Official Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Discussion (12/1/17 @8PM)

Despite the decade-long, 19 film build-up to the two-part event Avengers: Infinity War—and the be-all, end-all stakes that come with it–the Marvel Cinematic Universe will not quit while its ahead end there. In fact, the studio has already scheduled the movie that will have the unenviable job of following up the massive Infinity War: Inhumans. While the Inhumans are not a well-known property with guaranteed bankability–much like Guardians of the Galaxy last summer–some viewers will not be completely blind entering the theater come 2019.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has already introduced the hybrid race of superhumans on the small screen, planting the seeds for their big screen debut and a potential plot thread. While season 2 of the series pit Agent Coulson and Co. against said superhumans, season 3 will see them team-up as part of the ‘Secret Warriors’ storyline. Skye (Chloe Bennet), a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and fellow Inhuman, herself, will serve as the leader of the team and head the search for other members of her race. At the same time, the character will also fully transform into her comic book counterpart, Daisy Johnson a.k.a. Quake.

The actress recently sat down with IGN to discuss this transformation in depth and the ramifications it will have for the upcoming season. While the identity shift has not been too difficult or “weird” for her – explaining that the “haircut and the new wardrobe [help]” – Bennett did address the split fan reaction regarding her character’s change.

I think once they see her in the setting, she’s different but she’s as much different as Skye in Season 1 was from Skye in Season 2. She’s just more that way. She’s slowly transitioning. The short hair definitely — people really liked my long hair. So did I, but we wanted to… She’s kind of no nonsense now and shorter hair makes more sense for that.

With a new hairdo, costume, and sense of authority, Daisy will assume a much more “mature” role in season 3 and transition from a mentee of Coulson’s to a “co-worker” – one who he feels he can trust. But the question still remains, how will she deal with her divided loyalty between the Inhumans and S.H.I.E.L.D.? Bennett played coy on this discord, but did tease that her character will serve as a bridge between both sides.

I just had a long scene today where I’m talking about that and I can’t tell you about it. [Laughs] She’s as loyal to the Inhumans as she is to SHIELD. But she’s really about making them work together. It’s about making it a collaborative effort.

Indeed, both sides will need to work together considering the new wave of threats coming their way, including HYDRA – which, of course, was never truly defeated – and rogue Inhumans. And in the wake of the season two finale, in which the ancient Kree weapon absorbs Agent Jemma Simmons, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could also be paving the way toward future interaction with the Kree – and even the Skrulls.

During the interview, Bennett also revealed that she does know what happens to Simmons’ character despite not having a script yet; however, she did not expect it.

I didn’t guess it. I was like “Oh, okay, we’re going there. That’s happening!”

Wherever “there” is, fans can certainly expect a continued, darker trajectory. Season 2 brought in more complex plot points and themes that – while not completely withdrawn into the gritty corner of the MCU like Daredevil – helped distinguish it from its preceding round. And speaking of Daredevil, Bennet even addressed the question of whether or not any healthy competition exists between the Marvel shows – and whether or not scenes like the hallway fight in Daredevil fuel the competition flames.

I actually haven’t seen the other Marvel shows because we’ve been working so much on this show. But, I have heard of that thing — we didn’t know about that and we just wanted to do something really cool. It wasn’t even written in the script, that one take shot [of Skye fighting in “The Dirty Half Dozen”] … We put in the hours, not getting paid and just did it for fun and it paid off, I think. I did break my arm, during that take, on camera. And then I had to finish the season with a broken arm and do all of the rest of the fight sequences with a broken arm.

Judging by fan and critical reaction, it definitely paid off, and here’s hoping Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. continues that breakneck (or breakarm?) momentum in season 3 – especially with Inhumans growing closer and closer to the big screen.

Season 3 of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres Tuesday, September 29 at 9:00 PM ET on ABC. Agent Carter will air season 2 in early 2016. Daredevil is currently available on Netflix. Jessica Jones premieres in Fall 2015, followed by Luke Cage and Daredevil season 2 in 2016.

