Palm Pre Owners Step This Way

See I was waiting on Omnia 2 to drop, but now i'm not even sure if it will be on Verizon or not. Supposedly a slew of android phones are coming out this fall. I need to make my way down to a sprint store to play around with this pre b/c Verizon supposed to have it early 2010.

I had my contacts stored in Outlook so when I got my Pre, I used the 1 time app for sending your contacts/calendar appts/tasks/memos OTA to my Pre. Otherwise I don't think you can send your contacts OTA unless you have them stored in a google account or already had a Palm account for your Pre like bwb did..

Nope! Mobile sync doesn't work with the Pre. I made the same mistake when I deactivated my Instinct for the Pre. However, if you still have your old phone with the contacts still on it, you can take it and your Pre to a Sprint store and they have a machine where they can transfer the contacts from your old phone to your Pre. It takes less than 5 minutes to do it.

Greetings Pre users. Quick question.

A friend of mine is on Verizon using the LG Dare. He's choosing between a few smartphones including the Pre. I want to make sure I give valid info. So I wanted to know can the Pre do Voice and Data simultaneously?

Meaning while in a phone conversation a person can also surf the web or other wireless data intensive activity. I have read that that cannot be done on CDMA. Again not wifi data while on a call. I am talking about on the EVDO signal can you do voice and Data?

If you don't know do this. Turn off the wifi. make a call. then while on the call go to various websites, heck go to BGOL. if you can actively surf while on a voice call, please let me know so I give my friend the proper info.

Thanks in advance. As you were. enjoy.

voice and wifi yes but voice and evdo? from what i read no.

voice and wifi yes but voice and evdo? from what i read no.
He is correct. Once on a call the signal attrophies to a 1X signal. Atttempting to use any data services without using wi-fi can cause your call to drop. The only thing that will work while on a call & not using wi-fi is text messaging as it doesn't require more than 1X signal to work anyways.

I refuse to get sprint service where i'm at, it is damn near awful :smh: Plus I get a $50 instant rebate off whatever verzion phone i get.
With that being the case for you then I'd say either wait it out for the Pre or get a blackberry. Windows Mobile will just give you headaches in the longrun & I just remembered that Symbian is Nokia exclusive. Verizon doesn't use Nokia as Nokia primarily makes GSM phones.

Good looking out. Thanks for responding quickly. Peace.

What's the difference between EVDO, 1X and R on the signal bar?
EV-DO is the 3G signal used for data services like GPS, internet, email, etc... as they require higher transfer speeds than needed for for calls or text messaging. It is only used on CDMA networks like Sprint, Verizon & Alltel.

1X is the standard CDMA voice and text messaging channel.

I've never seen R before. Perhaps that's for when you're roaming outside your network area.

Yea my boy had me looking at the new tour. But i'm not sure if BB is my style. I was going to wait for the pre but it's hard, and my ass is feenin a new phone. Does the camera have a good zoom feature?? I need a good camera so I can snap flix of hotties in public to share with my people. The shitty 2 MP one i got now is almost no good. I was also interested to see what android has to offer though i've heard mostly good things about WebOs.

The camera on the Pre is 3.2 megapixels with flash but it doesn't have a zoom feature. However, the quality of the pictures is very good.

i have decided to fuck with the Tour.....reason being the Pre battery life sucks......That is the only complaint i have about the Pre......so i will sit this one out and wait for the PRE 2

The battery life on just about any touchscreen/blackberr phone sucks especially on CDMA networks. I had a BB Curve for Verizon through my old job & I had to recharge that micky ficky every day. My BB was set to turn on at 7:30AM & I was lucky if I made it to 5:30PM without the battery below 70%. CDMA just draws too much battery power since it's pulling in the stronger faster network signals.

aight......compare your battery to the tour how does it hold up?

I haven't played with the Tour so I can't compare that model but I can say that the battery life on my Pre isn't too far off from what I was getting from the Curve. I charge my phone every night either way.

Get on-the-go restaurant reservations without any reservations
safe_image.php

OpenTable for Palm webOS is the latest addition to the Palm Pre’s beta App Catalog. The popular restaurant reservation service adds a few new goodies to the menu thanks to the unique capabilities of Palm webOS. For example, you can find restaurants with availability near your current location, and your reservations can be automatically integrated into your calendar.
OpenTable is available to download immediately at no cost via the App Catalog.

Also new in the App Catalog: Fliq Bookmarks, a helpful utility from Mark/Space that works with The Missing Sync for Palm Pre to transfer Safari bookmarks from your desktop (Mac for now, PC coming soon) to your Palm Pre.

