NBA 2K16 (A Spike Lee Joint) - Official Thread

I don't think they should just give up completely.

Hey, i'm a 2K fan... But EA still has much better servers tho.

So EA still has a distinct advantage in 'online' gameplay & matchmaking... They just need to get their weight up ('on the court'), at this point. That's all.

I like these new modes that 2K will introduce in 2k16... But if 2K still hasn't done shit about their servers... It will be yet another FIASCO from launch day in September/October... until whenever they drop their first 'patch' in mid-December (about a week before X-mas) like they usually do, every year.

Overall 2K makes the much better NBA game... But unfortunately 2K has also gotten REAL lazy when it comes to 'testing' their game, since there has been zero competition on the shelf since 2k11 to FORCE them to improve their 'quality control'.

Last year alone 2K15 had major problems during the first few weeks with the game randomly kicking players offline, or just outright 'quitting' & shutting down completely. Plus tons of gamers were losing their 'VC' constantly because of all the 'crashes' & 'bugs'.

As a result, 2k15 earned the 'lowest rating' 2K has ever seen in the last decade from the vast majority of video game industry writers / reviewers / websites.

So the 'window is still open' for EA to be competitive again, imo... but it's closing fast.

Personally, I think 2017 might be the year when EA puts some 'worthy' competition on the shelf.

EA is catching up (little by little) every year. Seriously.

Think about it...

On launch day... if EA's new face-scan technology (using a mobile phone) works much quicker & much better than 2K's version did at launch last year... then shhhheeeeiiiiiiitttt....

Who knows? In a few years, NBA Gamers might start saying shit like...
- 2K will be the folks who 'invent it'... but EA will be the folks who 'perfect it'.
- And that's the kind of innovative stuff that can keep EA in the game.

Just saying.

Don't get me wrong, I fucking hate EA... in general... but COTDAMN their demonstration of a (10-second) face-scan using a mobile phone @ E3 this year was highly impressive  especially when I think about 2K's facescan technology last year which took SEVERAL MINUTES to render and practically required 'studio lighting' plus 'multiple do-overs' to get it just right.

Just think back to Oct 2014, when 2K gamers were posting tutorials & rant videos on YouTube about 'how long' it took them to scan their face properly ... even the 2K Developers made a joke about it and asked gamers to tweet pics of their 'worst results' of their facescans. :smh:

Of course nba live has great servers. When is only 3 niggaz online I'm sure that shit runs real smooth. And face scan can't save a game that plays like it's still on ps2

EA has had better servers for ALL their sports games than 2k has ever had.

There's way more than 3 niggaz playing Madden online everyday, at the same time. Facts.

Don't forget EA's FIFA soccer games, hockey games, wrestling games, racing games & baseball games, etc., etc.

The 'Servers' have always been 2k's biggest 'Achilles heel'. That's nothin new.

So EA improving on the 'little things' like face-scanning technology will help them sell enough units THIS YEAR... to give them more time to get their gameplay (on the court) tighter... NEXT YEAR. (Just Rinse & Repeat to 'close the gap')

But 2k not showing up to ANY major gaming conferences this year to discuss their next title... plus waiting until the last 4-5 weeks before launch to trickle out pertinent info & 'locker codes' via Twitter on a weekly basis might soon start to backfire as EA continues to 'gain ground', year after year. :smh:

5 years ago... When 2k11 was about to hit the shelves... 2k was everywhere promoting it. They showed up to E3, Gamescom, and everywhere in-between. Plus they dropped 'developer diary' videos, 'gameplay tutorials'.... and multiple 'trailers' starting much earlier in the year.

Nowadays 2k just waits until late August (or just 30 days before launch, in early September) to discuss one single 'new feature' per week. Then shit goes haywire on 'launch day' and folks start bitching and dropping videos on YouTube about the very same bugs & glitches that are STILL in the game for multiple years... and they only rush to drop a quick 'patch' if these problems interfere with their VC 'microtransactions' in any way. :smh:

That new 2K marketing strategy of 'just responding to leaks' and/or 'waiting until the last minute'... won't last forever as EA gets better and better. :smh:

Just saying.

Man you riding hard for EA and their weak ass Live.

2K has always been the better overall game dating back to the Deam Cast days. The only gripe you can make is the online servers being shitty. Live isn't in the conversation anymore. 2K can take their time releasing info and content.

Exactly. Maybe if EA had wacker servers they could make a better game

EA hasn't made a decent basketball game since they introduce the up and under layup.

I think that was Bulls vs. Lakers.

disappointed you still gotta use the kinect for the face scan...I might cop for PS4 instead and get the cam for cheaper or possibly free depending on if I have coupons or some reward points...shit can usually be found on sale for like $40

EA bball is still shit...but good point tho re: 2k...I'm not gonna lie if this doesn't get 9 or above then it's not even worth picking it up since I got 2k15

The Spike Lee written My Career story is worth it the pickup.

That 99-00 Trailblazers squad should have won the title that year.

