This whole diversity notion is nonsense. If there is so much diversity in schools why doesnt it reflect in society? People go to school to learn their place in society. Until we fix this racism problem we will not achieve OUR goals. Another thing, as a whole , WE ARE THE MOST ACCEPTING PEOPLE ON THE PLANET. We eat everybody elses food, wear everybody elses clothes, buy at everybody elses stores, etc. Being accepting of other peoples culture is not our issue. We need to develop ours. I understand someone using the best school available for their child due to their circumstances. But for us to get out of this situation as a whole community we need our own schools. That way we dont have to move to live a better life. People will move into OUR neighborhoods. And I'm sure we would let them cause thats our way.
My son went to an all black high school......or 99% black in Chicago and when it was time for college he went to a school that was 90% white.
Before his junior year of HS he went to France and Switzerland in the Sports Ambassador program.
In today's world you'd be doing a disservice to your kid. It's a proven fact that Black schools are under funded, don't have the best Teachers, or school buildings. Why all Black anyways ? When the kid goes to work or out in the real world it won't be all Black. Better get your child eyes open on how to deal with other races as well as the Black race.
Not to survive, but to relate/deal with other cultures and realize people of different colors can have similar backgrounds. Those experiences or lack thereof do carry over to adult life.
I had a lil of everything in my schooling
K thru 6 - Catholic, 99% white
7 thru 12 - College prep, mixture of just about all cultures (~40% black), named #1 high school in the state
College - HBCU, 85% black
I would follow a similar path with my kids, maybe a more diverse elementary school

If you care to dispute it, present your own information but while I was at Howard we were shown studies that show the same thing. Just for the record, the highest white college graduation rate for blacks attending is Georgia State (aside from University of Phoenix). And you know what their graduation percentage is for blacks within 6 years?

I would want to ...but extremes are tough....all white...no....

i would send my child to an all black high school...i went to one and my teachers told the students some real shit there public school teachers would never tell us. Till this day, a lot of what i learned there has helped me.
Wouldn't they know they live in a country thats a lot more white than Black??So what exactly do they need to understand??

How about some of the people screaming "hell no" come in and show some comparisons with black graduation rates between HBCU's and PWC's. And also show the numbers in the pay differential between the two. I'm willing to bet that won't happen because people love going by a false perception.

My kid started out at an all black private school. He was getting mostly A's and some B's but when it came to standardized tests, he was doing around the 70% range. Now, he is in a mixed, mostly white school. His standardized test grades went up around 10 points.

I would if you had to pay, taught more than American history, and the school was highly regarded for it's academics.

i'm considerin' some form of home schoolin'.. like a co-operative home schooling program....at least for grades k-6... and most if not all the instructors should be black...
i think those years are far too important...and i need to be in control of what my children see..hear..learn and do...for those years...

I went to an HBCU, and after the first two weeks I felt like my mother did me a disservice by having me in multi-cultured (mostly black) public schools. If I have the means my kids are going to go to black schools. These public schools are just pre-penetentaries.
there is a difference between living with them and working in an academic setting with them....
academic racism is real
the first time you are in a college setting with white students who are double checking your calculations because they don t think the black guy can do math.....
and if you have interacted with whites in that setting....you let that shit slide off you....

I was just about to post this. While I will continue to educate my child on his culture and history, I just believe having him go to a school where everyone looks just like him will not prepare him to live in a world of diversity. It's not about forgetting or not learning about where he came from, its about preparing him for where he is going, and the world is becoming more culturally intertwined every day...
I want the COMPLETE education experience for my son, no less...

Just because someone disagrees with your position, it doesn't lessen yours, you just see things differently... But... since they aren't lined up with your perception of what a black person should do in this case, immediately 'House Nigga'
Really No one at least I didn't say that's what they NEED to survive, but it also is not a bad thing to understand other cultures and people. Just because white people overall have historically been negative for black people, doesn't mean all of the are, same with Muslims, people of middle eastern descent, etc. I don't want my son growing up to generalize races on the acts of others, but be educated enough in the complete human nature, to be able to discern who's who, and adjust accordingly... He will have a tremendous knowledge of who he is and who he came from, but I will play the biggest role in educating him on who he is, and I won't allow him to become socially imbalanced in the process...
As far as elementary through High school, that will be my choice since he is under age, and he will not be going to any all black schools during his foundational years. However, I do know here are definitely some amazing All Black schools out there, and if my son wants to go to one, his college choice will be his decision, I will support him 1000%, however I will offer him advise of the pros and cons of the decision, and let him do him. I'm just not going to force him either way...

There is a lot of diversity in today's world and I want my kids exposed to people of all races, cultures and languages. The ultimate goal of a parent is to raise your kids with values and groom them to learn a skill by which they can earn enough money to support themselves and their families.
I believe that schooling them in a diverse environment will give them the best opportunity to achieve this.
