I officially have a problem with Chris Rock's movie "Good Hair"

Some males that want to have the fro look use those "blow out" kits and they have chemicals in them as well as perms. But I recently did a Brazilian Keratin Treatment on my hair which lets your hair stay straight for 3-4 months then wears off then back to normal but I guess I did it wrong cause soon as I put some conditioner and got in the shower my shit blew right back up but it's way more easier to manage and I haven't seen a tangle or knot since which enables me to retain more length instead of cutting knots and tangles out all the time.

Well all I can say is not every black woman that is natural or wants to become natural wants dreads. Believe me it's not easy. I still haven't figured out what my natural hair likes and it's been almost a year.

Good luck on the self discovery............

Imma have to ask you to refrain calling every black woman a "bitch". Anyway since I went natural black co-workers have done nothing but clown me except the time I had a foxy brown fro lol Other than that I get all kind of jokes or are told to put a perm in it blah blah. Straight hair is cool WAY EASIER TO MANAGE THAN NATURAL HAIR trust me. If I ever got a perm again it would simply be because of that fact. Getting tired of having tangles/knots and whatever. I shouldn't have to fight with my hair everyday detangling and whatever else but it's something I choose to do everyday now. The men that talk the most mess about black women that perm their hair are the ones with the caesars and low cut fades yall don't let your hair grow long enough to deal with half the shit we do with natural hair. Anyway that's all. Oh and yes some women do perm their hair to be white but not all. For most of us it's all we know being that a relaxer is slapped into our heads from the time we are kids...

Oh yeah to the OP if you can name another race more concerned with their hair than black women I would like to know about them. Lonestar29 is natural and has some long pretty hair and some fool said her hair was nappy...like come on that mentality is how most black men look at a natural black women unless her hair is like Mya/Chillis. If your hair happens to be like Macy Gray you need a perm in their eyes.

watup sucka... long time. yea I feel u on the straight hair being easier to manage part. i dont even have beef with perms/ weaves/ wigs whatever. just wish women would understand that they have more options than that. nothing wrong with rocking it natural.

Why do we keep putting the wrong spotlight on ourselves?

it's like we are prone to self-destruct.

Asians are having eye surgery, no documentary/movie

White girls are slutting out more than ever, no documentary/movie

To Catch a Predator, they got that shit cancelled with the quickness.

This hair issues is not a black woman issue.

It is a woman issue and as such he should have also focused on other groups but as usual its so easy to beat up on black people...........

Shut yo ass up. You have a problem with every damn thing. If have an issue with the movie don't go see it GTHOH. Stop crying every damn time. Damn You bitch made niggas.

You wouldn't believe how much easier lol when I did the BKT I was like oh shit I can see my scalp orr WHOA I can part my hair like butter it's sad simple things like that when I was permed was taken for granted now that I'm natural I kind of miss the ease of it all but I'm going to give this natural stuff a lil longer and see how it turns out maybe another year.

A Cur

Cur refers to a mutt, a dog of mixed ancestry, typically characterized as one who tends to growl frequently rather than maintain calm.

How's that job working out for you?
Got enough bus tokens? Food in the fridge?

Okie dokie.

Working out fine 2 more years and ill be "fully vested".

No need for a bus when you have a car. You could put some food in my fridge though just water and a lightbulb in there for the most part lol

Extensions = weave

Same difference...........

I see Oprah didn't touch the hair straightening thing..........

A lot of white bitches wear weave/extension to try to fluff up their limp stringy lil hair and I have seen them in the beauty supply buying hair and in the salon getting it done and everyone else just looking at each other like :hmm: :smh:

Don't forget they also put a different type of horrible perm in their hair desperate to give that thin lil shit some type of volume :smh:

these black men don't care though.

They don't see the big picture.

I hope the movie calls out everybody cause a lot of white women buy that shit..........

Educating white people?

Do you think this movie is about educating anyone?

Now every black woman will be under a spotlight.

i don't like this approach at all.

Maybe he could have shown the economics of the industry and how the Koreans have come to dominate and monopolize it.

But this? Dunno...............

