with all the controversy with the refs i have 2 questions

1-who governs them or chose THESE refs
2-what does it mean for future world cups and other leagues? will instant replay be involved ,etc

Larrionda, Rosetti left off Cup list

JOHANNESBURG -- Uruguay's Jorge Larrionda and Italy's Roberto Rosetti, whose blunders have prompted FIFA to rethink using video technology, have been left off the list of referees for the rest of the World Cup.

Larrionda failed to see an England shot cross the line in a 4-1 loss to Germany, and Rosetti wrongly awarded a goal to Argentina's Carlos Tevez against Mexico when he was offside.

Without giving reasons, FIFA announced the cut Tuesday.

Two more left out were Koman Coulibaly of Mali, who disallowed a third United States goal in a 2-2 draw with Slovenia, and French ref Stephane Lannoy, who harshly sent off Brazil's Kaka for a second yellow after Ivory Coast's Kader Keita ran into him while going for the ball.

FIFA and FIFA

I'm not even making a joke, FIFA handles #1 and if you want the answer to #2 you gotta talk to FIFA.

FIFA is making MLB look good with they way they handle shit.

FIFA has a committee that selects the referees that will participate in the World Cup. The criteria is unknown, but one would like to assume it's performance based off the number of games refereed, and quality of the individuals officiating.

Given the recent blunders with Rosetti, Coualiy, etc, FIFA will have to sit down and reassess this process in order to have a better overall experience as far as the officials are concerned.

Two best refs in the world right now IMO are...

England's Howard Webb

and Sweden's Massimo Busacca

With these two, you almost always forget there's a referee on the field.

This ref today has been alright, he's let play go on, kept the cards in the pocket so far......he's doing a good job so far in my book.

Edit: Howard Webb is THAT ref

lol its like the refs think people paid to see them instead of the actual players.

this is why i stopped watching the world cup. not just cause u.s. lost  but i was actually rooting for brazil.who knows if the fix is in.

and if a ref comes out after the world cup and blows the whistle (no pun intended) on a fix, what then?

What about the ref who kicked the South African keeper out of the Uruguay game? Africans need to make noise. What about the ref who left Luis Fabiano handle the ball twice?

Agreed. Fuckery. Absolute fuckery. Africans need to speak up and fight these injustices.
