***Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Thread***

How do you figure this?

If you can broadcast a match, you have replay. It's not rocket science. Every country in the world has the ability to broadcast matches, even the poorer countries like an El Salvador, or a Madagascar. Two countries I have been to myself, they have the ability to broadcast football with full on replays for their audiences.

You are speaking from the confines and the comfort of a rich country. 90% of the games in poor countries not broadcast. Who is going to pay for the TV equipment, the airtime and the camera men? There was a country in West Africa where they were playing on the beach because they could not afford a stadium. In America, they have high school American rugby games broadcast over tv. This does not happen for 95% of pro football games in Africa...If you introduced goal line technology, the rich countries like America, which can place a webcam on every net, will become adept at taking advantage of the technology.

Have you ever asked yourself how players from South America or the US, sometimes seem to have such good kicking technique, and yet, it is not uncommon for Africans who may have superior dribbling technique to kick the ball straight? It is because most us grew up playing home made balls, rolled from twine and old newspaper, and never got to perfect our skills on bouncing balls.

You look at Brazilians flicking the ball as if it is glued to their feet..that familiarity arises from having a regulation ball to play with all your life, which some people do not have...

What's sickening is the hypocrisy involved with FIFA. If you fear technology, that's fine. I have no gripes about this. If you're scared, you're scared. But don't in turn allow Nike, and Adidas to revolutionize the sport because that's what's happened and it's removed any consistency from Blatter's argument.

Nike and Adidas have revolutionized the game. Lighter boots, aerodynamic footballs, all equal technology. If the heads at FIFA fear this so much, stop allowing players to wear $400 boots that are scientifically engineered by Nike. Stop allowing Adidas to revolutionize their footballs. Let the world play in old leather boots, and allow goalkeepers no gloves.

This would be consistency.

Blatter's argument is hypocrisy. :smh:

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the world's most popular sport is suffering at the hands of traditional values and living in the dark ages.

There was a time where there were no penalty kicks. No substitutions were allowed. The ball could be played back to the keeper, and he was allowed to use his hands. Things change, life changes, and football changes.

But for the moment the argument is pointless because Blatter has world football in a stronghold. People like him who are set in their ways have a limited view on things, and that's that.

The beautiful part about this is that nobody lives forever. His reign will end sooner or later, and football will at least be given the chance to open it's door to newer ideas.

Those changes were made to open up the game and allow more scoring.

If South Africa can spend 4.6 billion on a World Cup, they can have their games broadcasted with replays. And even if some games are not broadcasted, a system needs to be put in place to where important competitions are given video replay.

Was hoping japan would win.

too bad though, dude missed the penalty shot will be remembered for the wrong reason.

The 4.6 billions South Africa spent on the World Cup is the GNP of some whole African countries.. South Africa is not representative of Africa is so far as its standard of living is concerned. .

I never root for the Spanish national team, but it does have a bunch of Barca players and Portugal has Ronaldo so...

Spain it is.

Fuck both Spain and Portugal. They are South European countries which are equally racist. As you know, the most racist white people tend to be the ones whose whiteness is in question. The ones who are the most white, ie, the Dutch, Norwegians, Swedes, even the Nazi, tend to not worry. But the one who know they have black blood feel the need to hate, and thus demonstrate their whiteness. So fuck all of them, I hope they play to 10-10 draw, and go through 10 rounds of penalties until tomorrow morning.

Interesting about the first part in bold actually..that is no coincidence

and :lol: at the last part

It's funny cause like you said, FIFA fear the "elimination of the human element."

FIFA are apparently under the ridiculous impression that if you allow one thing in, there will be a domino effect, and soon the game will be ran by robots.

 :smh:

Tennis is not robotic. American Football still has it's passion. Rugby, Cricket, Hockey, all these sports have maintained their fanbase with video technology implemented.

Replay would only help the human on the field that makes the decisions, make the most informed decision. How that would make him a robot is beyond me. Last I checked, he still has to make a decision.

All these blunders from the USA's and England's disallowed goals, Mexico's offsides, the handballs goals allowed against the Ivory Coast in a bind, all these things need to be addressed with more than just, "I apologize."

It's truly embarrassing to watch on FIFA's part.

As long as the mistakes are not blatant, the game goes on. Introducing technology which only some can afford will kill the fairness and equal access that has popularised the game. Refs have been making mistakes and the game has lived through them. Hurst did not score in 1966, Maradona used his hand in 9186, Gary Lineker dove in 1990 and the list goes on and on and on an on. Here is the bottom line: if the ref is fair, he will make mistakes either way and by the laws of statistics, no one will be adversely impacted by this. Those who clamour for technology ignore that this works both ways. England might not have won a world title had the goal by Hurst been disallowed. The US can cry all it wants, but but it did get through, the best position in that group. It got the opponent it wanted and it came up unequal.

Here are the facts. The US, England and the teams in that group were obviously not good. England barely squeaked through to the next round, and in the first 5 minutes, it was evident that the game against Germany was a mismatch. The Germans were simply superior, and the English exhibited a very basic lack of fundamental football knowledge. They played the same bullshit village football which they taught the Africans a half century ago, and we decimated by the Nazi. The English simply do not know how to move without the football. They might want to hire an Argentine coach to teach them the concept. The Americans were working on arenaline, euphoria and arrogant mentality that they were better. If, however, you looked at the Ghana, you could see that Ghana would win. They were superior in midfield, disciplined in defense and faster on both flanks and in the middle. The Americans did have their moments, resulting mainly from aerial passes lobbed into the 6 yard area, but they were denied by the Ghanaian goalie or Jonathan Mensah.

Having said this, there is something Africans and others can learn from the Americans. They have distilled the art of scoring to a science. They, like the Nazi, have figured out how goals are manufactured, and that is why they are so dangerous on lobs into the area. Each of their players seems to have an assigned position, to ensure that an American gets a foot on the ball. Very seldom do you see Americans scoring on the run of play. They score counters, free kicks and corners... Understanding what is behind this will improve the ability to score by other teams, and help to under cut the potential for Americans to surprise someone...

Mexico can cry all they want, but they were overmatched at that South American football they try so desperately to play. My favourite Mexican players, Giovanni Dos Santos, was made to look like an amateur, but then again, the Nazi from River Plate have perfected the art of the midfield...

Fairness means that the game is decided by what actually dictates on the pitch. Not off one's interpertation of what is going on the pitch, especially if that decision is wrong.

Teams shouldn't be coppin to, "hey we didn't get this one, but we'll get one down the line." This doesn't have fairness anywhere close to it. This is pure luck, and nothing else.

If you're country sucks, like mine for example, then you flat out suck. If you're a superpower in the world, then you deserve to be. But this should be settled on a pitch. Not in the newspapers, and local pubs.

Quite the contrary. Ask any Argentine that watched, and I know, cause i'm surrounded by them, Mexico played fantastic up until that fluke offsides goal. That's where Mexico unravelled and lost their mentals. But they gave that Argentine defense problems, and could've continued to do so had that goal not counted. It changed the entire landscape of the game, and as much as I hate to admit it because it's Mexico, they were robbed of a chance to score a goal and dictate the match.

In the end, I still believe Mexico would've lost, but they still shouldn't have been cheated a goal that wasn't in rule with the FIFA book.