Is Agent Melinda May looking at a career change in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3? Actress Ming-Na Wen is hinting at as much. It seems that, after the Hydra reveal of Season 1 and the introduction of the Inhumans in Season 2, May isn’t entirely sure that her heart is with S.H.I.E.L.D. any longer.

"In any situation when someone is so devoted to their work as May was, but then realizing over the last two years that S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't really what she dedicated her life to," Wen tells TVGuide.com. "That there was definitely a lot of corruption to S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as uncertainty now with the Inhumans being brought in by Coulson. It's going to be figuring out her final decision in Season 3 and I think Andrew will probably play a part in it."

The events of Season 2 brought May and her estranged husband, Andrew Garner (Blair Underwood), back together. Ironically, this also brought Garner back to S.H.I.E.L.D., an organizations he had left on poor terms.

Marvel’s Mockingbird Series Starring Adrianne Palicki Lands ABC Pilot Order

Despite putting a halt on the “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” spinoff, which was proposed earlier this year, ABC is closing in on a deal to order a pilot for a project centered around Mockingbird, Variety has learned exclusively.

Titled “Marvel’s Most Wanted,” the drama will focus on popular “SHIELD” characters Adrianne Palicki‘s Bobbi Morse (also known as Mockingbird) and Nick Blood’s Lance Hunter. The two actors will topline the pilot and prospective series.

“SHIELD” producers Jeffrey Bell and Paul Zbyszewski co-created the project for Marvel and ABC Studios, co-writing the pilot. They will serve as showrunners and exec producers together with Marvel’s head of television Jeph Loeb also exec producing.

Insiders say the series is not a spinoff, per se, but rather an entirely new project solely focused on the two characters to continue their story. Though plot details are scarce at this point, “Marvel’s Most Wanted” will follow the pair and their adventures together.

At this time, ABC has not made any decisions regarding premiere date or a path of introduction, such as introducing the new show as a planted episode during “SHIELD.”

An “Agents of SHIELD” offshoot was originally reported in April, but was soonafter shot down with the network deciding not to move forward. However, during New York Upfronts this spring, ABC president Paul Lee alluded to the possibility of the series being resurrected, teasing, “It certainly is a possibility of spinning them off.”

Lee added that “SHIELD” had hit its creative strive, suggesting that the net didn’t want to mess around with a formula that was working — which includes Palicki and Blood’s storylines. “We absolutely love those characters on ‘SHIELD,'” he said, at the time.

But with “SHIELD” coming back for Season 3, in addition to “Agent Carter” returning for Season 2, there’s still a large Marvel appetite at ABC. Also in the works at the network, is a top-secret Marvel project helmed by “American Crime” creator John Ridley.

Matt Willig Cast As Lash in Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

williglash-149053.jpg

Marvel Entertainment has revealed that actor Matt Willig will play the Inhuman character Lash in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. third season.

It was revealed earlier this summer that Lash, one of the newest Inhumans in the Marvel Comics Universe, would join the ABC series in some capacity, with Marvel TV Head Jeph Loeb simply teasing that he was “coming.”

And now, we know whose face will go under all that Inhuman makeup. Willig is a former NFL football player, who’s filled a number of minor action-heavy roles in film and television. His resume includes Cold Case, Chuck, NCIS, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Year One, and We’re The Millers.

Lash was created in 2014's Inhuman #1 by writer Charles Soule and artist Joe Madureira. A hulking beast of an Inhuman, Lash hails from Orollan, a hidden city of Inhumans who believe the bloodline - and those who get exposed to the Terrigen Mists - must be kept pure (somewhat similar to the city of Inhumans in season 2 of the show). Strong and agile, Lash also has the ability to absorb and expel energy.

