UFC 118: Edgar vs. Penn 2 is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on August 28, 2010 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, United States.[1] The third UFC Fan Expo is expected to coincide with the event [2] The event will be the first the UFC has held in Massachusetts.

Nate Marquardt and Alessio Sakara were originally set to face each other at UFC 116, but the fight was cancelled due to the death of Sakara's father. [3]. On July 23, Sakara's original opponent, Jorge Rivera suffered a broken arm in training and was replaced by Gerald Harris. On August 5, Sakara then bowed out due to an unknown injury and was being replaced by UFC veteran Joe Vedepo.[4] On August 18, it was announced that the Harris/Vedepo bout had been scrapped altogether.[5]

On August 2, 2010, the bout between Nate Marquardt and Rousimar Palhares was moved to UFC Fight Night 22 and promoted to the new main event. The original main event was scheduled to be Demian Maia vs. Alan Belcher, however, Belcher had to withdraw due to an injured retina.[6] As a result of this, Maia has been moved to this card and will now face Mario Miranda.[7]

The event will feature the MMA debut of professional boxer and current IBA heavyweight champion James Toney.

On August 5, it was announced that Terry Etim had suffered a broken rib in training and was pulling out of his bout with Joe Lauzon. Etim is being replaced by current Tachi Palace Fights Lightweight Champion and former UFC and TUF veteran Gabe Ruediger. [8]

Phil Baroni was scheduled to face John Salter, but Baroni was forced off the card with an injury.[9] Dan Miller will serve as Baroni's replacement.[10]

On August 25th, Dana White announced that the winner of the the Florian vs. Maynard fight would be guaranteed the next shot at the lightweight title.[11]

UFC 118 will also feature preliminary fights live on Spike TV.[12]

Enjoy the battles tomorrow, everyone. And props to ANYONE going to the FAN EXPO today/tomorrow ... feel free to add comments/posts/pics in replies here in this thread ... the fan expos are always huge ... they got WELL OVER 100 or 125k + people at the 2-day one in Vegas earlier this year!

Good looks Funk....

Couture
Maynard
Diaz

Funny story from Clay Guida on MMA Junkie radio this past week. He's a fan of Nate's ... and said in their fight he was working on Nate's leg ... and trying to gain position on the ground ... and glanced up at the clock ... 3 minutes left in the round. Nate yelled at him "209, bitch ... 209, bitch!" - Clay didn't know what he was talking about and mentioned it to his cornerman/cornermen and said - "I guess this guy can't tell time either ..." and dude told him he was probably referring to his area code and shoutin' out his beloved Stockton, California.

The afternoon's most entertaining moment came courtesy of preliminary-card fighter Gabe Ruediger, who's returning to the organization for the first time since flaming out of "The Ultimate Fighter 5," a reality show on which he failed to make weight. In the lead-up to the fight, opponent Joe Lauzon continually has poked fun at Ruediger, who was seen indulging in chocolate cake before the "TUF 5" incident. Turning the tables, Ruediger handed Lauzon a cake during the weigh-ins. It read, "Sorry for your loss."

The full weigh-in results included:

MAIN CARD (Pay-per-view)

* Champ Frankie Edgar (154) vs. B.J. Penn (154) - for lightweight title
* Randy Couture () vs. James Toney (237)

* Demian Maia (184) vs. Mario Miranda (185)

PRELIMINARY CARD (Spike TV)

Speaking of records ... I was talking to my brother yesterday about WHAT'S NEXT for Kenny Florian. The winner of him/Maynard is next in line for the winner of EDGAR/PENN II ... and IF Kenny won ... this would be his 3rd title shot. He lost his 2 previous ones ... against SHERK and PENN respectively ... so what would happen if he won against Maynard and then in the next 4 - 6 months ended up LOSING FOR A 3RD TIME in a championship bout? Where would his head/heart be at? What would be his next move? Considering he's got a solid educational background / the Florian Martial Arts Center gym he runs with his brother / a co-hosting gig alongside Franklin and Jon on ESPN's MMA Live, and the occasional color commentary-type gigs in recent years for the UFC and WEC respectively. He's got a variety of options ... so where would his heart be at? Per Sherdog, he's currently listed as the #6 fighter at 155lbs presently. Plus he's fought a who's-who of fighters over the years (Sanchez/Guida/Stevenson/Sherk/Penn/Huerta/Gomi/the list goes on).

Dont get me wrong, BJ can definately pull out ther victory. But at 155, I think Edgar will always be a problem for BJ stylistically. Still BJ is the best lightweight in mma.

i was thinking the same thing h-funk!!! because i think kenflo is gonna beat maynard....maynard has not looked good in his last 2 fights. kenflo's striking will be too much for him!! maynard's striking is still developing and i dont think he will be able to eek out another decision against kenny!!

if kenny gets another title shot and loses again it should be time to wrap it up>>

Yeah ... Nate's always cool with the mean mugs. Lol @ when he locked that guy up in the submission a few years back and started flippin' the DOUBLE-BIRDS to the camera and flexin' ... that shit was on one of them Spike finales if I remember correctly ... few million people watchin' ... had Rogan cracking up

Maynard's a beast though ... can't ever doubt that guy given his strength/stamina and wrestling background. Plus he trains with some tough cats in his camp.

