Self insecurity issues can come in the form of "feining" for someone darker than you or white etc. A light skinned man who only wants dark women because of his insecurities is essentially no different than a dark guy who wants only light skinned girls because of his insecurities. They are both dealing with issues. The fact that you prefer women around your own tone can actually show an inner personal psychological development. You could also be simply riding the wave of what is touted as the "best;" like most people do. There is nothing wrong with either scenario.
