Official HP TouchPad Tablet Thread (just getting ready!)

If and when the touchdroid drops, i don't even think i'm going to root it. I said before that unless it's a dual boot, I won't do it, but even with a dual boot, I feel the hardware will be working extra hard to emulate Android and thus cause the battery to take a hit and not work as well as it currently does. I keep my TP on/on standby and I only charge every few days and it has power. I fear that when the touchdroid root drops, the battery power won't be as long lasting.

I fear that as well but since it will be a dual boot, isnt it possible to operate 1 os at a time so that the battery last longer?

Initially, But as they improve the ROM's they always even out. Those dudes at XDA are sick with it. All the same, I just put mine on Craigslist for $250 w/ Case and some Bobo beats headphones. If I get someone to Bite I'm gonna jump on a used Xoom. This OS is too restrictive for my tastes.
Don't get me wrong, even at $200 it's a great deal and works well. but when you get down to it, WebOS is the worst of both IOS and Android. Restrictive OS and Limited APP market.

Ya...I'll play around w/ it some more today but I'm already thinking sell while it's hot...I might be able to even get someone to pay exactly what I paid for it even tho it's open...I was really disappointed w/ the ereader...I'll try the comic reader before I make my decision...the iPad has really fuckin spoiled my expectations...I don't need a whole bunch of apps...but when I looked to see if there was an alternative ereader the selection was pretty slim...

Ya that's realistic...when I rooted my Pandigital Novel to run Droid battery life decreased...granted the Touchpad is a diff beast so who knows

could it be how epub was formatted, i've read 3 books already with absolutely
no issues. got my comics on there too. a bunch of pdfs.

my only issue is that you can't download pdfs via the web browser. so i have
to copy them from the pc.

this is my first tablet device and i've read more books/magazines in
3 weeks than i can remember.

Na...it shows up straight in iBooks...plus I miss the convenience of swiping a page

This shit is great as a 1st tablet...I'm not knocking the tablet...esp. if you got it for $99-$149...shit even around $200...my shit is I've had an iPad for over a year now...so there are several lil things re: the OS/specific apps that I've gotten accustomed to that make me very critical of other tablets...and ya you will do a gang of reading now...I've dled over $3000 worth of comics since I got my 1st tablet...so the heavy price tag I paid doesn't bother me as much...and I won't even get started on the amount of books I have...I won't be able to read all of them during this lifetime

Is there any way to import epubs/pdfs into the Kindle app or to import multiple books @ the same time to the pReader app...it's looking like I'm keep this lil bad boy for a sec

I found out why I was receiving the weird format where some letters/punctuation marks were being replaced by weird symbols...I had to change the encoding from CP-1252 (Latin) to UTF-8

Also there's no page swipe but you can tap anywhere on the screen to go to the next page or back...I thought you could only use the directional arrows on the bottom...it's weird tho...it doesn't work left to right but top to bottom...tap anywhere on the top half of the screen to go back a page and tap anywhere on the bottom half to advance a page...I wish I was a software dev...

For what I use it for, the "lack of apps" doesn't bother me....I use it primarily as a comic reader, web browser and for playing a few simple games...webOS, is by far my favorite and the most stable OS I have used between IOS, (my brothers iPad 2) Android (my phone) and webOS (my TP)......it has NEVER frozen or crashed on me...EVER.

Yeah, there are a shit load of apps on IOS and Android, but how many apps do you really use on a daily basis?

No disagreement here...WEBos is really stable and smooth. I'm a tinkerer and a geek at heart so I love being able to rip open an OS and make changes to every little thing. For example, I can't wait to make my Xoom look like this...

That's why Android works for me but it's Not a knock on the touchpad. I bought my girl a one also and its perfect for her. My only real knocks is
A.
I was kinda disappointed with the battery life. My battery died watching movies on a 5 hour flight to L.A. and I was expecting at least 8 hours in airplane mode.
B.
The 1.3 Megapixel camera in 2011 is just sad...

