Official STAR WARS:THE FORCE AWAKENS discussion thread

Thats where your wrong they both had the force! Both Fin and Rae had awoken the force in themselves. Hans son noticed it in Fin when he was in the village in the beginning. Something made him turn and look at him for some reason. Also when they were back on the ship he already knew that fin was the one that turned against them. There was something that kept drawing Rae and Fin together. Fin was in waste management and never flew or fired any laser cannons but he sure got the hang of it fast as hell. Im telling you the force is strong in both of them!

Luke is the only Jedi. Try is force sensitive and maybe Finn. I am hoping he is.

I knew it was a retelling of ANH, and I actually think it is better than ANH.

Definitely gonna peep it again

  • Star Wars Episode 7: The search for Luke in Hawaii
  • The creatures were impressive, none of that overused CGI crap
  • Kylo Ren is a Darth Vader fanboy.... with major anger issues
  • Luke failed his apprentice just like Obi-wan did.
  • Rey had a Dagobah Dark Side cave moment when the light saber called out to her
  • Finn was too much of a non conformist for the 1st order? didn't they test for that ?
  • Rey just figures out how to do Jedi mind tricks through "magic"?
  • Adam Driver is an impressive actor.... Han had to know that bridge was a bad idea
  • Supreme Leader Snoke I assume is Darth Plageius whom Palpatine's spoke of in Episode 3
  • There can only be balance in the force is all the force sensitive beings die
  • Overall 6/10 ....minus the nostalgia the film would get 4/10 (basically a reboot)

I liked it but some parts were predictable. Only thing I'm not feeling is how Kylo Ren was losing to shawty in a lightsaber duel. I get that she's strong in the force but he's been trained. No reason why he should've been struggling like that even while injured.

That was suspect no trained martial artist would lose to a naturally gifted fighter during their first contest.

On a Sidenote: Was it just me....

Or did anyone else notice the part when KanjiKlub (aka the 3 main nuccas from all 'The Raid' movies) showed up together... looking to whup Han Solo's ass? :dunno:

2603592.jpg

Seriously, I got 'real amped' when these nuccas showed up because...... I thought we was finna see the MOST EPIC hand-to-hand combat scenes EVER captured in ANY Star Wars film ever made. :D

Sheeeiiiiitttt.....for a hot second......... I thought the whole movie was about to take a 'left turn' down a dark road of 'martial arts' brutality.:rolleyes:

When they cut to a close-up of little guy's face / expression.... I was like... "Shit.Just.Got.Real"

But JJ Abrams kinda fucked it up tho.

Abrams shoulda cut these dudes loose to fight against BOTH the Rebel Infantry and the First Order Stormtroopers.

Like, they coulda cornered Solo on the surface of the planet... But Han blasts his way out & escapes by (accidentally) heading to that bridge for the 'big confrontation' with his son... Leaving the KanjiKlub to fight their way off the planet in the midst of all the mayhem.

But let them 3 dudes escape the havoc & destruction... So they could return in the next sequel as Kylo Ren's henchmen, or some shit.

Sshhheeeiiittt, I could see them 3 dudes replacing Bobba Fett as a badass trio of 'bounty hunters' for the Dark Side, next time around.

Think about it....

Those 3 KanjiKlub Warriors from The Raid movies vs. Jedi Rei + Finn + add a dope new 'Rebel' character.... would make for a devastating (hand-2-hand) 'six-man' showdown battle in the next movie.

Y'all acting like kylo ren is some master Sith Lord. He's young like she is. We don't know how far into his training he got. We know her life was harder than his privileged life. She's been handling her shit. She's bout that life lol. Plus he was leaking out from being shot. and he's arrogant

my thoughts:

*okay they are starting rei off REALLY HIGH..she has gifted force abilities and was able to use the jedi mind trick (tho no one told her that was even possible considering she thought luke and the force was a myth)... she BESTED a trained force adept in her first dual with NO TRAINING and used force telekinesis to draw a lightsaber away from him. Luke on the other hand had trouble using force techiques even when trained by yoda.. so either kylo ren is super soft or rei is a fucking super saiyan jedi.

The way they set her up I don't see much tension in her battles with ren in the future episodes. It will be interesting to see how other directors play that out.

* An even larger death star??? again?? seriously??:rolleyes: they even lampooned it by coming up with a half assed plan to bring it down much in the SAME WAY...this makes the empire look more and more stupid and the plotting just lazy as we go at this point:smh::smh:

* for a franchise called STAR wars not much action happened IN SPACE..all major battles and dog fighting action scenes took place in the skies of a planet. Something just felt off about that. It was like JJ Abrams wasn't really interest or could be bothered to do any actual space battle scenes except that brief one where finn and poe escape.

