Thanks for this drop.

It's good that people are seeing that there are options instead of giving up before looking.

Also good to let other black people see that it should be a consideration in your child's development.

From pre K to high school, my son has been to at least 3 different schools that were overwhelmingly Black with sprinklings of others and they've all been good public schools. The private school a few minutes from my house (Brisbane Academy) is a high quality Black school.
Somehow I doubt Charlotte is this exclusive enclave of quality schools for Black children.

I might take some time to do research, but honestly (not even being funny, or a smart ass, or sarcastic at all) do not think here are such schools in GA.

Again, I might be wrong.

Very thought provoking, and a thread that ignites such discussions. Even with the disagreements, it is still a very healthy discussion

We can have this thread and we can list such schools, that we deem as good for blacks. It could be a start of something.

You're in Ga, I'm not but there is no way all those "high falutin'" negroes you got down there send their children to run down schools, especially in the suburban Atlanta areas.

Yeah, definitely.....

I really think that with so much being available via the internet, that we have a unique opportunity to collaborate and get the best for our kids.

They is no reason like minded parents can't use social media tools to collaborate and create strategies to get the most out of the education system.

There are a lot of private christian or church affiliated schools here that people generally use.

This has peaked my interest to the point where I plan to search.

I did a search in Google for "Black Private schools in Atlanta" and the first link I clicked on (a sponsored ad) had a banner with white kids in it. :hmm:

That is tragically funny.

I'm sure they just used a stock photo of school kids

Those stock photos would have mostly white people making up a large percentage of the content of pictures.

They just need to take down the stock photo and take a photo themselves that reflect the composition of the school.

I came to the same conclusion but for them to make that kind of oversight is amazing and telling to me.

Nah, a lot of people just go with the default stock image and never get around to doing a custom photo shoot.

Outside of 1st to 5th grade...ive never attended white majority schools nor have I ever been to a public school of any kind....I think there is a very distinct difference in how all that plays out in ya wk environment / corporate...& it gives you a very different out look & overstanding in an academic environment...

I get that completely but the fact that no one in charge looked at that and saw something wrong would keep me away from them. They don't have the type of attention to detail I would appreciate.

I would give them the benefit of the doubt.

Not everyone is tech savvy.

My 1 st PR stuff was stock photos until it evolved.

Allocating resources can be a challenge sometimes.

The other explanation maybe that they are appealing to those black folks who thing white is right so that if they have pics of white kids, some black people would feel that if whites want to attend then it must be good.

Something has to be done. The statistics about Detroit Public schools are horrendous.:( But I guess when you look at the way the school board members act, you see why the kids fail.:smh:

:smh::smh::smh:

I think OP means all black as in the hood :smh:

Perfection! Chicago's Urban Prep Academy Graduates Entire Class

69114070_0.jpg

Big shout out to Chicago’s Urban Prep Academy! The school reached an incredible milestone, graduating every senior for the third year in a row. The only all-African-American, all-male charter high school in Chicago has not only graduated the entire class, but all have been accepted to college.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the academy also said that 83 percent of its first graduating class in 2010 has re-enrolled in a second year of college, a rebuttal to critics of the school who has charged that students aren't always ready for college.

But Urban Prep CEO Tim King denied that troubled students are forced out or encouraged to leave saying:

"We take the opposite view. We devote time and energy to those students so that they understand they can do well and they can have success if they modify their behavior."

King announced this year's perfect college rate at an assembly at Urban Prep's Englewood campus earlier this morning.

Urban Prep's success in making college a reality for African-American children from tough, low-income neighborhoods has won national attention.

Last year's graduation rate for African-American males in Chicago Public Schools (CPS) was 44 percent. About half of those who graduate enroll in college, according to CPS.

Urban Prep spends about $12,000 per pupil, far more than a typical CPS school. Once students graduate, the school stays in touch with them.

A rigorous alumni department brings students in over the summer to familiarize them with the challenges ahead and continues to contact graduates twice a month by phone, email or on Facebook.

It is an amazing program they have at Chicago’s Urban Prep, congrats to the graduating class of 2012!

You betcha. I went to an all black school before I went to 1st grade. Teachers wore dashikis, taught swahili, advanced english, math & african culture. I loved it & would send my kids to that type of school.

So you went to an all black day care ?

I do think there needs to be diversity not only in the student population but in the faculty.

I am more concerned with what is taught than I am by who is learning it.

Our kids need to experience more than just what they see in the hood because when they are forced into the real world it will not be just black.

We can read this board everyday and see a large amount of posters who have difficulty navigating the real world that has people not like us in it.

If they live in a poor hood with a high crime rate ,it is more important that they see people that look like them that don't live like them. That don't have to sleep on the floor to avoid stays.

So I think its important that black kids get a diverse education and experience but also get a better world view of black people so they see that we have successful people and success is attainable.

Who in their right mind would send their child to an all black school? If the goal is for your child to get the best possible education I would highly object to it.

Black schools are notoriously underfunded. Plus black American kids are a fucking joke. They Are more interested in being the class clown than learning. No fucking thank you. My kid would go to the best prep school I could afford.

Now, if the majority of the students were African I might consider. They seem to take their studies seriously. American black kids are a fucking joke.:smh:

Why don't you STFU all the time?

Providing the provide proper/competitive education

math
science etc..

most definitely.

It depends on the school. If the school is excelling, I wouldn't care what race is predominant in that school. I went to both an all-black school, and a mostly white school. I've learned many things in both cases.

So you went to an all black day care ?

The African School ranged from grades 1-6. I attended 1st grade there cuz I tested well & moms wanted to take advantage of that by having me start 1st grade early. When it was time to attend public school, the school district didn't recognize the African School as an accredited state school. So, I had to repeat the 1st grade.

I went to several different schools growing up
I been to:

*All White Schools - formal education and understanding how to deal with them have been important in my professional life

*All Black Schools - the schools I went to garbage in a formal education sense but You learn life lessons about determination, focus, and what it takes to make it.

*Spanish/Black schools - same as asbove

same here - i've seen both sides & prefer an all black learning environment (students and teachers) w/ the only diversity being socioeconomics

we needed to fight for equality however that "integration" fucked us up