Did you have it on full brightness? That plays a huge role in battery life...ya the Droid OS is fun as hell for customizing ya home screen

I got Preware on...shit was easy...I musta been really tired yesterday...shit took a few secs...I can get ComicShelf free now

Not true at all. Comics show up without a restart, after you have preware loaded. Once you install preware, any worries will be erased.

I have Preware loaded and it just happened...I added a comic via usb...had to restart the Touchpad for it to show up...maybe it's diff if you dl a comic from the net :dunno: comic page is taking long to show up too...gotta play around w/ this some more

Thanks...comics show up straight man...I had to reboot it tho each time I add some via usb...the shit is cool man...it's still some minor things I'm not happy w/ only bcuz as I've said the iPad has spoiled me...but for $200 tho I'm chillin...if HP contact me since I on they mailing list then I will just cop another 1 for $99 and then flip it so I get back my $$$ and even out...actually fuck it...all the movies and comics and books and games I get for free I not gonna bitch over an extra $100...this shit is cool for around the house and shit and I can "reserve" the iPad for when I traveling or w/e

has anyone downloaded webos doctor?

My tablet updated fine out the box and I have had no issues (other then the hbogo recently) do i NEED to download webos doctor

El Pirate...if it makes you feel better I took back my iPad 2 today...my brief time w/ the Touchpad has spoiled me as well...the iOS is boring and restrictive...too much so...I just couldn't deal w/ the lack of Flash...after plunking down $500+ for it...of course none of this is new but having the Touchpad just made me hate the fact a lil bit more...in an ideal world I wish I coulda had the Touchpad for $99 and combine that w/ the app library of the iPad...best of both worlds...when the iPad was the only tab on the market I got it cuz I needed something to hold me down when I was traveling...a year later not much progress in the tab game and the whole thing is just overrated...none of the tablets including the iPad has ever given me what I really wanted...still waiting for a Windows-based tablet that operates like a laptop/netbook but in the new tablet form...not them old slabs from before...also I wonder if there's $$$ in a dedicated comic book reader like ereaders...the iPad + Comiczeal is great for reading comics but @ $500 ppl are not gonna spend that just to read comics...I don't have the $$$ or resources to even know where to start but I'd love to see someone come up w/ a dedicated comic book reader...anyway I'm out the tab game until exactly what I want comes out/is released...and yes I had the iPad 2...mods can confirm that yesterday I made a couple of posts using the Dolphin HD browser  iPad + Samsung Galaxy + HP Touchpad + iPad 2...and now none

I know I may sound like I'm flip flopping but the tablet game has always been meh to me...the only reason why I fucked w/ the iPad was cuz it was the only joint that was out when I needed some entertainment to last me during a 7 hr wait @ the airport...and it grew on me...it was like settling for a bitch cuz there was no others around...but right now all these "bitches" is looking wack to me

I agree... but for $100 this TP bitch is a keeper

Since the webosbuzz site is down, I thought I'd share the EA Battleship game link that I found with you all. It's a great game if you have multiple touchpads on the same network. The link is lurker proof, so you all know what to do.

Thanks for the info. Until it is back up, I'll continue to share the links that I find to different apps. I've found a couple more EA game apps.
Scrabble - Lurker Proof Link: [Hide]http://megaupload.com/?d=6HYNQDSL[/Hide]
Connect 4 - Lurker Proof Link: [Hide]http://megaupload.com/?d=W8Y05MSP[/Hide]
I've tested all 3 games, these 2 plus Battleship, on my touchpad and can verify that they all work. Connect 4 plays in the phone emulator mode, but it is still pretty decent. I have 2 touchpads in my house and my young son enjoys playing Battleship and Connect 4 against me.

you don't have the file that allows you to run palm phone games on a fullscreen TP?

I don't. What do I need? I'll search the web and see what I can find. I never even thought about it. I don't have very many phone apps on my TP.
