, though, do chuccck a quick solid and congratulate him on his bacon-based proposal (she said yes!). Also, take some time to thank all the great developers who are building these apps!

yo ljinsane just put android on his tilt
Oh word. That's whats up. I still got my TouchPro too. I know they were saying it can be done but drivers like bluetooth & wifi weren't working. I may have to hold on to my TouchPro a lil longer.

sorry to ask this again, but does the new homebrew app installation method allow for uninstalls? i want to start playing around a little bit, but would like the ability to uninstall before I jump in the deep end.

Or, would I be forced to wipe my pre and start from scratch if I want to get rid of some? [that wouldn't be too bad I guess thanks to the pre's ability to pull your contact info from the palm online account plus gmail contacts, etc]