The film actually does. Have you seen it, or just the clips? I generally appreciate your posts as they are insightful, but in this case I think you should see the film. It's too bad that everything that's done by our culture has to be compared to another culture to measure its worth.

I PERSONALLY HOPE THAT
HE CLOWNS SO BADLY THAT WOMEN REALIZE HOW UNNECESSARY
WEAVE REALLY IS AND EVOLVE TO WHERE THE SHIT IS OUTDATED AND
NO LONGER AN ACCEPTABLE CHOICE WHILE REALIZING
THE TRUE BEAUTY IN BEING MORE NATURAL.
GET AWAY FROM THE WHITE MANS IDEA OF WHAT BEAUTY IS
AND EMBRACE OUR NATURAL STATE AS BEAUTY.

I CAN TELL YOU THIS THERE ARE WOMEN
WHO ARE ADDICTED TO WEAVE AND SHIT LIKE IT.
MAYBE THIS WILL SERVE AS A SEED PLANTING MISSION
TO HELP THEM SEE THE TRUTH.

IM OPTIMISTIC.
BUT THINKS MOST OF IT
WILL FALL ON DEAF PERM FILLED EARS.:hmm:

C/S all the way...Ive defended natural black hair for a while now. I even tell my white buddies that theres no creativity to what people who have naturally straight hair can do it to it. Okay a mohawk (but we can do that too) and gel it to friz it up. Black folks can do a myriad of things with our hair such as twists, locks, cornrolls, dreds, braids, etc. we have the creative edge by far. (I think its hilarious when I see white folks get cornrolls and locks though).

After looking at the trailer and hearing that dude say 9 Billion dollars are spent on black hair care, My jaw dropped. But I also had to remember that economically speaking, the black hair care industry is an economic staple for black women and koreans alike. You take away the perms, relaxers, and weaves and you lose alot of jobs/careers. So brotha kaya, whats the trade-off. Have alot of people out of business/jobs (including black women and some men) and reroute those financial resources to other areas or maintain the industry as it is but steer alittle towards a more "natural" oriented theme?

I will say that black women as a whole have to take a look at the importance of maintaining "good hair" when it starts to affect their financial and health situation(a la all the comments about black women not wanting to hit the gym due to "I just got my hair done you crazy")

plenty of jobs for locs twists and braids too if the chem hair women convert I guess just the koreans lose out on the fake hair but do we really care about them?

There are so many themes when it comes to hair.

You have hair extensions/weave

Hair straightening: whether relaxers or flat irons.

It was just ironic that Oprah took out her weave for the show but was tossing around her straightened hair like that too wasn't a problem.

I don't know man, it all comes down to identity issues all women have.

If it was about what black men liked then black women would be all natural but it is more about women competing amongst themselves, women being women's worst enemy..............

I do see a need for this issue to be addressed. Many black women are taught to hate their hair from early on. Honestly, I didn't even know that natural was an option for me. I just thought that black women had to perm their hair and that's what had to be done, unless you were biracial. It took me a minute to learn about my hair and even to go out with a fro but I have rocked it out and held my head high because I know my hair is beautiful. It's too long for a fro now, though.

As for those asian stores, I won't spend a dime there anymore. I saw a documentary about how they shut black businesses out of the hair care industry and black women are just making them rich! If I need to go to a beauty supply store, I look it up online to find one that is black owned.

I'm going to try to catch this movie when I can and I hope a lot of other black women can change their mentality about their hair.

I think it's necessary BUT I hate the fact that it's broadcasted for the whole to view. This shit will be seen worldwide. Hahahaha. Koreans should be boycotting it.

I also hate when whites enjoy this kind of movie. What I think is funny and what they think is funny about black people are completely different beasts.

Having said that, if this movie doesn't move people to stop burning their hair then post the hair care stock labels kaya, I need to up my retirement fund :smh:

It's sad how outsiders believe in exploiting us more than we believe in ourselves. :smh: The man who creates the fail safe method to eradicate razor burn will beat out Bill Gates in economic wealth.

I think dudes who have a problem with it see the movie as Chris giving other races ammo by creating a new black stereotype "black women don't like their real hair", and that's why one poster was talking about how whites and asians don't do stuff like this.

I'll wait until I see the finished product before I judge it.
