Americans were among the 13 teams that competed in the first World Cup in Uruguay in 1930, 80 years ago, before the NBA and NFL existed. They have been in football long enough to know. Most African countries did not exist until the 1960s... The Russians have been competing in football for decades without making an impact. Spain has never been in the World Cup final. Holland has never won it, nor has Poland, Portugal etc. You seem to think that Americans will just walk in there and walk away with it. You are dreaming. The world cup is war... the level of pride and competition in the contest exceeds that of the Olympics x10. This game has precipitated 2 wars. It also ushered a truce between the two warring sides during the Lebanese civil war in 1982. During games, both sides would not fire upon each other. As soon as the war ended, fighting would resume... This game is not a joke. It is life itself. It is not like the bullshit Super Bowl or the Olympics. Clint Dempsey is a perfect example of how Americans benefit from the special relationship. By his skillset, he should be playing in the Belgian second division, but he finds himself in the EPL. But the EPL has always been a racist league. Raber Majer, Thomas Nkono, Steven Keshi, Roger Millah, Kalusha Bwalya, Eugene Kabongo Ngoi, etc... never ever played in that league, but Bruce Grobelaar was warmly accepted as goalkeeper of Liverpool.

The premise is not just sending Allen Iverson to play soccer after years of playing american football and basketball.

The premise is that a superior athlete like Iverson, if he has not played football and basketball, and solely pursued soccer, he has the athletic ability to surpass the type of players that we are producing. Robinho is nothing but an allen iverson who grew up playing football instead of basketball and american football.

He also didnt say we would be an automatic world power. He said we would have the ability to be much more competitive than what we are now and we COULD be amonst the best.

This game is about technical and tactical skill. Tactical skill is easier to learn than technical skill. Kenyan run faster and longer than anyone, but cannot register in African football because they lack these skills. If Americans think that they can become a power on sheer speed alone, they have a rude shock coming their way. Very good point. This is a new phenomena, driven by the undeniable performance of Africans in the junior and senior world cup, and the evident wonders they have performed for France.. On top of that, Africans are cheap, costing a fraction of what Europeans players cost... I am talking, however, about England in the 80s. In those days, the only places that welcomed Africans were Holland, Belgium and France. England only accepted South Africans and Bruce Grabelaar. There were better players in Africa that Grobelaar. There were better players then than there are now. Roger Millah is the best striker from Africa in the last 30 years, Eugene Ngoi, Raber Majer etc, all these people never played in England...
