if you finish that
3 months in the academy (probie school)
2 months of EMT
6 months as a probationary firefighter....
but hell for 44,301 as of the first day with no college
But i ask u this if u scared dont become one cause alot of ppl on this job is scared of fire and get others hurt. And if u dont want to be a EMT dont come to DCFD cause u will be on the Amb too as well as Engine and truck

He could have taken a 3 inch lead and put it under the car.Might have taken the same amount of time as it took to smash the windows and pull it through the car.Dude just wanted to be on some cowboy shit.He has calmed down alot since then though.
How big is the department?...how many members?...can't imagine not being unionized.This is a job that really needs a union...
we got about 50 people left. the city council, mayor, and city manager just closed 2 of our 5 stations and laid off 49 people about 2 months ago due to the city being 4 million in the hole.
only 6 monthes as a probie....?
in NYC its almost 18 monthes....
anyway...just took my entry exam with Washington DC Fire Department...still waiting my results...i heard they are doing a mass hiring over there....
less than 1500 ppl took the exam...
....I'm waiting for the next step...I also have a CPAT test with another Dept on the 20th of sept....
most dept's here on the east I notice have age cut offs...while in the west I've heard of cats being 50 and getting a badge....
most cut off ages over here are from 32-35....depending on your city/state...etc....
Damn....that's messed up....

In Boston it was fought for 1&3...one officer,and three firefighters must be on a truck.Some towns do 1&2...but Boston 1&3,which is what our union fought for.Which of course,leads to more jobs,more overtime...
All so,they can't fuck with you as much...
The only time in 20 plus years I came close to being put in on charges...I was backed up by my union rep.
I knew I was right,and within my union guidelines...so I could tell the ass-hole captain to go fuck himself,in a nice way.

It is because of the union that we worked the shifts we did with all the time off,vacations,increases in pay,better equipment and on and on...
Without a union someone could order you to do something you weren't cool with.
As I said,they could also fuck with you...if you had an ass-hole ahead of you in rank.Maybe he would give your O.T. to his buddy,maybe you would get your vacation in October instead of June...
Actually,because of your union you have a paid vacation.
Maybe you have seniority over someone,but they keep changing your group instead of his.
Can't do any of those things because of your union...
Because of your union,you have unlimited sick/injury time....
Fall and break your leg off the job...your covered,months,a year later you go back to work having still collected your paycheck.
Break your leg on the job,goldmine!!!!!...now your pay is tax-free while off duty.It's like you got a pay-raise.
Also...while you are off,you still collect holiday pay...every firefighter in Beantown gets an extra holiday check,whether he works it or not...believe there were 18 holidays.
I remember December was a good month...you got the Thanksgiving holiday check in,Christmas and New Years coming...and to top it off,a clothing check also.
All even if you messed your knee up playing ball...like me.

A holiday check was equal to a day's pay...or 1/4 of your weekly salary.
Yeah,injured leave was a good thing,much better than sick leave.
Both you get paid,but no taxes is a good thing...
So while you are trying to get on one of these departments...check all that out,if you have a choice...all the bennys.I'm sure it varies from town to town,city to city.

Naw.....nepotism got all the whites/italians in there b4...the resident shit was to make it more muti-cultural......too many whites getting on that never even lived in the city.....when I took the test...you could apply for spots all over the state...and ahd to be a resident when accepting the job...but the white boys still found outs by using some ones grandmas address from when the city used to be mostly white.....had one white boy...he's a deputy chief now...
....say how he remembered growing up in my city...bitch didn't even know where police HQ was when he had to get fingerprinted b4 hiring...it's only been there like 90 years.......but they still get over....I got friends on the job that live in the Poconos even thoi they have to be state residents to work for the fire department......now you have to be a resident for the city that ur taking the test for and show viable bills..gas/electric/telephone in your name for your residence....
