Spike Lee directs NBA 2K16 video game

NBA 2K16 Trailer - 1st Commercial

"We follow a kid through the trials and tribulations of being a top high school player and the decisions he has to make," the filmmaker said.

Della Cava reports the MyCareer mode will cover the social and business challenges professional athletes are often faced with, giving the game a more realistic experience.

Lee shot 90 minutes' worth of "cinematic narrative" during the 12-day shoot at 2K Games' Bay Area studios, which reportedly translates to 12 hours' worth of in-game drama.

Spike Lee directs NBA 2K16 video game

SAN FRANCISCO — Spike Lee is blending his passion for storytelling with his mania for hoops as the directorial force behind the next version of the popular basketball video game NBA 2K16.

The filmmaker's latest Spike Lee Joint, announced Thursday on the eve of the NBA Finals between Golden State and Cleveland, aims to add realism to the game's interactive feature, MyCareer, which introduces gamers to the social and business challenges of professional sports. NBA 2K16 will be available this fall.

"We follow a kid through the trials and tribulations of being a top high school player and the decisions he has to make," Lee tells USA TODAY. He says that although he managed to master the intricacies of a 12-day motion-capture shoot at 2K Games' Bay Area studios, his video game skills leave a lot to be desired.

"My son's taught me a bit, but I'm a dinosaur," Lee says, calling from the Chicago set of his next feature, tentatively and controversially called Chiraq. (Some Chicagoans have complained that the title, an amalgam of Chicago and Iraq, denigrates their town. Lee just says, "It's gonna be great.")

Lee — whose dozens of movies range from 1986's breakthrough She's Gotta Have It to 2014's Da Sweet Blood of Jesus — wrote and directed the MyCareer element of 2K16. It was produced by the He Got Game director and New York Knicks fan's 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks company. Though the details of the story are still under wraps, themes generally run to avoiding the pitfalls that surface when talent mixes with money.

"We added MyCareer in 2012, and we've always been trying to make it more and more of a real story, like a film with drama," 2K spokesman Ryan Peters says. "We just told Spike, 'You transform the narrative, and we'll change that into digital polygons.' And he did that, bringing a protagonist and antagonist to the story."

Peters says Lee shot what amounts to 90 minutes of "cinematic narrative," which translates to about 12 hours of in-game drama.

2K16 will feature three professionals on its cover: Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry, Houston Rockets shooting guard James Harden and New Orleans Pelicans power forward Anthony Davis.

"I'm guessing every one of us grew up dreaming of the moment we'd be on the cover," Davis says of the 15-year-old video game franchise. "I've seen so many players I know head off and put on a suit with all those balls (for motion-capture duty); it looks so fun."

Davis says having Lee take the reins of the story adds another element of realism, "because we all know how much he really loves basketball, we all respect him."

The all-star says teaching kids "at a young age that basketball isn't just shooting and dunking but also big decisions about managing your money, what to buy, paying taxes, all that will help them be more knowledgeable about what it takes to succeed in the NBA."
Though Davis demurs when asked to pick a favorite in the upcoming real-life NBA Finals ("I just hope it's a good game," he says quietly), Lee is downright chatty on the subject.

"I hope Golden State wins. Now, I'm not hating on LeBron (James, star of the Cleveland Cavaliers), I just like the way Golden State plays," Lee says. "I think Steve Kerr (the Warriors' coach) should have been coach of the year. And Curry, well, his father (NBA player Dell Curry) used to kill the Knicks. But his son has a shot that's so sweet, so quick."

Interesting.....................

Let's see if they making any gameplay or graphical improvements ... It's been stagnant for the past few years.

New Historic Teams and Shoes

The latest episode of "NBA 2K15's" weekly series "NBA 2KTV" revealed a lot of new information and features about the upcoming "NBA 2K16" which releases in September.

Speaking with Scott O'Gallagher of 2K Sports, it was revealed that more retro/classic teams will be included in this year's edition of the game and O'Gallagher revealed that the 1999-2000 Toronto Raptors, 2007-2008 Boston Celtics and 2000-2001 Los Angeles Lakers would be included in those teams.

Another big reveal is a feature that has a huge fanbase: Sneakers.

Shoes in the game will now be 3D scanned, so they will look more realistic. Rob Jones of 2K Sports also confirmed that Dwayne Wade and Klay Thompson's shoes will be in "NBA 2K16" along with other new sneakers.

Jones also revealed that he was working on getting Jamal Crawford's BrandBlack sneaker in the game but made no promises.

As for other details about the game, crowd animations have been reshot and should make for a more realistic atmosphere during games. Mike Wang of 2K Sports also said that "2K16's" gameplay will be the "biggest and most challenging" yet.