Marvel has not revealed when Willig will appear on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., though with the "Secret Warriors" tag and the idea that Skye will be out looking for other powered people (including Inhumans), he debut shouldn’t be too far along.

The full lead sheet reads below:

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” returns for an action-packed third season, with Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Agent Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) leading the charge as S.H.I.E.L.D. searches the world for more powered people in the aftermath of their epic battle with Jiaying and her army of Inhumans. However, Coulson and the team soon find out that they are not the only group looking for these new Inhumans.

Many months after their war with a rogue group of Inhumans, the team is still reeling. Coulson is again trying to put the pieces of his once revered organization back together while also dealing with the loss of his hand. His confidante and second in command, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), has yet to return from an impromptu vacation with ex-husband Andrew (Blair Underwood); deadly superspy Agent Bobbi Morse (Adrianne Palicki) is recovering from her traumatic torture at the hands of Grant Ward (Brett Dalton); Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) is obsessed with discovering the truth behind the mysterious disappearance of Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge); and all are on high-alert for the next move from Ward and Hydra.

Ever since the existence of Super Heroes and aliens became public knowledge after the Battle of New York, the world has been trying to come to grips with this new reality. Coulson assembled a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division). S.H.I.E.L.D.’s mission: to protect those who cannot protect themselves from threats they cannot conceive.

But bigger threats loom ahead, setting the stakes even higher for the Agents, including the spread of Terrigen, an alien substance that unlocks superhuman abilities in select individuals; the emergence of new Inhumans who cannot yet control nor understand their powers; the rise of a new government organization that will go toe-to-toe with S.H.I.E.L.D.; the unknown properties of the massive alien Kree monolith, which has taken one of their own; and the constant threat of a rebuilt Hydra terrorist organization under S.H.I.E.L.D. traitor Grant Ward, who is making it his personal mission to take down Coulson and S.H.I.E.L.D.

New faces, both friend and foe, will join the series, including the no-nonsense, highly-skilled and somewhat mysterious leader (Constance Zimmer) of the ATCU (Advanced Threat Containment Unit), her intimidating partner, Banks (Andrew Howard), Lash (Matthew Willig), a monstrous Inhuman whose loyalties remain ambiguous, and new Inhuman Joey (Juan Pablo Raba), who is struggling to harness his newfound abilities, among other surprising characters.

Coulson, with the help of Daisy and Mack (Henry Simmons), will work to slowly assemble a team that is stronger than ever before, combining the highly skilled Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. with powered individuals in the hopes of protecting the innocent in a world where the balance of power is ever-shifting, and new dangers are constantly emerging.
“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” stars Clark Gregg as Director Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Brett Dalton as Grant Ward, Chloe Bennet as Agent Daisy Johnson, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, Nick Blood as Agent Lance Hunter, Adrianne Palicki as Agent Bobbi Morse, Henry Simmons as Agent Alphonso “Mack” MacKenzie and Luke Mitchell as Lincoln Campbell.

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” was co-created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, who also serve as executive producers along with Jeph Loeb and Jeffrey Bell. “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television, and is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC’s selected HDTV format, with 5.1-channel surround sound.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season Three premieres September 29 at 9:00 on ABC.

:hmm::hmm::hmm::hmm::hmm::hmm::hmm:

they hell bent on giving them two a show

Yeah, idk if it's such a good idea with just them but you never know what kinds of tie-ins they're gonna have with the MCU. Shit is getting complicated.

Agreed...

It would essentially be the first season of SHIELD

on some bounty hunter vibe

COULD Work INTRODUCING LESSER KNOWN Characters.

How come the cooler the outfit the cooler the powers, while the more generic the powers the more generic the putfit… .

:yes::yes::yes::yes:

quiet is kept I didn't even notice May wasn't there.

 I knew something was missing, but I couldn't figure it what.
I completely failed to realize that May hasn't there.

On a side note: I hate that they're calling Skye, Daisy now. Daisy is such a boring white bitch name.