* So R2 just sat inert all this time for what exactly?? then come to find out this nigga had the map all along?? Was there a reason he kept this info from leia?

Ranking them in terms of best episode...

Empire Strikes Back is STILL the best episode then its
Return of the Jedi
The Force Awakens
A New Hope
prequels (doesn't matter theyre all equally shitty)

I'm speculating that he has some untapped potential or sensitivity to the force based on the following
a) They call out that the Strom trooper programming clearly didn't stick with him
b) He seems to have a degree of natural ability and talent for shooting and ability to use the light saber to fight (a bit)
c) Wishful thinking on my part.

Also when maz Kanata and Finn was crawling out of the building he said needed a weapon and she told him he already had one pointing to the lightsaber in his hand

Questions and plot holes.

Okay, The New Order is building a "death star" like device called the "Star Destroyer".
-Being that the rebels have dealt with this one 2 other occasions, why didn't ANYONE already know about this?
-How are they able to keep things like this secret without giving it away?
-If they were able to infiltrate at the moment when they needed to why not BEFORE?

It just doesn't hold water.....to me that was a major plot hole.

When he said sanitation, I didn't take it to literally mean trash pick up. I figured it meant sanitation like cleaning up the republic and risistance scum. He was being trained to roll with the winners. It's why he knew all of the plans. That, or those guys need to develop a closed door policy.

That's not correct. He had half a map, the other Jedi killed in the beginning had the other half. The order already had the map, they just needed the exact location.

When she fucked the muffin up, I knew she was into the role. She even licked the plate bowl.

it was ok... i gotta stop going into these movies with unrealistic expectations...

What was your expectations Slam? So far, reading in this thread it is about what I expected. Way better than the prequels, but somewhere in the middle of "A New Hope" and "Return of the Jedi" (with Empire Strikes Back still being #1 of the Star Wars films).

Can't wait until tomorrow!

All of yall talking like this is a one off movie. they could not give it all to you in the first episode. the guys that you are talking about, well at least all of them did not die. Im pretty sure they might turn up in the next episode even though you know who is gone.

Saw the Imax version today and it was good. I already new most of the movie's plot from reading spoilers online. This movie does remind you of A New Hope and Empire. I just wished they would have kept the expanded universe instead of taking pieces here and there from the expanded universe. There were way better stories in the expanded universe than what was in this movie. One thing that they did that I didn't like was trying to make the movie just like the original trilogy, I know everyone love the original trilogy and hates the prequels but star wars doesn't have to be like them to be enjoyable. I might be one of the few who liked the prequels because I wanted to see how we got to the originals. What I want to see from episode 8 is more jedi, a much better lightsaber battle like they had in the prequels, more about this supreme leader Snoke, Leia using the force and a lightsaber, and more of Luke instead of a minute of him. I would have liked to see the story that Lucas had for episode 7. Overall good movie, I would have Empire 1st, Return of the Jedi 2nd, Revenge of the Sith 3rd, and A force Awakens 4th.

Personally, it's not so much about 'getting everything spectacular to happen in this first episode'... :smh:

It's more like..... after seeing what ALL 3 OF THESE GUYS can DO in those 'Raid' movies (as far as action / combat scenes go).... to see them 'not do very much' at all onscreen with their COMBINED ABILITIES... was a big letdown, imo. (And some of em even died. :o)

So I felt like their ENTIRE 'fight game' was sorely under-utilized. :(

(It's like having the Lebron, Wade & Curry of 'martial arts skills' on your team.... but the coach doesn't run ANY plays for them.... and pulls 'em ALL off the floor BEFORE any one of them could even take a shot at the basket :smh:)

Because in the NEXT movie, (if they even cast them again, which is not guaranteed).... we won't ever get chance to SEE ALL 3 OF THEM... 'standing together'... on the 'same side' again. :smh:

What 'could have been' an EPIC fight scene... never reached 'a potentially legendary melee' that would have been talked about for a loooong time .... that this movie could have delivered.

Think about it.....

One, single badass 'fight scene' with ALL 3 of these cats involved... could've potentially been the BEST BATTLE in the entire franchise.

And that's all fans would've needed to see to make this movie (arguably) the BEST Star Wars film of all time, imo.

But now we are only left to 'speculate' about.... 'what might happen next'. :dunno:

In short, since he's NOT gonna be directing the next 2 Star Wars sequel movies.... JJ Abrams missed a 'great opportunity' to make something really spectacular & memorable.... in favor of re-hashing several plot-lines from 40 years ago.

Just my opinion.

