***Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Thread***

I keep telling you... You look at Nigeria, every single one is very skilled player, but they are disjointed and disinterested. Many Nigerians are disillusioned with the politics in Nigeria, and their patriotic sentiments are not strong. The World Cup is all about playing for your country and if you are not feeling patriotic, you might not try. Cameroon face the same issues, if not worse, given that the country is divided into French and English speaking blocks.

What Africans lack is hunger and hustle. With all the physical and technical skills, if they were to hustle, they could make life hard for someone. And when they have hustled, that is exactly what they have done. Every World Cup we have one African team that wants to prove something and 4 that do not care.

And the 1994 Super Eagles epitomized that hunger and hustle to the fullest! From the Super Eagles Nations Cup to the the stellar world cup performance before being robbed by a racist CAC referee and a penalty box diving ass Baggio (poetic justice how he lost the finals for them on a that horrendous penalty kick) to the 1996 "Super Eagles Redux" Olympic gold dream team:

Daniel Amokachi
Emmanuel Amunike
Tijani Babangida
Celestine Babayaro
Emmanuel Babayaro
Teslim Fatusi
Victor Ikpeba
Dosu Joseph
Nwankwo Kanu
Garba Lawal
Abiodun Obafemi
Kingsley Obiekwu
Uche Okechukwu
Jay-Jay Okocha
Sunday Oliseh
Mobi Oparaku
Wilson Oruma
Taribo West

Add Finidi George ... Deadliest squad ever assembled. OF ALL TIME.
:itsawrap:

I am offended by an anyone who has never met an African player saying they have no mental fitness. This is such a condescending notion. Roger Millah is an African player. Daniel Amokachi is an African player. Samuel Eto'o is an African player. George Weah etc Drogba.. Where has there ever been an American ranked in top 100 players in the world. Instead of throwing insult, ask Africans what the issues are... and not run your mouth from a vast store of ignorance. You want to know why Africans do not make it.. do not cry about the goal you claim was wrongly disallowed. That is what we face World Cup in, World Cup out. The problem with every idiot in the world is that he thinks he knows an African better than an African knows himself. Clearly this condescending attitude is something they have acquired from their masters...

By the way, I tried to put your empty headed ass on iggy but failed. If anyone finds out how,, let me know.

We do much more with much less than you have. If our people were mentally weak, we would not have won the Olympics Steeple chasese for the last 42 uninterrupted years...

You hypocritical piece of shit.... I posted Olympic numbers here roasting you on a consistent basis, and you're inane claim was, "Olympics are shit..."

Why you speakin on it now?? It don't mean nothing right??

And how on god's green earth do you know i'm not African??

You're a waste of good air.

For my fellow americans who dont get english tv:cool:

Thanks alot mate.

As for Rooney... wow. :smh:

I understand the frustrations but come on my dude. 80k in fans making the pilgrimage to South Africa to support you, and your country, and you blow up like this?? Again, I understand the frustrations but you're a millionaire for reason.

The Olympics medals that Americans win, such as ice skating, gymnastics, etc, have no relation to any skill you would need to play football. However, you having harping this mental stamina nonsense... You have been passing judgement having never seen an African football team, spoken to an African football player, or asked the Africans on this forum what is going on. You chose to tell from your perch in Washington DC, what is wrong with us in Africa. You said we were mentally weak, and yet we kicked your team out of the World Cup, have won numerous junior World Cups, Olympics Gold medals, in football; your claim belies the evidence...

If we were mentally weak, how did we win the under 20 World Cup last year? Why were we in the Olympics final game the year before? When has America been in the finals of any football World Cup or Olympic games?

 How about, they play better football than we do?? Did that ever cross your feeble mind?

You speak as if Ghana beating the USA 4 years ago is the World Cup of African football. Is it?

You should change your name to "CandleRoastsMeConsistently"

Fuck outta here you racist.

But we are mentally weak; how did we beat you in the World Cup? That is what I want you to know. We not only beat you, we actually kicked you out of it.

Everything is progressive...We keep winning the juniours, one day we will make it to the finals..

We own the Olympics. Africa does not. The under 20 World Cup has nothing to do with the World Cup in South Africa, and why these African teams are collectively underperforming.

