is it hard to become a captain...what training do you need to be considered?

what do they do?

Study groups with others on ur department taking the test.......get an FMBA newspaper from ur state and you'll see plenty of courses that usually charge at least $350-600 or more for them...trust me they're worth it....management experience helps a lot also...

What do they do????...nothing:lol::lol:they hold the light, and tell you where to rake:lol:

Actually,I worked with some captains who would carry a tool just like everyone else.
I also worked with a guy who was garbage...I recall,me and another guy working our way into an attic to vent. After we smashed out some windows,we stick our head out to get some fresh air...and he is down there directing traffic.
Talk about a true piece of trash...he was about the least respected man on the job.But....he studied well. Not so coincidently,he was the one who tried to bring charges on me...which were laughed away by the chief and me.

let me ask you guys a question....

the difference between a Flashover and Backdraft....do they happen often...?

which is more dangerous....ever been caught in one....

Backdraft or flashover...hmmm,not sure.I believe it's just terminology, but that question is probably on the captain's test:lol:

And yeah,it is a dangerous situation.

I have seen windows blow out of buildings, cars and so on...so yeah,flash-overs/backdrafts do happen. It's all about ventilation...because that is what a backdraft is,a build-up of heat and gases, until it flashes over,or explodes.
You vent to release those things before they build up and push out.
That's why windows are smashed and holes chopped in roofs...

So now this ass-bucket wants his job back....

http://news.bostonherald.com/news/regional/general/view/2008_09_06_Fired_BFD_inspector_asks_board_for_job_back/srvc=home&position=6

Shithead made 104 grand last year, was not even an officer...and didn't even have to do fire duty.
When I think how hard we had to work to get on the job,and how hard it was for us in the early days...this motherfucker pisses me off.
In fact, the gig he has was reserved for white men even after we got on.

He was in uniform,in a department car...smoking weed with his buddies.

Yeah....I bet his dumb ass would like his cushy 100K job back...fuck him.
:smh::smh::smh:

whats good. Props on this thread as I was studying for the written test and thought I'd check out bgol as I knew there had to be something on here about firefighting. I live in Tacoma and plan on testing for all the available surrounding Tacoma and Seattle. Seattle starts off in the high 50's but is no joke getting into. I'm also thinking about trying for some cities down in the Bay area. This may be a stupid question but do you have to travel to different cities to take their tests or do they sometimes have some sort of national testing agencies that test locally for deparments outside of your city?

I don't know if they have a National Testing Agency....

I live in NYC I find out about entry exams in other cities and I just travel down there....I guess thats what they want....

I've tested in these Dept's so far:
FDNY
Washington DC
Prince William County, VA

and I will be testing with these Dept's later in the year or '09:
Montgomery County, MD
Baltimore, MD
Annapolis, MD
Fairfax County, VA
Loudon, VA

I'm also considering Los Angeles, CA....thats a huge maybe...all dept's I know require you to come to the city and do your examination...

maybe other brothas that are in the service know more...

are you considering LAFD?
good pay and they are always hiring...

Yeah I might have to check that LAFD out. Thats a stretch just to take a test though. I can drive to the Bay but gotta fly to LA. Might be worth it. Good lookin out. Bout to get my study on now. How much study time you put in before the tests? I'm not to worried about the CPAT as I stay in pretty good shape.

do anyone know of any private non emergency medical transport businesses

looking to open a business doing this with one of the fellow brotha's at the house

he has everything draw out

says ill need to come in 40 g's for us to pull it off

what do yall think

gettin paid to haul around bed ridden old folks in the hood easy 500 buck trip

emt-b national required and under medical direction of the regional hospital

thats a nice idea...honestly if everything is legit...I would jump on it....

I reading some story the other day about a brotha that just did this....don't know what he makes...but I found it interesting and I'm curious....

would you do calls too...or hire EMT-B certified ppl to work for ya'll?

I usually hit the books a month B4 the test...I study all the way through 'till the test day.....I never failed doing this..I also get a variety of study guides...the variety helps me alot....

looking for more study guides hit me up...I got nice FF sites and great suggestions...

the CPAT is from what I know...pretty simple...like SYD said...if you play ball you should be fine...

they want more stamina and endurance then raw strength....hit the gym wieght room sometimes...but run your ass off...real talk...

also get a wieghted vest (70 lbs) and run/walk up staircases....

this may not be needed if your in great shape tho....

any more info on cities in CALI holla at me I have a list of all cities and DEPTS hiring out there....

good luck family....

we looking at the ill, bedridden, old timers,

in nj to provide the services all you need to be is a national emt basic

we wanna try it out in camden and the surrounding area where the paramedics stay tied up

but yea i need another hustle something to put my name on and watch grow

:smh:

I mean seriously on duty...what a fool...he doesn't deserve his shit back...104K gone for some weed....:smh:

So I was talking with a buddy of mine the other day about this guy....

Apparently he tested negative for drugs,so he wasn't smoking.
The story goes he was sitting in a department car in a restricted area, with his boys. The cops pull up...tell him he's blocking and ask him to move.
He says yeah, and they pull away...20 minutes later the cops pass again, and he was still there.
Cop gets out...smells weed...arrests the firefighter and his boys...104,000 down the drain.

Yeah,he is still a real dumb-ass...

now that you told me that the punishment seems excessive IMO....

Dope thread. I was planning on being a fire fighter too and I still might but right now, Im in school taking Fire Protection Engineering Technology. I'll get a job as a mechanical engineer in the fire fighting industry. Im thinking of going into the sprinkler system aspect of it but we;ll see. Theres so many job oppurtunities around the world, I cant wait til I finish up with this.

what school you go to....4 year degree?

I was looking thru some old pictures, and found this one of me in drill school doing the Pompier ladder.
A Pompier ladder as you can see is very thin...with a hook at the end of it.
They made us use this to climb six stories.

It works like this, you hook it into the floor above you, then straddle yourself in the window, and lift it to the floor above you...and continue, finally at the 6th floor you lock in and lean back.

This was done with no net or safety harness...

I assume it was done to test your upper body, fear of heights and your balls...

You guys ready???

Nice pic, just discovered this thread. Had me reminiscing on the 40 foot banger with stabilizer poles in fire 1. 7 yrs on, used this ladder a few times til it got beat too much. H

I believe he violated his 'code of conduct'....he was on duty,in uniform,in a department car....with unauthorized people who are doing drugs.

I have no sympathy for him at all....sorry I'm old school and can remember the not-so good old days.When....there were only a few black men on the job,and none certainly did not have the cushy job he had.

See....now when we lose a black firefighter in Boston like him,we lose that spot. The next firefighter hired to take his place among the ranks will be white. Most of the guys coming on now in Boston are white.
They go into the army,navy...and get those two extra points on their civil service exam.So even if you got 100...he go 102.

The new class coming on in Boston is 95% white. So as brothers keep fucking up,the department is inching back to what will be levels that were before me.

So this fool has hurt himself, his family, dishonored his job and his race.

I though most Firehouses avoid subjects like this? (race, religion etc...)