As for Florian ... big fan of his too ... but yeah ... IF he did decide to continue on in the game ... how long would it take for him to get BACK INTO the title mix yet again IF he ended up dropping a 3rd-straight title fight opportunity. Would it take another year or two before he got ANOTHER chance? That's gotta weigh on Dana/Fertita Bros/Joe Silva's minds, as well as his own ...

I'm copping this.

It's gonna be interesting to see what BJ does differently this time...I think he goes for takedowns since he's the bigger man and has excellent top game. I think Frankie gets finished in the third on the ground somehow.

Couture has to win tomorrow or MMA takes a huge loss, IMO. That fight has me nervous.

I can't wait to see this, although I just got done watching the amazing card that was Sengoku 14. The main event had one of the best fights I've ever seen (another rematch for the title, like Edgar vs Penn II). I'm hoping UFC 118 doesn't let me down.

Jorge Santiago vs Kazuo Misaki for the title (rematch) <---- Epic battle, but the whole card was very entertaining.

I really need to step my SENGOKU and DREAM games up, for real.

UFC 118 weigh-in: 237 pounds! Did Toney take this seriously?
By Steve Cofield

What happened to all the hard work? We heard James Toney had gotten himself into shape. You can crow about being in the best condition of your life but the scale doesn't lie. Toney stepped on stage Friday at the UFC 118 weigh-in and checked in at a ridiculous 237 pounds. That matches his heaviest weight ever as a boxer. It's 20 pounds heavier than his last boxing match just 11 months ago against Matthew Greer. Keep in mind, Toney spent most of his boxing career between 160-175 pounds. At barely 6-feet tall, 237 pounds is a lot to carry.

Toney takes on the UFC legend Randy Couture on Saturday night and needs to be light on his feet, try to avoid Couture's takedowns and take advantage of the speed in his hands. Toney didn't help his cause by showing up at a blubbery 237.

And with all the smack-talking Toney has done lately, this certainly doesn't look good for the 42-year-old boxer. Also not looking good was Toney as he removed his pants (pictured to the right). He gave the crowd at the TD Garden a little extra show when part of his rear end was exposed. The MMA fans in attendance let loose a hearty laugh.

Many experts already weren't giving Toney a chance, anyway. Couture has been installed a minus-800 favorite to win the fight. Even UFC president Dana White admits that he's out to make an example of Toney, who's been talking trash about mixed martial artists and White for years.

"What people don't realize is that this started back in 2002," White told the Opie and Anthony Show on XM. "When we first bought the company, when Tito Ortiz was the big name in the UFC at that time. (Toney) came out and started talking all sorts of smack about the UFC and Tito. He wanted to fight one of these guys back then."

Toney turned up the heat at the end of 2009 when he stalked White before UFC 107. Less than a month later, he crashed the postfight press conference at UFC 108 in Las Vegas.

Toney holds a boxing record of 72-6-3, but will step into the Octagon for the first time. Couture enters the fight with 28 professional MMA fights. He was also an Olympic-level wrestler throughout his 20's. Toney just began working on his wrestling and other elements of MMA at the start of 2010.

All 20 fighters made weight without any issues.

I'm not surprised.....

I fucks with the Diaz Bros.

I got to meet Nick Diaz recently. Cool ass nigga. Cool ass nigga.

As for this show, I'm sure COuture will win, but I bet on Toney. Odds was too nice. Not only did I bet on Toney straight up, but I put him in a small $50 parlay bet with Gabe Rudiger that will net me over a G if they both win. So I'm cheering for Toney plus Randy irks me.

As for the rest of the card: Florian is too nice with everything. Nobody in the division has anything for him...except BJ. He would kill Frankie Edgar.

BJ looked serious at the weighins. I still think BJ won the last fight. He'll win this one.

Nate Diaz will win against Marcus. Marcus has problems against fighters with reach as Ben Saunders beat the piss out of him last time and Diaz has a similar reach.

i hope couture has been working on his double leg shot. i dont know about clinching. i mean, he can may be able to out dirtybox toney, but its risky. I wonder if toney will have any gas left if he makes it out of the 1st round. My boy mike pierce is fighting a tough ass Brazilian. hope he can pull it off and use some of the the winning money to upgrade his bitch ass computer.

I'm going to watch it in a movie theatre (never knew they did this, first time). Who's watched a fight in a cinema before?

Toney is so out of shape but he's a well known counter puncher. They dont call him "Lights Out" for nothing. Randy is gonna try to take him to the ground. He better hope he don't get rocked trying to take Toney down.

peace

I'm going to watch it in a movie theatre (never knew they did this, first time). Who's watched a fight in a cinema before?
Tyson Vs Spinx :angry::angry::angry::angry::angry:
If u wanna call it one - the hype & prelims were long as fuck but your show should be much, much more entertaining:lol:
Enjoy that shit!

peace

28 minutes until SHOWTIME!

I got bad feeling about the Couture/Toney fight...Ihope Randy doesn't fuck around.
