I have this free iPhone game I play time to time on my phone. It’s supposed to be a free gaming site that you can cash out if you win enough points. I don’t care about that, it’s mindless entertainment. But it’s ad supported, so frequently ads for other game are pushed. A couple of days ago, a Spades game was featured. I laughed to myself thinking when did spades become mainstream. But I looked at the game, all of the avatars were black. Oh this is a black game! Wayment, does this game think/know I’m black? Now I’m paranoid thinking what did it do to give that impression. Then I shifted to thinking , oh cool a black company made an iPhone app spades game.

Now I’m angry. Another clear instance of other culture vultures exploiting black activities.
I know know the common refrain is that we should create products for ourselves for our community. But we need to start culture vulture OTHER communities and extract from THEM to bring back to our communities.
