I don't think they should just give up completely.
Hey, i'm a 2K fan... But EA still has much better servers tho.
So EA still has a distinct advantage in 'online' gameplay & matchmaking... They just need to get their weight up ('on the court'), at this point. That's all.
I like these new modes that 2K will introduce in 2k16... But if 2K still hasn't done shit about their servers... It will be yet another FIASCO from launch day in September/October... until whenever they drop their first 'patch' in mid-December (about a week before X-mas) like they usually do, every year.
Overall 2K makes the much better NBA game... But unfortunately 2K has also gotten REAL lazy when it comes to 'testing' their game, since there has been zero competition on the shelf since 2k11 to FORCE them to improve their 'quality control'.
Last year alone 2K15 had major problems during the first few weeks with the game randomly kicking players offline, or just outright 'quitting' & shutting down completely. Plus tons of gamers were losing their 'VC' constantly because of all the 'crashes' & 'bugs'.
As a result, 2k15 earned the 'lowest rating' 2K has ever seen in the last decade from the vast majority of video game industry writers / reviewers / websites.
So the 'window is still open' for EA to be competitive again, imo... but it's closing fast.
Personally, I think 2017 might be the year when EA puts some 'worthy' competition on the shelf.
EA is catching up (little by little) every year. Seriously.
Think about it...
On launch day... if EA's new face-scan technology (using a mobile phone) works much quicker & much better than 2K's version did at launch last year... then shhhheeeeiiiiiiitttt....
Who knows? In a few years, NBA Gamers might start saying shit like...
- 2K will be the folks who 'invent it'... but EA will be the folks who 'perfect it'.
- And that's the kind of innovative stuff that can keep EA in the game.
Just saying.
Don't get me wrong, I fucking hate EA... in general... but COTDAMN their demonstration of a (10-second) face-scan using a mobile phone @ E3 this year was highly impressiveespecially when I think about 2K's facescan technology last year which took SEVERAL MINUTES to render and practically required 'studio lighting' plus 'multiple do-overs' to get it just right.
Just think back to Oct 2014, when 2K gamers were posting tutorials & rant videos on YouTube about 'how long' it took them to scan their face properly... even the 2K Developers made a joke about it and asked gamers to tweet pics of their 'worst results' of their facescans.
Of course nba live has great servers. When is only 3 niggaz online I'm sure that shit runs real smooth. And face scan can't save a game that plays like it's still on ps2
Man you riding hard for EA and their weak ass Live.
2K has always been the better overall game dating back to the Deam Cast days. The only gripe you can make is the online servers being shitty. Live isn't in the conversation anymore. 2K can take their time releasing info and content.
EA hasn't made a decent basketball game since they introduce the up and under layup.
I think that was Bulls vs. Lakers.

EA bball is still shit...but good point tho re: 2k...I'm not gonna lie if this doesn't get 9 or above then it's not even worth picking it up since I got 2k15
The Spike Lee written My Career story is worth it the pickup.

Since they adding new teams then I'm hoping they add the 2001 Pacers that went to the finals and the 94 Rockets with Drexler. The Raptors with Carter and Mcgrady would be cool along with the Kings also. Still waiting on the 93 Suns squad. It's really about the players being available for My Team.
Was Reggie Miller even in 2k15? I don't think I ever saw a card for him.

EA finally doing what they should've been doing the last few years: bringing that streetball shit back.
They could compete with 2K if they just stick to making the game more streetball/pro-am, without it being too cartoony like NBA Jam and NBA Street (which was still fun), and without being to cliche like NBA Ballers.
I'd buy a realistic streetball game with a good career mode and online play.
