I would send my kid to the best school, with the most diverse population possible. #1 interest being able to compete globally.

I love my folks, but I can teach culture, and knowledge of self, and self confidence at home

Could not have said it better.

i would send my child to the worst school in the worst neighborhood in america, because i know that even if my child goes to the best schools possible if i am not active in their education it will be a failure.

You betcha. I went to an all black school before I went to 1st grade. Teachers wore dashikis, taught swahili, advanced english, math & african culture. I loved it & would send my kids to that type of school.

I would. Black children should have the opportunity to see other Black people achieve and be in positions of authority before being thrust into the world and having to interract with other ethnicities and cultures that already experience that in their communities.
You're better able to compete globally if you have a firm foundation and understanding of self and your own ethnic history and accomplishments.

I think OP means all black as in the hood :smh:

If the education was quality sure. For me its not the student body but I'd want my kids to see other Black ppl in positions of power and success other than their parents.

This!!
Its not about sending them to just any Black school its about sending them to one thats actually teaching them something worth a damn mainly about who they are.

Why do Black people think we have to live in diverse environments to be able to survive in this world???Thats some ol house nigga shit.

To answer the question:

We live in a multicultural society, so I rather have my kid go to a school where there is a diverse mixture of races. It will help them adapt to the general society better.

I disagree that it is some "house niggah shit" as you put it. So trying to better my kids situation is "house niggah shit" now

It is simple: Look at your place of work. It is a mixture of races for the most part, not dominated by one race. :smh:

At the end of the day, I want my kids to go to the best school available to them.

It is evident in America today that race is now more than just black, white, or Asian. We are getting more diverse.

I don't think so. It's a pretty straight forward question.

Gotcha.

Maybe I was relating this to a situation a friend had recently with his kid. Her school she started the school year in was a mostly "black" populated school.

The level of education was not the best. She started doing poorly.

He switched her to a more diversely populated school, and the level of education was better.

it comes down to providing the best situation for your child.

And if the choice was presented that my kid could go to an all black school, there has to be a reason:

--Different more advance curriculum is being taught
--My kid is exposed to just more than they will be in a regular school

There has to be some incentive to do that. :smh:

No because thats not the real world!!! The real world is dealing with all color!!!

Its evident by tha amount of responses on here about how these other races ain't fucking with Black folk in tha work place to tough so how does living and going to school around them actually help you in those situations???

Trick question man. Yes and no. Yes being they can experience what I've experienced. I learned about black history in school. My child isn't. Learn from your peers and compete with your kind. Learning how to comprehend with your kind and respecting your kind. Playing and hanging out with friends of the same. That was my yes.

My no is they won't be tested on reality. You need diversity to learn how to be diverse. You need "other" races to understand that your race isn't inferior. You need to learn about other cultures and know how to be around others without conflict. It can go both ways but whatever school it be I want him to have the finest skills they can offer him.

In my workplace, an IT company, our workforce is diverse.

I guess it depends on the kind of work one does.

I live in a diverse neighborhood with good schools, and I rather live this way than live in an all black neighborhood with bad schools, and a high crime rate.

Just my 0.02 cents.

I'd send them to an all green school if I knew they would receive a proper education there.

Most of my grade school years from 3rd-8th were at a 95% all black 7th Day Adventist school. It has its benefits. Curriculum was guided by religion of course. A lot of the kids that finished the 12th there walked easily into college.

Probably about the same percentage were lost in the streets as your average public school in Oakland though-well maybe not that bad edit. Temptation of environment is still relevant. So location is still key.

Good experience overall. So yeah I would particularly in the early years K-8. High school I think a diverse environment is good as the world starts to open up for young adults. Meeting folks from different backgrounds is a good thing in my eyes.

Let me be clear that i'm not advocating sending Black kids to any Black school just cause its Black and nothing else. That being said I wouldn't live in a Black neighborhood filled with crime either.

But my whole beef over diversity over everything is thats not tha golden answer.Saying you need to be around other people to work with them is like saying someone who grew up in Nigeria and went to college there won't be able to function in tha US or Europe because he hasn't lived and went to school with white people or other races.
Tha way you act around other people has more to do with how you were raised then where you were raised.Plenty of Black people have went to work overseas and they didn't need training outside of language if it was necessary to be around those people to be able to work in their environment.

In the real world, the people of other cultures and ethncitites they will deal with will mostly have come from other much less diverse environments. As it is right now, most schools are segregated, public and private, so most of our kids are already going to "Black" schools with a sprinkling of others in the mix.
There will be plenty of time to integrate as they get older but if everything is equal, I'd send my son to a Black school before I would send him to a more diverse one especially in the elementary/middle school years.

We always talk about how we need to do more business with each other and support each other and keep our money in our communities but here we are quick to send our children to be with other people.

i did this for babysitting and pre-school then sent them to an all black catholic school for a few years then they went to public schools in pretty good systems

I think black people as a whole need therapy like a muthafucka - the amount of self hate in this thread is incredible...So if it black, its bad, poor, not diverse and not on the same level as _______.

Seriously, Asians, Jews, Indians, and so many other groups have no problem sending their kids to homogenous schooling and real give a fuck about diversity, excellence will be accepted over faux diversity.

I know an Asian woman that is a senior VP of a major corporation and cannot speak clear english - anyone in the room have a hard time understanding her but she knows her shit and the CEO and the board said fuck it and moved her up.

As long as we feel that we are inferior than others will feel we are inferior, Whites never judge themselves on the worst of their group - black do it all the time.

Just in sheer numbers there are far more failing white school throughout this country but we only will hear about successful white schools.

There are all black schools that are successful and send all of their graduates to college. Begin to highlight the successes in our community not the failures the media wants to focus on.

We always talk about how we need to do more business with each other and support each other and keep our money in our communities but here we are quick to send our children to be with other people.

But unfortunately in our communities, the same opportunities are not available for our kids.

In GA, Fulton County, they are closing a ton of schools. It is not about sending our kids to be with the "others," I see it as providing them a better opportunity.

Yes I would...White schools don't give a damn about black kids to begin with.

This is off-topic but why do we as a race fight so hard to get our kids into white grade schools under the guise of "better opportunities" (even though we still ain't succeeding as a whole in those white schools) yet we are adamant that black colleges and universities are more than capable of educating our young black adults?
