In Kenya and Uganda, if your skin is light in shade, you are beautiful/handsome. Nobody seems to see anything else! The only part of West Africa I know is Ghana and they didn't seem to be nearly as colorism affected. I didn't see skin bleaching ads in the west with the same frequency. On the Kenyan message board I frequent (a sort of Kenyan BGOL) you'll face their collective wrath for posting a dark complected woman, no matter how beautiful.
