Official Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Discussion (12/1/17 @8PM)

Kree Assassin from Marvel Comics Headed to Agents of SHIELD

Sals-Bek is a relatively obscure character having made his only appearance in 1995’s Inhumans: The Great Refuge. However, in that book he was tasked with killing Black Bolt’s inner-circle while they were lampooned on Earth. Given that Medusa, Black Bolt himself, and other key Inhumans are in that very predicament at the moment as they’re being hunted by Maximus’ soldiers on Earth, Sals-Bek’s arrival could mean both shows are about to tie in, especially if Black Bolt’s family remains on Earth.

Given that AoS is bringing back the Kree next season and that the series will be picking up with Coulson and his fellow heroes trapped in space, the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is certainly expanding its scope on the small screen.

AoS has already done extensive arcs with Earth’s NuHumans and perhaps Sals-Bek’s mission will be to find those who experienced Terrigenesis transformations on Earth and kill them for the Kree. Either way, this Kree hitman spells trouble for Coulson, Quake, and the rest of the team, as they contend with all these galactic threats encroaching upon Earth.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return to ABC on Friday, December 1, following the conclusion of Inhumans. The series stars Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Chloe Bennet as Daisy “Quake” Johnson, Ming-Na Wen as Melinda May, Iain De Caestecker as Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Jemma Simmons and Henry Simmons as Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie.

Why Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Will Have Multiple Arcs In Season 5

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. went in some exciting new directions in Season 4 when the block of episodes was split off into three distinct arcs, or "pods." The first followed the introduction of Robbie Reyes as Ghost Rider, the second featured the development of A.I.D.A. as an epic villain, and the third sent our crew of agents into a digital framework. It was a very different format to the season than fans were used to, and it's one that the show will use again in Season 5 for some pretty big reasons. Marvel TV head honcho Jeph Loeb had this to say about S.H.I.E.L.D.:

It gave an opportunity to the writers to tell a complete chapter so that as the audience... It came out of necessity of the fact that ABC runs the shows and then needs to take breaks to have specials and things like that and you go into the holidays or the Olympics or something like that. So rather than waiting and having the audience have to play catch up because we're not on for three or four or sometimes seven weeks, they said, 'OK let's try to do this in bites.' And so this first bite is the first 10 episodes of this season.

Jeph Loeb explained why breaking seasons of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. into multiple arcs is effective while speaking at New York Comic Con (via Screenrant), and his comments indicate that the first arc of Season 5 will run for ten episodes when the show finally hits the airwaves. The Season 4 cliffhanger saw Coulson and Co. whisked away by a mysterious group, and we last saw Coulson in outer space, so we can bet that there's plenty of material to cover in the first "bite" of the season.

Breaking Season 4 up into arcs was probably quite helpful for those of us who have been frustrated by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s hiatuses each year. Each season since the first has been split up by surprisingly long break. In Seasons 2 and 3 in particular, there was a span of around three months between the midseason finale and the midseason premiere, and a lot of momentum and cohesiveness can be lost when there's such a huge break in the action. Season 4 was able to air three complete yet connected arcs within the span of a single season without any frustrating gaps.

Personally, I'm pretty psyched that S.H.I.E.L.D. is going for multiple arcs again in Season 5. The show felt more tightly-plotted with shorter arcs compared to one big story, and there was certainly no filler. Besides, given that ABC reportedly wanted to cancel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. rather than renew for Season 5, I'm all for the show making things convenient for ABC scheduling. The show has just gotten better and better.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was bumped from its usual Tuesday time slot to Fridays when it returns following the end of Inhumans, as ABC has stated that they want to establish Friday on the network as a place for sci-fi and fantasy on the small screen. Ratings probably won't recover to their earlier season averages with a Friday night time slot, but low ratings also might not matter as much on a Friday. We'll have to wait and see.

Season 5 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will premiere on Friday, December 1 with a two-hour premiere. For what you can watch while we wait for more S.H.I.E.L.D., take a peek at our fall TV guide.

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 Gets An Official Premiere Date; Will Kick-Off With A Double Episode

Straight from NYCC, it's just been announced that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return for its fifth season on December 1st with two episodes back-to-back.

Specific plot details are under wraps, but thanks to a recent promo poster we do have confirmation that Coulson and the team will be journeying into space following the events of the season 4 finale.

Though unconfirmed, the prevailing theory is that the mysterious group that brought them there are actually Agents of S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient World Observation and Response Department), who are tasked with protecting Earth from intergalactic threats in the comics.

The panel hasn't finished yet so there's a chance we'll also get a teaser. Keep an eye out for updates.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is headed back to ABC for Season 5 on December 1, shortly after Inhumans ends its freshman season run. The Marvel comic series will have a special two-hour premiere at 8 PM EST and will air at its regular time of 9 PM EST starting December 8.

“We’re so proud of the way that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has grown creatively every season. The series is a top performer for us especially in delayed viewing where we see almost triple-digit increases,” said Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment. “Season five is their strongest season yet, and we can’t wait for the fans to see it. We feel that the move to Friday, creating a ‘genre night’ on ABC, appeals to the show’s loyal fan base.”

Season 4 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. left off with Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) and the team saving the world with the help of Ghost Rider. The team’s celebration was interrupted by a mysterious man and an elite squad. We then saw Coulson aboard a ship deep in space.

The new season will see the return of Gregg as well as Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Chloe Bennet as Daisy Johnson, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, Henry Simmons as Agent Alphonso “Mack” MacKenzie and Natalia Cordova-Buckley as Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.was co-created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, who also serve as executive producers along with Jeffrey Bell, Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.
