I'm not sure what had happened in recent decades, and not certain on others' experience within the same, but I got a very good education from DCPS at that was at least 90% black dating back to the 80s. In elementary school, I remember distinctly getting a good sense of who I was, because we celebrated and had decorations of famous Africans and Black American inventors, scientists, kings, queens, etc. Our teachers always taught us OUR history. IN JHS, I had encountered a more diverse environment but whites were still the minority. In high school I had some old school soldier type teachers. One of them that died recently told us "Don't let THEM pimp you!" They brought out the best in us. If I found a school system with that type of attitude and rigor, hell yes. When I got to college I was surprised at the fact that many of the black kids from in-State had to take Africana Studies just to learn what I had in the previous 12 years.
