Official HP TouchPad Tablet Thread (just getting ready!)

Ever since the (now) affordable HP TouchPads have hit the market, people have been trying to their best to get Android ported to one of these bad boys. There’s even a $1,500 bounty for anyone that can get working versions of the OS onto the TouchPad. Now a few videos have surface from users who claim to have it already up and running on HP’s bastard tablet.

The first comes to us from a user on YouTube who claims he will not only have Android 2.3 Gingerbread up and running on his HP TouchPad, but also provide a video tutorial on how others can make it happen on August 24th. That’s not all, he also claims to have Android 3.0 Honeycomb running on the TouchPad by August 26th. I remain skeptical seeing how the source for Honeycomb hasn’t been released but it’s hard to deny anything with such an epic music score in his teaser trailer.

Our next video comes to us from a user on YouTube who claims his coworker’s HP TouchPad shipped with Android 2.2.1 pre-installed and he’s looking for answers. They have no idea how it wound up like but in the video you see a boot logo for QuIC otherwise known as, Qualcomm Innovation Center. Wait- so this is Qualcomm’s doing?! The plot thickens…

Interests are definitely piquing with the internet’s attempt at getting Android onto this failed tablet with some pretty great hardware. I for one have bought into the HP TouchPad hype (it could make a great stocking stuffer) and am currently scouring the internets in hopes of finding one. What do you guys think? Could these videos be legit?

uh its not bad its not laggy and works fine for me smh once you start customizing it it gets better but out of the box it was cool and WELL WORTH THE PRICE thanks

I swear if I can get my hands on these, I'm buying @ least 10. Peep Craigslist and eBay. If you invest 100, I guarantee you can get @ least 250 for them. 150 x 10 = 1500 profit!

:dance::dance::dance:

Worst case scenerio...sell them for 200 if the demand isn't there.

I was actually looking at that Coby tablet online today. Im also considering the Archos 101, but I'll probably just wait for black friday

Just got mine in the mail the other day. Gonna try out these tweaks. My Iconia Tab is on the backburner - for now

I've had mine for a little over a week now and I'm loving it. I've converted about 15 DVDs and loaded them to the Touchpad. I've installed some homebrew apps and tweaked it to make it faster. And I've overclocked it from 1.2GHz to 1.7GHz. If anyone is interested, most of the instructions are here and it is all fairly simple to do (enter at your own risk however): http://forums.precentral.net/hp-touchpad/293028-new-touchpad-heres-your-get-started-guide.html

^more on this fam:yes:

It's pretty simple. There is a few threads about how to do it on the precentral.net touchpad forums. Check out the link I posted and scroll down to the screen capture from the movie Wall-E.

i haven't tried to mod mines yet and I am VERY HAPPY...

all i have done is updated it and ALREADY i see a difference.

but I will try this weekend

has anyone had any issues doing the modifications????

Mine was hanging up every once in a while when I had it overclocked to 1.7Ghz. I brought it down to 1.5Ghz and now everything is running smoothly. Other than that, I haven't had any issues with any of the other mods that I've made.

Holding down the power button doesn't prompt for shutdown. you
have to go thru devices/reset options or hold down the power button
and the button that minimizes the window for 15secs

What video file formats does it play? Mine comes in a few days and I'm trying to know ahead of time.

Out of the box it will only play mp4 video. There are players in the app store and in the homebrew library that can play other formats. The app store video player will cost you. The homebrew video player is free.

is there a Kindle app for touchpad? Book app or whatever you wanna call it.

Pirate, what movie you use? I thought I heard you say you play .mkv files on ya touchpad what do I need for that?
