Willie D spitting facts as usual
This needs to be broken out into a separate thread and thoroughly discussed.
We concern ourselves with religious indoctrination and have a pretty good handle on its negative affects as far as this board goes for the past 25 years.
Political indoctrination, not so much.
In what way?
The person I responded to said we ain't got shit in 45 Presidents and I shot that down nothing more than that. The fact is America ain't where we need to be but we are not where we were.
But we are.
My Dad and I talk a couple of times every week. He loves the Lord, football, and politics. I allow it. He’s my Pops.
Anyway, he turned 3 quarters of a century in July. Born slap dab in the middle of Jim Crow IN Alabama.
Let him tell it, it was bad. Not as bad as many places, but bad nonetheless. He uses the word to describe them the most as “low down.”
The lynchings. The burnings. The bombing. The signs.
He said it is different now, maybe worse, because we always saw it coming because you could be out with it like that then. Now, though, everything is baked into the system AND they are being out in the open with it on film and still don’t give a f*ck.
I myself will always believe the closer you get to the years of slavery, the worse it was. However, the gun has intensified and replaced the rope. Injustice is swift. Thanks to social media, you and I are surviving public lynchings. I don’t think we get that.
Just because we suffer “better” than we did during Jim Crow, doesn’t mean we are better off. With what we now have access to, we are much farther behind than we should be.
You are using the same talking points the Russians and Republicans use to divide and conquer. You stay in these treads talking tangibles without acknowledging that to get tangibles you need to be in the room at the table. You say don't vote for Dems unless they give you something. How about this, we vote for the party we are most likely to get something from. That ain't republicans. Following your lead gets us on the outside still not getting shit. Let me use your augment against you. You say Dems won't give me tangibles right? Well, Republicans actively take shit from us so voting for them puts us in the worst position. Currently the choices are Dems, Republicans, or not voting. Which one advances the cause? What's your better plan for the 2020 election? Who should Black people vote for that is going to give us tangibles? Also where you getting this black people have low self-worth from? Clearly you ain't a brotha cuz the last thing we lack is confidence in ourselves. That low self-esteem shit maybe you but don't put that shit on the rest of us. We get exploited because of white supremacy not because of self-esteem. I think I see where your problem is. You waiting for master to give you something, I'm taking mine. If you look around any industry we get a foothold in, eventually we dominate it. I'll give you examples if you need help. Peace.
Man, I am with you, but buddy is right about self esteem.
We need to familiarize ourselves with Dr. Amos Wilson, Dr. Marimba Ani, Dr. Daniel Black, any and all prominent Black (child) psychologists and psychiatrists.
Man, that Eurocentric thought process was HERE when our ancestors got here. We have been raised under it for centuries. Eurocentric conditioning has been very effective.
I thank GOD everyday I am free. That I subscribe to spirituality and not religion. That I subscribe to a conscious mindset and not a religious mindset. I thank GOD I always questioned, and not enough of that, what didn’t make logical sense.
I say all that to say, Man, our minds are not suppose to make it out. Period. You have to be so strong and driven mentally to break those chains it is nothing short of miraculous.
We spend our lives, at different rates of speed, eliminating ourselves from white culture validation And if it affects anything, it affects the identity politics of voting.
Nah, disagree, the 'disconnect' comes from the fact that there are some folks who may believe that "change".... and "reparations"... will most likely come from putting pressure on the establishment. Not from sitting out elections.
And the 2 types of PRESSURE I am talking about are...
1)
Financial PRESSURE >>> that comes from organized nonviolent actions (like boycotts) like what MLK did.
2) Or
Financial INFLUENCE >>> that comes from Lobbying to get what you want.
Here you go....
Look at
The NAACP for example... they are the LARGEST, ORGANIZED (SPECIAL INTEREST) POLITICAL GROUP THAT LOBBIES ON BEHALF of the BLACK COMMUNITY.
https://www.opensecrets.org/federal-lobbying/clients/summary?cycle=2019&id=D000054075
Look at how much the NAACP spent on Lobbying efforts to enact change......
only $550k in 2019.
The reality is that big companies, labor unions, trade associations and other influential organizations spend billions of dollars each year to lobby Congress and federal agencies. Some special interests retain lobbying firms, while others have lobbyists working in-house.
Look at
The National Association of Realtors, for example.
They are the #2 on this list of the "Biggest Spenders" on Lobbying.
https://www.opensecrets.org/federal-lobbying/top-spenders
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...ord-26-million-on-lobbying-amid-state-battles
Since 1998, the Realtors have spent
WELL OVER $600 MILLION DOLLARS in Lobbying, trying to influence government policy.
Compare that number to the NAACP's efforts since 1998... the MOST that the NAACP has ever spent in a single year is
LESS than $1 Million Dollars in lobbying.. which means that the NAACP has probably spent LESS than $12 Million Dollars (total) in Lobbying since 1998.
Over $600+ Million.... versus... Less than $12 Million.
Exactly who is going to be getting 'their calls answered' FIRST on Capital Hill??
Especially when the National Association of Realtors is just ONE 'special interest' group.
And there are literally THOUSANDS of 'special interest' groups that have Lobbyists working together.
So while all these other special interest groups are spending THAT kind of money to get their needs addressed.... exactly HOW does 'sitting out the election' begin to INFLUENCE anyone on Capital Hill to address your own issues? Hmm? Do tell.
One of the biggest problems is that some of ya'll are quick to DISMISS the black folks who realize that YES, "we need restorative justice through our government"... but we also recognize that SITTING ON YOUR ASS & NOT VOTING ACCOMPLISHES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TOWARD ANY OF THOSE OBJECTIVES & ISSUES THAT YOU CARE SO MUCH ABOUT.
It literally has the opposite effect when everyone else's vote is cast on Election Day... but not yours.
Very unfortunate.
This is the most important post in the thread.
You discussed how we should have been taught Civics in high school: Ninja, if you gonna teach me about voting then you need to teach me about lobbying.
You nailed it.
Even during the civil rights era, there was always a group acting as a fund to talk to the movement before we could even vote. We need think tanks fully funded to bully these politicians, period.
Everybody needs to watch Oliver Stone’s The Untold History of the United States.
Everybody needs to watch Get Me Roger Stone.
Just watch it.
Trust me...
