This is the same shit Gerald LeVert went through with that group he put out (Written All Over Your Face). Gerald wrote and produced all of the songs and got radio play for the songs, and they got mad when he made most of the money.

You know the business Chuck, Cube was the star, not one of these cats he signed besides Maxk 10 ever made any moves without him.

Also, when their group was beefing, one of the members accused another member of the group of fucking Eazy's widow which caused them even more problems and created more of a division. I can't remember who said it though.

They said it was the light skinned cat that did it. All kinds of fucked up rumors about that shit. I stayed way out of it.

Anyway, I reiterate: This dude is talking out the side his neck. These dudes relationships were way more complex that the movie showed.

Ren was at, and performed with Dre at the Death Row release party for GF entertainment. So the lines were always blurred. The only cat that stayed loyal to Eazy was Yella, cause he needed the shine.

The production style called "G FUNK" was created by the two men on either side of Dr. Dre, Big Hutch(right) a.k.a. Cold 187um and Laylaw(left). Hutch is the lead rapper and man in charge of Rap group, Above The Law. He is also the nephew of legendary R&amp;B singer/producer/songwriter extraordinaire, Willie Hutch. Many of you know Willie Hutch from his heavily sampled soundtrack for the cult classic film, "The Mack", which have turned into songs like "International Player's Anthem" for UGK &amp; Outkast and "Definition Of A Thug Ni***" for 2PAC just to name a couple. If D.O.C. Is the "official unofficial" 6th member of N.W.A., then Laylaw is the 7th! He was right there assisting in many production duties for the 3 N.W.A. albums. Law and his production, along with the LA uprising, were responsible for changing 2PAC's "Troublesome 21" into "Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z...." When Above The Law was trying to get on, they were brought to Eazy's attention by Law, who's brother Go Mack, was one of their DJ's. Their debut album was their demo and surprisingly polished for a new group. When they signed, all Dre did was re-fit some tracks. Above The Law's second project, "Vocally Pimpin'"(listen for yourself) was basically the blueprint for what would become Dre's musical taste during the time of making his beyond classic, "The Chronic". During this time, Hutch was working with an up and coming rapper named, Snooper Duper. Working so much together, either Hutch sounded like Snooper or Snooper sounded like Hutch. Snooper also happened to be good friends with Dre's step brother, Warren, who eventually brought him to meet his brother. The rest as they say is musical history layered in Platinum records. Law would go on to become A&amp;R over at Aftermath. Hutch would eventually go on to run Deathrow Records for a sec when Suge was in jail, BTW, if you know Dre, you will notice he doesn't work with "older" artists or artists that have previously been out and haven't had a hit a quite some time. So why would you think Dre put Hutch on his new "COMPTON" album? Feelings of guilt for jacking his style maybe? Not getting publishing is one of the reasons these cat's was broke in the first place!!

Doc sold all of his rights to Eazy for like 10K and some drank!

There was this cat I knew back in the from Dallas named Dazzlin Pran. He was in an earlier version of the Fila Fresh Crew, but he kept in touch with D.O.C. He once told me that Doc writing verses for Dre in exchange for new furniture for his crib sometimes, instead of publishing, which now I know that E got.

Part of the story is true. Hutch has dope ideas, but can't bring them out fully. Dre tightened up all his sloppy production and polished it up. Sony felt, and David Glew the President of Epic Bragged that Above the Law would be their first gold Rap album.

For the hype (Murder Rap banned by MTV) and overall money they spent, the shit was a flop. This is where it gets funny, and why cat's are dumb as rocks.

They go into Epic and tell Hank Caldwell and Glew that Dre didn't produce the album, Hutch did copping pleas and shit. Well, Epic was like, no wonder that shit didn't sell and made they drop an EP of their own production.

They dropped that Garbage ass Vocally Pimpin shit and got dropped.

Dre got his G-funk from Rhythm D. He was one of the first producers on Death Row and that is the sound he brought to the table. Just like the entire attitude of Snoop was Lord 3-2 of the Convicts who were supposed to be the first Group off Death Row, but Lil J wouldn't release them.

Once I get back to the house I think it's time I finally drop off a couple of joints from the early days of the Row.