I saw it, got hyped and sorry folks this movie was garbage. it basically takes the first three and re tells the entire story line over again with new characters. Same Death star just bigger, same fighters, same falcon, same lost child=new jedi, a punk ass katana light saber???, same sand dunes, even the damn kill the death star was along the same lines.

the new vadar looked like a 80's Mexican rock star, and the Black dude from attack the block was moist as fuck, HE WAS ANNOYING. and wtf was that alien looking dark side entity----shit I'm not that deep but it's looked like an alien from any other sci fi flick

and please tell me what character was lupita?? and for a movie of this budget the special effects were extremely average. I'm not even a film buff and I could see major editing mistakes and a lack of immersion into the fantasy of the environment. and the part the hurt me the most the sound was terrible. maybe I chose a bad theatre but the score was damn near the same, and I could barely hear the shots from the early fighter fights.

folks are going to see it regardless, but I'd say wait for the download

no spoilers but that ending was WACK

Lupita's name in the movie was Maz Katana.
The short, yellow female alien with the BIG GOGGLES who ran that 'intergalactic lounge'... and gave Skywalker's lightsaber to Finn.

She did an OUTSTANDING job with her 'voice-over 'work, imo.
She sounded so much different from her character in '12 Years a Slave'.... that she was unrecognizable in Star Wars. :dunno:

so why didn't he and bb8 produce the full map when they first met? why was he voluntarily inert only to start working again when convenient for the script without any real explanation?

AND WHY THE FUCK DO JEDI KEEP RUNNING AWAY WHEN SHIT DOESN'T GO THEIR WAY???

Yoda exiled himself to never again be effective to anything IF he was effective in the first place
Same for ObiWan and now Luke..when shit goes sideways for these dudes they take their ball and go live in the mountains..dafuq???:smh::smh:

This was something I didn't get but kinda let it go so I could enjoy the rest of the film and see how things develop:

Episode VII
THE FORCE AWAKENS

Luke Skywalker has vanished. In his absence, the sinister FIRST ORDER has risen from the ashes of the Empire and will not rest until Skywalker, the last Jedi, has been destroyed.

With the support of the REPUBLIC, General Leia Organa leads a brave RESISTANCE. She is desperate to find her brother Luke and gain his help in restoring peace and justice to the galaxy.

Leia has sent her most daring pilot on a secret mission to Jakku, where an old ally has discovered a clue to Luke’s whereabouts….

The whole plot of the movie is a total mess - propably because the movie does NOTHING to explain the situation in the galaxy.
Is the Republic ruling the galaxy or the New Order? If the New Order is the supreme power, how can the Republic have a known capital without the New Order simply invading and taking the complete leadership for enhanced interrogation? If the Republic is in power, why is there something called the resistance?

I liked everything about this movie... Have read almost ALL of the non cannon books and been a star wars head from jump. I thought this movie was damn near perfect. Folks are trippin on Fin. He is the new Han Solo of this new crew, lots of potential in his character. Him and Rey are an inverse mirror of Lucas and his wife... trust, they will get together. The only character I wish I saw more of was Poe. he didn't get enough shine. When they had that scene of him flying the X-wing with Fin yelling at the end.... I almost jumped out my seat.

Han and Leia was a little rushed, there was alot of untapped story between the two, maybe we will get that in this Han Solo movie that is supposed to come out.

I liked Kylo Ren! aka Ben aka Jacen. Really hoped to see some mention of the yuuzhan vong. Ren being tempted by the Light is a good spin. I liked how he played Han like he was going to switch sides but it was all just to buy time for the weapon to charge.

I think Snope has a crew of Sith Apprentices which is interesting. That scene in the rain during the force vision Rey had like 6 or 7 people like Kylo. Maybe they dont follow the Sith Rule of 2.

Was that Snope projection to scale???! lol

Didn't they say that Luke took the Jedi and moved them? They made it seem like he was already training new Jedi.

The ending with Rey just standing there, holding the light saber and extending it to Luke was VERY powerful.

Is it me or is the house of Skywalker doomed to fail? I mean, nephews becoming sith lords, Han Solo becoming a teacher then dying, eventually Chewbacca dies too (see novels) then we go Luke being a pussy. Man, more twist than Days of Our Lives.:hmm: or General Hospitalo_O

This movie was shit.
Too much wise cracking comedy.
I liked the shots and direction but the story was wack
The Nazism was lame and corny. Did they have to use the color red?
No real background on ANYONE's motivation.
When Han died, I didn't even care.
Leia and Han just looked sad.
If Leia is a General, no one was paying attention to her! She gave NO orders.
Lame.
