***Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Thread***

It is not a fear of technology, but a fear of inequality and unfairness. This is a world wide sport, not a sport for the rich and powerful. Up to this point, FIFA has abided by a philosophy that ensures fairness; the changes to which you refer, such as the offside rule, the prohibition by the defence to kick the ball back to the keeper, did not confer and advantage to the rich leagues. As for the boots, what you wear on the legs makes no big difference; however, there are specifications for balls that those who engineer technology cannot manipulate at will. If they came up witha ball which cost $500, Fifa would not mandate it. So Nike is fucked, and the less of their money they waste, the better for every one.

This game is doing just fine. It popularity is unrivalled throughout the planet. It does not need anymore changes, it is just fine.

Black Limey, Do you think the FA has a racist attitude when it's solely focuses on white english players and ignores black talent?

cosign
Lalas sounds at times like a retard and a number of those commentating are just not knowledgeable about the game, yet they have mics and are really turning people off.

Final thoughts: in 2006 Ghana kicked out the U.S. In 2010 Ghana has done it again. A key reason for this is that Ghana has better players. In addition those who do their homework would know that Ghana is very passionate about soccer; approaching the Brazilian passion. Ghana has a better team than the U.S.

Before losing to Ghana the U.S. soccer analysts clearly indicated that they were confident about beating Ghana. After losing they are now crestfallen and wondering what is wrong with American soccer.

First and foremost the U.S. soccer powers are too arrogant. Secondly they did not do their homework to get the resume of Ghana. Also, bad calls are part of every single sport; including the NBA when the Lakers beat the Celtics recently. Yet we do not obsess over referee decisions. We all move on; except the American soccer experts who do not know and understand soccer and think that if the rules are changed then they can win and beat everyone. That is a lie. It is not changing the rules that will help the U.S.

Soccer rules have been around a long time and with time they will be modernized with time, just like many other sports. The U.S. has to develop the game the way other countries have. The U.S. has been in the soccer scene for 80 years! With all the money. still no results. Of course money is not the key to soccer.

Perhaps we can start by studying the history of the game and beginning to gain a new found respect for those who succeed in the game. World Cup success is not about the size of a nations GDP or the land size.

Well said!

If Glen Johnson is our best right back, we do certainly have a problem.

Its time to blood in some of the youngsters e.g. Ashley Young, Gabriel Agbonlahor, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Lennon. Get rid of some of our deadwood players Upson, Terry, Barry and Lampard. Its time to go.

How on earth Fabio did you play Upson, who played for West Ham who narrowly avoided relegation instead of Michael Dawson.

Why also did you not have the balls to drop Rooney, which everyone knows wasn't fit to play and was carrying a injury?

Emile Heskey......fucking why??????

Not really. I think personality and attitude is what the English FA tend to look at. Things have improved and you can see more brothers representing England at the international level. However, it seems that the white players get more props

Jermain Defoe stepped up when it mattered. But all you heard about was 'Rooney this and Rooney that.

Wilshere is the only one that seems to play with some ingenuity, he can thank his Arsenal upbringing for that. Lennon can be a threat at times but like Ashley Young his end prodcut can be shocking. Abonglahor literally has nothing else apart from his pace. I do agree that England need new blood, but lets be real the majority of the names totuted have yet to show at their club teams that they can make the step up.

Just took a peek @ my bracket, still alive. Tho :smh: @ thinking France would have advanced from the group and England would make the semis.

Riggz is top in the group though.

When Sven was there, it seemed like he was picking people on reputation rather than performance. I thought Fabio would be different. Same old over rated, tried and failed players

Frank Lampard has now played 2 world cup and done fuck all. Gareth Barry was not fit, Rooney was not fit. Upson??? Look where his team finished. As for Heskey..........you just know that they said to Rooney. Who would you like as a strike partner?

Time to bring in the young and hungry players who have some fire in their belly

That's a fair point. But if you don't start to blood in the youngsters, where are the next generation going to come from? The problems seems to be that they are not being given the chance to shine at their clubs. In the premiership only 35% of players are english. With odds like that what chance does any youngster have in progressing.

The whole Gerrard & Lampard thing makes no sense they both do the same job so why do England managers continue to play both of them? and then ask one of them to curb their natural instincts, when has Lampard ever been a CM?

True, I blame the FA for that in the bid to make the Premiership the 'best in the world' they have cut youth development off at the knees. There needs to be a quota on the number of home grown players in club squads.

That fool could've gotten more play out of Jack Wilshire..Theo...David Bentley (yeah I like him), hell half of Arsenal's, Aston Villa, Blackburn, Man U's, and Chelsea reserve teams than he did out of those old worn out grumpy old men that played for the lions..what an absolute disgrace by Capello...I MEAN FOR CHRIST'S SAKE MY MAN who just signed with Everton...Jermaine Beckford he's 27 and seasoned...I was disgusted w/ Capello..shame on him :angry::smh::smh:

I know there's talk about Cesc heading to the Nou..but I think if this lad steps in we could very well be good to go..some players just have "It" and Jack is clearly no excpetion

Where does all the english talent thats scouted for youth teams liek Chelsea, united and the rest go? What bout the Under 21 , I have seen some talented brothers with some potential there. It seems most of the youth talent just disappears into oblivion, if most of the talent were backed like the way overrated rooney is then who knows. If the FA took the Germna football associations approach to grooming young talent the english team would be a formidable force. Most of the german team are very you and yet look how good they play way better than seasoned veterans.

Man I'll go further..I've seen some grade a talent in The Damn Coca-Coca Championship....it's the same here with the USL in America...England has to go back to basics and the US needs to start promoting "U-17" players to their men's NT...I looked and saw half the team was near 30 and that's unacceptable.

Paraguay Girl, Larissa Riquelme, Will Shed What Little Clothing She Wears If Team Wins Cup

So this girl has turned into living, breathing, boob-heaving monster. Paraguay defeated Japan on PKs and the world seems more interested in the possibility of her disrobing (which she often does) than if her country miraculously wins the World Cup.
Yes, Requilme is reveling in the extra attention and SEO juice her cell phone-stuffed tank top has received, and now she has promised, like fellow exhibitionist and Jemele Hill pick-up artist Diego Maradona, that if her country wins she will streak through the dirty streets in red, white, and blue body paint. So there's that. And every single newspaper in the world appears to have a photo gallery of her on their page. This is one of the most comprehensive ones.

I understand that but its his job to unearth talent too. I mean to hell with what Skysports and MOTD says...go find players that want to play
