Little Brother Interview: Less workin with 9th Wonder and Phonte's Foreign Exchange 2

Maybe dudes here in the South know who Little Brother is but just don't feel compelled to talk about them on this board. I'm in NC and I'm a fan of LBs music. I've been to the Cat's Cradle shows and supported their music. Little Brother music is hit or miss though. I've had discussions with dudes who listen to Hip-Hop music that say they don't like LB.
That's because they are stupid, not because they have a good opinion of hip hop. I bet those same dudes will say they love Mike Jones or Paul Wall or Slim Thug or Lil Wayne, knowing good and well those dudes are wack.

I'm half North Carolinian myself. My father went to Duke. And I myself am a big UNC fan in basketball and yes I hate Duke. Rockin my MJ Tarheel jersey right now.

 ...man you know damn well NC is below the mason-dixon line, i refuse to even debate that. But seriously, i think one of the main reasons ppl from the south, on this board, don't bring up LB or any other real hiphop acts from the south up, is because they either don't listen to them or they think someone will try to deem them irrelevant. Once again this is my opinion, so i may be wrong....but i think i'm right! How many dudes do you know that will say, "Yeah I like Gucci, Crime Mob, and oh yeah Little Brother!...... :smh: :smh: :smh:
ppl try to measure your worth by the fact that you on the radio, mtv, bet. its bullshit!
I was joking man.

Re: Little Brother

Mother fuckers need to get over this childish mentality that "up north"=good and "down south"=wack. There are plenty of wack mofos from NY as well. The south has nice emcees just like any other place in the country.

I wouldn't go as far as to call them stupid. They grew up on Hip Hop music just like I did and probably you did. They just didn't like Little Brother's music. Even though Pooh's album "Sleepers" was a dope ass album, hell IMO it was better than Common's "Be" that year, an argument can be made that Pooh doesn't come hard sometimes. A lot of dudes can't fuck with 9th wonder, even though he's not in the group anymore. I've heard dudes say they don't like 9th's drums, but they like Black Milk's drums or Kev Brown's drums. That doesn't mean they aren't true hip hop fans, that just means they got different tastes. I"m a Little Brother fan though.

Re: Little Brother

Who's doing the production for them now that 9th Wonder is gone? Why did 9th Wonder bounce?

Little Brother is the shit, here's hoping they can hold it down with 9th Wonder gone.

And the wildstyle shit about it all is that THE INTERNET helped in full effect for that entire project to be established. Phonte and Nicolay sparked a friendship online through OKAYPLAYER/EMAIL/WHEREVER ELSE ... and built on that with 'Te and him connecting and sending one another their work and never having initially met being on different continents and all. They LATER met and Nicolay's been cool with them and all ... and essentially another in the long-list of EXCELLENT Justus League affiliates (and there are MANY; another big name that is a BGOL FAN FAVE = MURS from the west coast, no question).

Co-sign. And their stage show is QUALITY FUN too, for real. Solid hiphop. At that show just under 4 years ago in that venue of a few hundred (I'm thinking about 400 - 600) ... they flat-out rocked it. They included some old-school soul songs and sang along to that shit up there ... acted a fool ... had fun ... showed true love for the art. Hell ... as many know (and have seen in Youtube clips, etc) ... they even include some funny-ass CHOREOGRAPHED boy band dance moves up in their live show hustle. Shit's funny as hell (especially when they're up there with 1 - 3 others including Joe Scudda, etc).

Man I gotta see them live.

Yeah, fam' ... they were clownin', havin' fun ... and were great to have a part of the pre-show content considering Souls of Mischief and 'em came on a bit later and did the damn thang as well.

I still have goosebumps to this day when Opio gave love to the crowd for the crew's longevity in the game and the fan support, and noted it wasn't too common for most hiphop groups & crews to last a solid 10 years plus in the game. And we all knew '93 TIL INFINITY was hittin' seconds later. Man ... when that fuckin' initial bassline hit ... shit was set off so well, man.

Not to mention the fact that they had a mandatory coat check at the door ... and left the doors (30 feet away) open the ENTIRE night (October 30th, 2003 - fuckin' dead of the fall - damp air - I was in a fuckin' tshirt) ... I must've caught some kind of cold that night or some shit.

Freaky,

Here's some content they did for one of those live online session-type joints hosted by AOL or whomever.

Watch the intro' to the SLOW IT DOWN joint for the funny, semi-choreographed dance steps and shit ... they incorporated that into the 2003 live show for cool factor, lol ...

Re: Little Brother

I'm from the same area as LB (Raleigh). It cracks me up when people make the assumption, like NC is the deep south or some shit. Funny when I go to ATL and Savannah, cats down there think I sound like from the northeast. NC and VA are both transitional states.

NORTH CAROLINA IS NOT THE DIRTY DEEP SOUTH!!!

Re: Little Brother

The one tune they did with the J Dilla beat was bad!!

They beat complimented the flow perfectly other to a tee

As much as I'm pro Freaky_1 in this thread, I have to agree with you here.

No need to be pro me man. I was making a joke about that shit. I know where NC is. I have family there as I have stated. My grandmother's property is on the NC, VA border.

Re: Little Brother

Saw this at the record store and copped it. Been bumping this on my phone so when I saw the vinyl, I had to get it.

Sorry for the big ass pic.
