This is what I see. England is perfectly capable of beating Slovenia because they think the same way. Algeria is likely to beat the USA...If not that game will end in a draw. Right now, a draw favours the USA because it has more goals.. However, my France Mexico prediction was so wrong... I am disinclined to make any commitments.. So this group comes down to this. Algeria is a good team. All these Africans are good, but they have head issues, as I said last month. Nigeria play like villagers who hate to tackle in midfield. South Africa seem hesitant to take chances...and got robbed on the PK. Cameroon looked like they came from the street... fuck them...Ghana and Cote D'Ivoire were on point...

The problem with Ribery is that he is all speed ahead on the left flank where as they need him to be all over the midfield causing havoc like Messi does and Paul Gascoigne did. The problem the French have is that the do not have a play maker. Domenec tried to compensate by pushing more men ahead, but that left them porous in defensive midfield... France has been the land of midfielders... Platini, Zidane etc
Just because they are playing horrible football doesn't take away the fact that English are better footballers individually than the Americans. In terms of being technically gifted, the English aren't near the top compared to some of the other European countries let alone some of the South American countries. However, on an individual basis, there are very few American players I would take over their English counterparts. (Howard over any keeper imo, Onyewu over Carragher , can't say Dempsey or Donovan because England didn't even take Scotty Parker who you could argue is better than both ). I think that while clearly the gap has closed between America and Europe/South America in terms of technical ability, there is still measurable difference. The footballers who I think are really underrated are the Africans. Not to sound too "Nzingaish"

Two African teams have not done well in the last 3 World Cups. These are Nigeria and Cameroon. Both usually come into the World Cup with too many issue s from home. In some cases, these involves questions about bonuses and allowances...Sometimes, it is dissention, which as people are saying in the case of France, can be a demoralising cancer to a team.
Ghana are more organised. Ivory Coast have organised themselves well this year. South Africa are playing over their heads...

I keep telling you... You look at Nigeria, every single one is very skilled player, but they are disjointed and disinterested. Many Nigerians are disillusioned with the politics in Nigeria, and their patriotic sentiments are not strong. The World Cup is all about playing for your country and if you are not feeling patriotic, you might not try. Cameroon face the same issues, if not worse, given that the country is divided into French and English speaking blocks.
What Africans lack is hunger and hustle. With all the physical and technical skills, if they were to hustle, they could make life hard for someone. And when they have hustled, that is exactly what they have done. Every World Cup we have one African team that wants to prove something and 4 that do not care.
Then you have local admins who are utterly incompetent.. It is pathetic. I talked to a member of the Nigerian National Team and asked him what the problems were, and he laid out a whole laundry list of reasons why some on the team were not motivated...
You have teams in Africa, where players are paid less than $100 per game; where as Brazilians get hundreds of thousands if they win. These players talk to each other in Europe. Kalusha Bwalya and Romario were on the same team, as were Messi and Etoo. If Messi is going home to play for $50 000 per match, and Eto'o is informed by an admin who comes to the team practise in a chauffered limo that his will be paid, $500 per match, imagine what he feels. These are some of the complaints the Nigerian player told us about...
