I NEED A WATCH ( post ur choices)

Don't know if you decided yet, but just wanted to say you may take that orange monster talk with a grain of salt. On two separate occasions folks had me amped up to get that watch and thankfully I resisted. Then I realized that the watch has a cult-like following. It is still a good watch, but for about the same price you can get this, which has the exact same movement but in a much classier case.

I don't even own this watch, but I'm pretty sure it will be my next. I'm not trying to shit on monster fans, but that orange dial is not doing it at all for me. I just figured I'd offer an option. Also that president bracelet might not come stock.

Check out watchyouseek.com for good reviews and pics.

I think that people buy watches for different reasons. For some, Function is most important, be it altimeter/ barometer/ compass for hikers/campers (in the case of suunto and pathfinders talked about) or diving timers/counters/depth meters and on. Others may want a watch for its toughness or even for its affordability. Still others just like something that looks good to them based on their own personal sense of style, or the "image" they wish to project- be it tough, earthy, smooth, classic, refined, etc.

I guess I said all that to say that your own reasons for buying a particular piece may not be shared by everyone. That doesn't make anyone else wrong for liking what they like- nor your for liking what you like.

Furthermore, this specific thread was dedicated to watches- and that is why guys are posting the flyest or their favorites. Now you have guys coming in here calling others irresponsible - broke - whores ... based on what? a watch? Guys can really tell that much about another's finances or lifestyle or sexual practices based on the watch he likes? C'MON MAN.... :smh:
How about we stick to the subject of watches and save the analysis of the board members- whom I presume no one knows ANYTHING about, for another... time?

Let it be known, I never gave any analysis on the financial stability, irresponsibility, etc. of anyone else. That is simply not my style.

Your point is well taken on the reason(s) why folks buy watches/timepieces. I merely gave my opinion on the matter of timepieces, a subject near and dear to my heart as a collector. The fact that others gave opinions as well leaves me to believe they are accepted in this post. Are they not?

I don't believe one could tell anything about another individuals finances, lifestyle, or sexual practice based upon one's watch. Did my statement leave you to believe this is/was the case? If so, I apologize for the misinterpretation.

I do, however, believe that one can tell a ton about one's sense of style, which is also up for individual interpretation and opinion. Nonetheless, to each his or her own.

Yeah, i didn't see where you derided anybody for their watch. You just gave your opinion on what a watch says about a man. Just like women and rings.
@ bmorebigman;
The first part of my comments were in reaction to your statements. I'm of the opinion that one man's reasons for buying any particular watch are his and his alone. I don't disagree with your opinion that your choice of timepiece broadcasts your sense of style and can absolutely be a sound investment as well as an heirloom; I just don't think that the main reason for anyone to buy a watch should be financial. I made those statements with respect for your opinion, as it is valid and appreciated here in the forum.

My second statement; (from "Furthermore" onward) was not directed at you, but in response to another post that followed shortly after yours. My apologies are offered for any offense that may have been taken. I believe the poster makes inflammatory statements to provoke reaction and as such, I will not quote them, but I still felt the need to respond- mostly to keep the thread from devolving.

To get back on track, I find it interesting that my last few purchases (excepting the latest, analog) have been digital, multifunction "plastic"( albeit somewhat expensive plastic) outdoors watches. I mentioned this to my S.O, and she laughed, replying to the effect of "you spend all your ****ing time outside anyway, camping, canoeing, hiking etc, why wouldn't you wear a solar/digital watch? You'd tear up a Tag"
I guess if the shoe fits... :dunno: I realized that I've spent a couple-three grand in the last year on about a dozen watches- and resolved (with the help of she who will not be named) to forego any watch purchases for 2011. If I can go the whole year without buying one (or without her finding out) then I will spend a couple stacks on something really nice. I have my eye on a nice Bell & Ross- it's a lot of cheddar though....

This would probably be played out pretty quickly, but it would be cool to if there were "apps" available that were interpretations of different watch dials. so you could have 100 different "watches" all in one.

Which one is that? the 007/009? It is a little too classy for me. I love the monster's chunkiness, and I'm not afraid to punish it. I think the scratches/dings give it more character. I guess the orange is subjective. I was all set to order the black monster.. (no homo) and decided on a whim to get the orange instead. I love it now.

Very nice watch. Classy. Timeless. Always been a Sea Dweller fan myself.

I was going to buy the 36mm two tone date just back in 05 but it was too small so I got the submariner. I was in awe when I saw the new 41mm date just today. I need to work harder in the next 6 months.

Here's a pic of the exact one that I saw and want. It's now called the datejust ii

Picture is from eBay.

Yeah man, that shit is now $13k:eek: for a tt blue sub.

I got a killer hook up from an authorized dealer in 05. 28pct discount for a cash sale. At today's prices, I will have to buy a slightly used one:(

Another way to buy them is when you're on vacation in Jamaica. The prices there are 10pct less and you can ask for a discount and still not pay a fucking sales tax.

I should've posted the model, sorry. That B&R is a beast, what does it go for? I do understand what you're saying about the om, and I will probably get one eventually just because it's so versatile, but right now I need the most bang for the buck and it doesn't do that.
I've got an spb001 coming and from all I've read, I should love it. My first >$500 watch, I gotta take baby steps, can't afford a breitling.

Yeah an AD at 28% was a damn good deal! I went Grey Mkt. and only got 20% off when I got my Sub through a reputable Grey dealer in MD. I wouldn't do new at today's rates either, It's insane, You know Rolex keeps upping the $$$ faster than inflation. They're also notorious for price protection.

I have a second sub date, which I don't wear too often, my Grandfather gave me when he passed a few years back. He bought it in 1978, and there's no way he paid even 1/4 of what I got offered for it when I had it appraised.

i dont know if you have like an unclaimed jeweler where you are but you can catch the one people put on layaway and never came back from at good prices at one of those places.

this is what got the shit almost sets it's self with eco drive. it needs no battery runs off ligth

I have this watch too. Its a great watch. Eco drives are my favorite watches so I kind of collect them. Just don't leave any eco drives in in your sock drawer for 2 years like I did. The battery drains completely, then you have to reset the entire watch. Took me a while to figure out. I didnt even look at the CD they give you. LOL.

I wear this sky hawk - blue angel for every day. Had that shit for almost 4 years. Its rock solid and it never let me down.

This one is my favorite of the eco drives I own. Its not the most expensive eco drive, but it has that classic, clean look to it. Plus my kids got it for me when we were the on a cruise for Christmas a while back. Special piece to me.

I tried really hard my self to like that watch, I really don't see the appeal in Orange dial. The Black Monster I can do.

Sup people, trying to get a decent watch, post your choices please.

I was just looking at this watch: (sorry about the tiny pic)
It's 50mm and goes for 299 Euros. I really like the mix of North Carolina blue and the stainless steel.
I posted a link below.

HAPPY HUNTING!

:hotdamn: that looks like a porn star, to me! I've always wanted a moon phase Patek, but that bitch prolly costs about the same as a nice whip. :smh:

I don't knock another man's taste and I don't consider myself a watch snob, but I can't get with johnny-come-latelies making watches...Kenneth Cole, Michael Kors, Ed Hardy?...do what you do best...make shoes and stuff..

I don't wear jewelry, so a watch is my one piece. I don't want anything flashy....anymore..just a nice joint I can rock at any occasion and eventually pass on to my son.

Heading to the outlet over memorial Day weekend. The Fossil store sells some mean ass Diesel watches.

Hopefully they have a good selection when I go.

A client wore this to my office today and I spent the whole time looking at it. Under $200
