As well as some others. The main difference is Bitcoin and other crypto currencies are for payments. This Ripple is for settlements between banks mainly. So one country wants to transfer money to another. With Ripple it can take 3.5 seconds because it is the medium that banks use. Unlike in the past, everything was hedged against the USD. Case in point how this is another step away from using fiat USD.

But still on the fence about this being any sort of investment for us because for the very reason of this being for transactions and settlements, they will be forced to keep it at an exact amount. I don't see how this will fluctuate.

Do you understand that you don't have to buy a full "coin"? You buy whatever you're paying for and it's a fraction.

Like a bitcoin, if you have $50 to purchase, then the fraction of a bitcoin is what you will be buying, for example .00732 of a bitcoin. That's not the current value, just showing you a number of how much you'd purchase.

Re-read the steps to buy....it says you can't buy XRP straight from USD. You have to buy XBT first and convert it to XRP