Now for the AG on IG Soapbox side of things..... As a result of the ENORMOUS success of "Straight Outta Compton", the makers of the planned "TUPAC" film have now been put on notice. What you have here in the PAC film some may argue is THE most important individual story in the annals of Hip Hop/Rap music. The ABSOLUTE KEY to any biopic is THE MUSIC! Not alternative versions. Not out takes. Not Remixes. THE ACTUAL SONGS THAT BOTH YOU, I, AND THE ENTIRE WORLD FELL IN LOVE WITH! I am not getting that reassurance that those rights are firmly secured. You see what made "RAY", "Straight...", or even "NOTORIOUS" that much more compelling is that very fact. The problem with PAC's legacy, is that it is strewn across different labels. Whereas they might have the backing of Warner Brothers and the first three albums tied to them, the folks who now own Deathrow, I surmise want a significant piece of the pie which in turn is a whole 'nother complex situation. I understand his Mother's reluctance here. On one hand she would like to tell the story of her son whom she knew as the poet and activist whereas We want THE LEGEND. The biggest or let's say THE MOST INFLUENTIAL figure in the history of Hip Hop to which 85% of these folks rapping are trying to copy off his test today. I do not want Afeni to miss some key points like some people feel Ms. Wallace did with BIG's story and it not sit well with people so in turn the movie suffers. Afeni probably wants the movie huge and if she can't get that, then not do it at all. This is a legacy that you can't bastardize. It is better suited for a mini series than 2 1/2 hours. The N.W.A. Project worked well because two of the principles are so entrenched in American Pop culture that they were already known to audience unfamiliar to the project. Casting? If you don't have someone who can carry that weight DO NOT DO IT! "Straight..." was lucky that all those over runs and takes....never mind that's too much inside info. But you get the drift...

Cube isn't the most fair dude. He is a style jacker, and has been since his days in CIA, but as far as the business, he's doing it just like the CAC's. Brothers thought it was going to be on some homie shit.

The one thing I can say is incorrect is when he says know one else complained.

Even though they've always shown love to Eazy I've seen countless interviews through the years where Bone have complained about how terrible their contracts were and how bad they got jerked at Ruthless so it wasn't just Dre, Cube, and the D.O.C.

Even on the unsung though, they said the problems began when he died. Before he died he made sure they were taken care of to which she replied that she could only do what the estate allowed...

With every first record deal record labels should include the phrase "You Know You Done F***** Up, Right?" It is an inevitable right of passage. Most artists do not realize until 6 months in when checks are due and they're like, "Haaaaaay wait a minute! What happened to my dough? I sold all dem songs???" Yo-Yo's UNSUNG was cool but she left out a HELLUVA LOT! I'm glad she touched on her relationship with PAC but I understand why she couldn't go into detail because when you were his woman like 8 other women would be saying the same thing! I did not like the fact she did not mention when you're signed to a production company(Street Knowledge) first and then a label(East West America) the bread is sliced even more ways out of your pocket. Young Yolanda Whitaker thought she hit the "Motherlode" when she signed with the hottest rapper in the game at the time, Ice Cube, and a female label exec who was all about female empowerment, Sylvia Rhone and her East West Records. As a result of the times, the first album was a "street success" which means everyone knew about it BUT, that doesn't translate into sales. Yeah you are famous but you are broke. She appeared as an act in tour with Cube but as always with him, your not getting a separate check from the promoter, Cube is going to pay you and pay you in "shine" not $$$$. Once Cube and "others" fell out with Sylvia Rhone, Yo-Yo and the rapper KAM, both signed to Street Knowledge and Sylvia, were doomed. There's entirely too much to type in this story because it should be a Lifetime movie and Yo-Yo can play herself. But, there's no "white man" beating N***** out of there money here so I wonder....

#AGonIGSoapbox: I wanted to post a lot of things today but not before I acknowledged the 50th Anniversary of the ASSASSINATION of arguably the most important figure in the history of Black Music, SAM COOKE. Sam is the reason that today We have all these so-called label owners/artists combos. He was not only the first but THE BEST. Again as I posted before, his roster included FIVE quintuple 1st ballot HOFers: The Rolling Stones, Bobby Womack, Sonny & Cher, Lou Rawls, and Johhnie Taylor. Sam was killed by his own business partner and the DEVIL HIMSELF, Allen Klein(bottom right) for that very said roster. Klein forced Ms. Bertha Lee Franklin(top right) to take the rap for Sam's death under the guise of, "Some drunk nude guy tried to rape me and I didn't recognize who I shot." BULLS***!!!!!!!!!!!!! SAM WAS ONLY THE MOST RECOGNIZABLE BLACK MAN IN THE U.S.(besides MLK)!! Klein wanted SAR(Sam and Allen Records which he turned into ABKCO Records) for himself and knew Sam found out that Allen was cheating him out of money and was firing him immediately. Sam was The first 2PAC. Militant, driven, ALL of the women wanted to sleep with him and ALL of the men wanted to be him. Sam was Jay Z. Smooth, effortless, and business minded. The man ALL his peers looked up to. He was so large that he wasn't subject to the L.A. Jim Crow laws of the day. He was killed because Allen was jealous. Sam looked at a girl and it was "Splash. Waterfalls." Just because Allen WORKED WITH AND for Sam, The Beatles signed over a part of their publishing to him! Sam was THE personification of Black Excellence.
