He's absolutely right. What he's saying about creating our own leagues and buying black and thinking black is the end game and always has been.

The only point I think he's missing that he's focusing on the macro (big picture) and not the micro (the now). He and others gotta remember that everything has a beginning point. And after 450 years of instiutionalized racism and discrimination that isn't going anywhere in white culture, we as black people are finally now learning to stand together and on our own over the last 50-100 years. Progress is slow, but lasting when we get it right.

He's gotta remember that our history and what's been done to us isn't gonna disappear overnight. Unteaching our own to love ourselves first, over white wealth isn't going to go away tomorrow, but there's always a starting point. And so long as we start and follow through, the more and more that happens, the quicker we can come together as a solid unit and make ourselves known and heard.

Standing up for Kaep isn't just about today. It's about yesterday and tomorrow and 20, 40, 100 years down the line, and if this starting point for many, can lead to the boycott of other sponsors like Gillette, Target, Verizon, Timbaland or even bigger things greater than sponsors, then it's done it's job.

But let me just say, I think it's fine to support Colin for standing up for all of us. He SHOULD have a job in the NFL.

But to be completely honest, I would love if he told the NFL to fuck off, and dedicated his life to the platform and movement he started. I'd rather see that than him relegated to being a backup QB somewhere.

Unlike the NFL, the NBA has an explicit rule for the anthem: “Players, coaches and trainers are to stand and line up in a dignified posture along the sidelines or on the foul line during the playing of the National Anthem.”

The rule the NBA put in place to punish people like Colin that don't stand for the anthem is still in place and not going anywhere. That was a reaction to Mahmoud Abdul Rauf's protest.