Yup.... But only to the folks who are unable to think that Spike is incapable of writing a brand new script and tell a completely different 'basketball story' almost 20 years after he wrote He Got Game.

You nailed it bruh.... Because there are some folks out there who can watch multiple episodes of Game of Thrones which all tell different stories...... But if Spike Lee is involved... It's safe to assume we gonna see the very same episode we saw almost 2 decades ago.

I hear ya.

I'm copping, I'm due. I usually space it out by a year or 2 because playing with current teams and stats isn't enough incentive for me to piss away 60 bucks every year, so this year I don't mind

Well EA will cancel another NBA Live. I love career mode. I didn't play it last year, but this year I will rock it hard. I think all sports game career mode has gotten better except for Madden. I was deep in MLB 15 The Show and now look like I will be in deep on this 2K16.

NBA 2K16 SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES MICHAEL JORDAN

2K has revealed that the NBA 2K16 Special Edition will feature Michael Jordan on the cover.

The special edition of the basketball game also includes a Jordan NBA 2K16 poster, Jordan Fathead wall cling, digital Jordan shoes, T-Shirt, and jersey for MyPlayer, 30,000 virtual currency, and three emerald packs as well as a new special edition exclusive moments card for MyTeam VIP.

As for Jordan, a six-time NBA champion with the Chicago Bulls and 14-time all star, this is his third NBA 2K cover appearance. His Airness first showed up in the NBA 2K series with NBA 2K11 and then he returned in NBA 2K12.

There are three cover stars for the regular version of NBA 2K16: Stephen Curry, James Harden and Anthony Davis. And filmmaker Spike Lee is scripting and directing the MyCareer mode.

NBA 2K16 is set to release September 29, and people who pre-order the basketball game will get it four days early. The NBA 2K16 Special Edition will cost $80 and is only available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Fuck EA this shows if they had a football game it would dominate. EA is fucking Trash fuck everybody at EA.

Hopefully they will bring back Teamup mode with actual teams not that Allstar shit.

You just need some friends who play teamup. Since 2K9 or whenever they added the team up mode I run that with a group of people up until 2K13 when I lost interest in it. 4 on 4 normally and match up with each other.

NBA 2K16 Features Body Scans for More Player Authenticity

The official NBA 2K Twitter account posted a picture today of cover athlete Anthony Davis getting body scanned. The promise is that it will give players "more authenticity than ever before."

Obviously that's a bit vague, but this is not the first time we've heard about this type of scanning. Back in January, we pointed out that a couple NBA teams posted similar images on their official Twitter accounts. In other words, the NBA 2K folks have been making their rounds to get this done.

It's hard to say if this is to try and push more realistic wingspans, more realistic tattoos, more body types, or something else even deeper than that. It also makes you wonder if you will have more body types to choose from when creating players.

Either way, more authenticity is never a bad thing, we'll just have to see how this all comes together.

NBA 2K16 release date news: Stephen Curry's shot together with new big man animations to feature

Fresh off a career-defining win at the NBA Finals, Steph Curry is back on the court showing off his shot, but doing so this time for "NBA 2K16."

In a feature for USA Today, Curry showed up for his motion-capture session for the game decked out in the unique suit known to many NBA players. Curry's suit is filled with numerous markers designed to track every movement, no matter how small, in an attempt to fully encapsulate the brilliance of the NBA MVP's on-court movements.

In total, Curry spent around 30 minutes shooting, dribbling and pulling off various other moves on the hard court located in 2K Sports' motion capture studios.

Curry will be one of the three current NBA players set to be featured on the cover of "NBA 2K16." The other two players are James Harden of the Houston Rockets and Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans. All three players also finished in the top five of the voting for the previously concluded season's MVP award.

Other athletes who have graced the cover of the "NBA 2K" franchise include four-time leage MVP LeBron James, 2013-2014 MVP Kevin Durant and even former Chicago Bulls great and current Charlotte Hornets owner, Michael Jordan.

In related news, "NBA 2K16" will reportedly feature new animations for post players when it is released, according to Latin Post.

The people behind the game are working on introducing 32 new different backdown animations in the post to help diversify the gameplay. The new moves are also designed to help provide bigger players in the game a more distinct advantage due to their height.

"NBA 2K16" features the work of acclaimed director Spike Lee. In the past, the franchise has called on notable musicians such as Jay-Z and Pharrell Williams to help generate more buzz for their releases.

"NBA 2K16" will be released on September 29.

The sound track will be hot trash. Dj mustard and dj khaled. :smh:

There's gonna be about 50 tracks.

Mustard and Khaled are not picking all of them. :smh:

You skipped the part where it says DJ Premier will create a playlist also.... plus there's a 2k Classics Mixtape that is a playlist of 'fan favorite' tracks from older versions of NBA 2k video game.

Those 2 playlists ALONE will be 'worth it'.