Since they adding new teams then I'm hoping they add the 2001 Pacers that went to the finals and the 94 Rockets with Drexler. The Raptors with Carter and Mcgrady would be cool along with the Kings also. Still waiting on the 93 Suns squad. It's really about the players being available for My Team.

Was Reggie Miller even in 2k15? I don't think I ever saw a card for him.

NBA 2K16 Green Perfect Release Details

I don't know what Mike Wang is talking about. It's rare as hell to get a green release. I may get 1 or 2 a game.:smh:

Whoa.... EA just put 2K on notice. :smh:

"Tick tock niggaz. Tick. Tock."

2K better hope their servers work right on LAUNCH DAY this year. :smh:

There's no room for a repeat of last year's shenanigans. :smh:

Cuz it Seems EA ain't going away without a fight. :smh:

EA finally doing what they should've been doing the last few years: bringing that streetball shit back.

They could compete with 2K if they just stick to making the game more streetball/pro-am, without it being too cartoony like NBA Jam and NBA Street (which was still fun), and without being to cliche like NBA Ballers.

I'd buy a realistic streetball game with a good career mode and online play.

Agreed.

But it seems like that's EXACTLY what EA has done this year.
They basically made a serious (sim) streetball / pro-am game... and lots of die-hard 2K gamers are giving them mad props.

Folks be clowning EA hard.... but it seems that THIS year... they came back with a vengeance.

Sheeiiiittt........

I’m hoping 2k drops some BIG news soon…. because NBA Live 16 is turning into a monster since they dropped their Pro-Am video yesterday.

Lastly, these 2 guys break down the gameplay in this podcast:
http://postgamepodcast.libsyn.com/post-game-podcast-episode-20-nba-live-16-pro-am-hands-on-impressions
(The first 60 minutes is all about NBA Live 16…. the rest of the podcast is about FIFA)

They’ve spent an extensive amount of time playing the game.

They give 2K props for being the dominant NBA title, but…

They basically breakdown how EA has pretty much created a “Basketball MMO” with their version of the Pro-Am mode... to completely separate itself from 2K.:eek:

And they also say that playing ‘team ball’ is rewarded waaay more in NBA Live than in 2k. :smh:

Seems EA has CLEARLY ‘drawn a line in the sand’ by not allowing gamers to ‘buy skills’ with any type of (VC) microtransactions.

More & more, gamers are claiming EA has eliminated the ‘cheesy’ gameplay.

No 7-foot point guards in the park who can run faster than John Wall, have a better handle than Chris Paul & sink 3-pointers like Larry Bird. :smh:

If the gameplay is as good as ALL these videos & vloggers keep saying it is… it would be crazy to think that EA could make a comeback and turn NBA2K into the ‘ball-hoggers’ favorite NBA game… while NBA Live becomes the favorite for those who prefer to play ’team basketball’. :smh:

At the end of the day, this is all good news for basketball gamers, in general.

Having 2 quality NBA games on the shelves will push them both to ‘raise the bar’.

I'm going to cop 2K PRIMARILY because of the Spike Lee Story.
I wanna see what how much he has improved the game.

But I'm definitely gonna download that NBA Live 16 Demo and the 'face scan' app - I gotta see this shit for myself.

I kept saying that 2017 will be the year that EA brings some serious competition to 2K.

If this NBA Live 16 game is as good as ALL these cats all say it is.... then 2017 is gonna be a serious fight for that #1 spot between 2K and EA.

Of course nba live has great servers. When is only 3 niggaz online I'm sure that shit runs real smooth. And face scan can't save a game that plays like it's still on ps2

:lol::lol::lol::lol: Real talk. Fuck NBA Live. Niggas ain't checkin for dat shit.

:lol::lol::lol::lol: Real talk. Fuck NBA Live. Niggas ain't checkin for dat shit.

Don’t kid yourself. Niggaz is ‘curious’ this year.
(For the first time… in a loong ass time.)

Granted, EA will never beat 2K outright in ‘sales’ this year :smh:… but if NBA Live 16 is (even halfway) decent… they might ‘close the gap’ next year ALOT quicker than we all think. :dunno:

Because Niggaz WILL be downloading that (EA) Demo on Sept. 15th… for FREE. Please believe.

Even these dudes (like these guys) who CONSTANTLY shit on EA…. have all admitted that they will (at least) download the NBA Live 16 demo.

Listen from the 8:20 to 31:00 min mark.

Nobody saying “Fuck EA”. :smh: (Not this year.)

^^^^ sound like you got stock in EA fam. But this demo will tell the story. I'll reserve any more talk about live till i play it.

Nah I don't have no stock in EA.

I'm already gonna buy 2k16 specifically for that Spike Lee storyline.

I'm just pointing out that EA will be 'worth a serious look' also this year.

Especially since all these (well-known) 'hardcore' NBA 2k gamers are posting vids recently on YouTube... talking about NBA Live 16. (in a good way)

They not out here just shitting all over EA in all these vids... They giving their props for the improvements. That's all.

If you like basketball video games, sounds like there will (finally) be more than just 'one option' on the shelves come September.

Time will tell.