Now, remove the penis from your mouth, and answer this question, how do you know i'm not african? Where do you get that assumption from? You know nothing about me. Keep pretending that you do.

Do you travel at all? Have you even ventured this world?

We can keep it football, and disagree till the heavens fall, but stop actin like you know me.

World Cup ref who made call against U.S. has a history

Today in a World Cup match against Slovenia that ended 2-2, the U.S. was robbed of a potential game-winning goal by referee Koman Coulibaly (#42!) thanks to a phantom foul call by the native of Mali.

To international soccer observers well-versed in the performance of officials, today’s inexplicable performance by Coulibaly came as no surprise.

Though officiating his first World Cup, Coulibaly has long been a center of controversy in past international matches. His handiwork involving Tunisia in the 2010 Africa Cup resulted in fans setting up a Facebook group calling for his removal from FIFA. The group was called: “TUNISIA ALL AGAINST Koman Coulibaly the cheater.”

Coulibaly though is most known for an inexplicable call in a 2006 World Cup qualifying match that should’ve handed home team Cameroon a spot in the World Cup - which in turn would’ve absolutely robbed Ivory Coast in the process. From Yahoo Eurosport:

Coulibaly awarded Cameroon a disputed stoppage-time penalty kick in their final 2006 World Cup qualifier against Egypt in Yaounde (Cameroon) that, had they converted, would have taken them through to the finals.

Instead, Cameroon’s Pierre Wome was unable to convert the gift-wrapped goal from Coulibaly, striking a post and sending Ivory Coast to Germany. (Wome’s miss resulted in his obligatory fear for life and limb.)

But Coulibaly’s World Cup assignment isn’t the most outrageous officiating injustice of the tournament - by a longshot!

FIFA has officially assigned 30 officials from 28 countries to the World Cup. Officials from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Malaysia and Coulibaly’s Mali have all drawn duty. (New Zealand landed two officiating spots!)

How many officials from the United States were selected by FIFA to work the World Cup?

Zero.

The ref was consistently garbage for the entire game...thanks for the background info...on a side note, the US fans should take heart at the way the team came back, they showed more pride and spirit in one half than i've seen the England team display in 10 years.

Thanks alot mate.

In England, Rooney is gassed daily that he's on par with Messi...this game showed that not is the case and he realizes it...for gods sake this was ALGERIA...Rooney was pitiful:hmm:

It's amazing how delusional english fans are, am listening to talksport radio live and the denial is just comical. I don't know why it's so hard to just admit that england is a team of lackluster overrated arrogant players. It's always everyone else's fault apart from the players. Half the team should have never been capped in the first place.

I've come to the conclusion that some players on the England team have no pride playing for their country and are solely there on reputation alone. The pressure on England since last night's game will definately increase.

Rooney stupid comments isn't certainly gonna help things. We have one more game against Slovenia which is a must win game. Capello has got to try and do something different, even if it means dropping some players. Its a tough call to make but we can't play one more game like the way play against the US and Algeria or we are taking a early flight home.

I totally agree. I keep on hearing all this nonsense from football pundits (some of whom are good friends with the team) about where Rooney should play. He should not even start against Slovenia.

Stop this crap about the system. If you can't even control the ball.............
He should have been subbed yesterday and if he was, that outburst would have been avoided. England have no dribble/playmaker- except for Cole. Capello needs to give him a start. Why he persists with Shaun Wright- Phillips, I don't know

This current team's performance is worse than the one in Germany

Slovenia may spoil the party and England could be flying home in a week

These slit eyed devils may yet speak for themselves... To me the Chinks are playing the more sensible football. I agree with all the commentators that the cheese eaters need a dribbler to unlayer that 4 51 formation of the chinks. If you dribble past the first layer of defenders, holes appear in the back line of the chinks... The English commentators are so biased and barely disguising their desire to see their fellow Europeans win...Arjen Robben would make a difference in this game...

England should be watching this game to see how football should be played

Nigeria, South Africa can also learn, the important lesson that defense is the responsibility of everyone, not just the back 4. How many times has Van Persie gone into the back line to defend.

The Dutch are the tallest people in Europe, why is their national team so small? On the other hand, the Japanese are on the that Human Growth Hormone (HGH); they consume 40% of world usage. It is hardly surprising that they they have grown 15centimeters (6inches) since the end of World War 2.