I have a TouchPro & a Touch that I'm bout to sell. Both are in mint condition so if you're interested in the Pro hit me up in PM so we can work something out.

nah bruh im gettin a pre today or tomorrow at bb

what kind of phone are you moving from?

this is how i solved all my
outlook07 <-->smartphone
win<--->mac
pre<--->win<---->mac
sync issues
I exported all my outlook contacts to csv and imported them to my primary gmail business acct. Then just sync your contacts with the pre to your gmail account.
I now use thunderbird and postbox instead of outlook. I sync all my contacts anywhere along with using imap mail etc. No probs at all.

most new smartphones support gmail contact sync - i just sync'ed my contacts to my ipod touch yesterday.
I also sync my calendar like this - you can even sync to iCal and Outlook

I think other than wifi and voice call this cant happen with most phones. The only way you could do it without two radios in the phone (you think you have battery problems now?) would be to have software in the phone that would calculate bandwidth available and setup the split of voice and data or just some general simultaneous voice and data split setting. I think they havent gone there because call quality and network coverage is already a source of problems and addin this would put more strain on those things.
I havent researched it. im pretty sure there is alot out there on this.

Yup after googling
http://wireless.agilent.com/rfcomms/refdocs/gsmgprs/gen_bse_dtm.php

looks like nokia's can do both and its called dual transfer mode DTM
it requires a special component in the phone and software on the carrier's switches - so its Hardware on both ends and Software
the only way you're gonna do it on sprint is via voip and data at the same time or CS (circuit switched - voice call) and wifi

after more looking
EVDO doesnt do simultaneous voice and data
the euro pre version will use UTMS and will be dual mode

Palm's webOS gets a couple more apps -- are the floodgates opening?

from Engadget by Darren Murph1 person liked this

We're doing our darnedest not to be recklessly optimistic here, but after weeks and weeks of nothing, a few new somethings have sauntered into Palm's App Catalog. If you'll recall, we actually heard earlier this month that said catalog was destined to get some serious additions in the near future, and we're hoping that the surfacing of these two is a sign of things to come. Announced this morning over on Palm's official blog, OpenTable and Fliq Bookmarks are now available to download on the Pre. The former allows hungry owners to secure themselves a spot at a nearby eatery, while the latter works with The Missing Sync for Palm Pre to transfer Safari bookmarks from your desktop (Mac for now, PC coming soon) to the Pre. Sure, it's not like these two are the killer apps we've been longing for, but at this point, any progress is great progress.Filed under: Cellphones, Software

Propz on the info.

I appreciate the cooler heads on this board.

Us Palm Pre owners already know this but WebOS totally owns WindowsMobile.

Since yesterday, I decided to leave a bunch of programs open instead of constantly opening and closing them. Right now I have these apps open: Clock, Calendar, Tweed, Messages, Email, Phone, AppuWeather, and the Web Browser... been like that since last night and everything is still running pretty stable. A little lag but nothing too crazy. You could never do anything like this on Windows Mobile.

I thought the max number of app cards that could be left open is 5. Although I will admit I never tried to open more than 5 anyways.

the shit is so fast I used to just dis-card and start the shit up fresh every time- dont know why

speaking of multitasking - mac osx is pissing me off with this trouble free bullshit - cant open apps because of fuckin errors

Screencapture question for you guys... when i use the browser to navigate to a page and I find something I want to use as my background I take the screenshot... but I still have the two buttons from the browser in the bottom left and right corners. Is there any way to make those buttons disappear when taking the screenshot?

Battery Problem Solved!
Seidio Innocell 2600mAh:eek:Extended Battery
(since I'm not getting a touchstone anytime soon)

I can only speak for myself, but I'll give up small-size and weight for extra power. I must say the standard batt has improved for me. I watch at least an hour of video when I'm riding the train, but I always have the usb cord with me when I leave the house. For the $$ I'm going to give this a try. Yes, it comes with a custom back.
The 700p had 1700mAh. Who thought 1100 was a good idea???:smh:

Damn buying that would mean I'd have to get a different hardcase as well. I don't even know if they make one for that battery door. :(

I NEED that power. I ride the train 2hrs a day till i finish my certifications. I'm converting movies to mp4 and playing homebrew chess & shit like that. Pre is my primary source for entertainment. Waiting for non-root MAME and that ps-one emulation.

My usage is only going up from here.

best to download them and get them on the phone via usb mode or get that homebrew app fileroller or whatever it is that can download the image - just get the url for the image and paste it into that app

anyone have that sprint service thats like my fav?
adding one unlimited line can be like unlimited any time minutes when u use google voice
