How much money a single person needs to earn to get by in every U.S. state

This kind of thread get posted like 2 to 4 times a year. And you will see a few " you need $200k to live in NYC" posts :smh:
People are mistaking living vs surviving.
What you need to live and what you need to survive are two different things.

Living is having enough money left over after taxes, paying bills, etc...and being able to save money easy, to be able to do extra shit with minimum issues, etc....

Surviving is spending most of your money on pure survival.
The latter is what this study is about (the minium needed for a single person to survive without government assistance).

Come on OP, your screen name should tell you this list is flawed! I live in NOVA and there's no way you can make it up here on 34k and 12k in housing per year! They must be talking about living in a storage facility!

Yeah, this would be better if they did it by cities. 34k in NoVA will have you turning to a life of crime to make ends meet.

California is largely a wasteland of ugly drought ridden topography, white trash, border jumping scum and farming grounds outside of metro pockets like LA and the bay.
Man FOH that goes for all states . Outside of any major metro you have that. Knock it off. Outside of Atlanta you have klansman and white trash everywhere. Outside of DC in rural VA you got the same shit including Illegals and MS13 killing people.

You the idiot pushing back on numbers given for a state of 40million as if the living cost in the Bay defines the whole.

The state is largely trash. Half of which is on fire or sitting on unstable fault lines. Shit, that number may be too high for that shit stop.

Speaking of shit stops... NJ looks like a city sized toilet right now. Shame.

A home in the shittiest parts of California cost as much as nice homes around the rest of the country. You couldn’t even afford Bakersfield but you acting like only two areas are unaffordable to most. You don’t know what the fuck you’re even talking about.

Dude, I had no idea Seattle was so damn expensive! BTW, DMV will give Cali a run for its money, as far as cost of living.

Yeah - it definitely can add up. We're about 3 hours from there. Have some family that still live there, but others have passed on or moved over to Olympia, WA (dad's side of the family - his dad was 1 of 11 kids). Pre-covid, we'd usually visit them a few times a year.

If you live in southern California and you don't have a car... you're basically fucked. Our transit system is not up to par with other states.

An eighty mile commute one way is normal here. So gasoline prices are factored into monthly budgets in a major way. You can be on the freeway for an hour and thirty minutes (one way) easily.
Other states? Shidddd majority of the states have shit transit or no transit at all

No, outside of ATL is metro ATL. Gwinnett, Dekalb, Clayton, Fayette, Douglas counties and etc.

There is no way they can be accurate on that. Some people almost have to slave to survive. We were born in a world where success is based offf being a carbon copy of a white male. Controlled by the language, ideas, values, etc. If you are controlled by these things they can estimate how much it takes to survive.

One thing I can say about Detroit is when I was growing up the transit was pretty legit except the fucking 6 mile/ McNichols bus. Some of my wildest stories came from catching the bus

I ain’t been on the iron pimp (bus) in Detroit in ages I’m pretty sure it’s not the same now but growing up Before I had my car it was easy to maneuver around the city. Probably because Detroit on a grid system. When I first visited Atlanta it was a shock to me how bad the Marta system was.
