Help lost 10 pounds-Now I am stuck!

I use it all the time if my weight starts to climb and in general I eat like this (more or less strict depending). It's about to get warm so I'm stricter than December. I think the plan actually has a lot of flexibility based on what you enjoy eating and what your goals are. It's easiest for me to think in terms of serving sizes of non-leafy green starches sense that's what I'm most familiar with. I still eat pasta and bread, but I keep it to half a cup on a super low day or 1 serving. So for me it's just an easy way to control portions.

If you want to go from 12- 6% bodyfat that is a different story and requires you to be much more strict in how you define no, low, and high carb days. Either way I've found it's a good "middle of the road" approach vs. Strict low carbing that is difficult to maintain. Plus it really forces you to fill up on leafy greens. That's a good thing (unless you are on blood thinners).

See this is me I'm trying to lean out. So I'll be on the stricter program taking in a lot more protein. I've also increased my cardio and resistance workouts.

I like your approach it is flexible. Plus I found out about a year ago I love fresh spinach. If I have a meat sandwich fresh spinach is now my choice over lettuce. So filling up on leafy veggies won't be difficult at all. Thanks.

Izayoi, thanks for keeping the thread alive with great advice & bodybuilding.com is a great resource...

Thanks GYH. Bodybuilding.com is a great source. The forum is good too, BUT you have to sort through the road raginess and snarking.
It's not BGOL style madness, but it's still annoying. The articles are usually pretty good though.

You know I actually use shredded red cabbage instead of lettuce on a lot of stuff. Something they do at a lot of Japanese restaurants here and I realized it was pretty darn good even though it sounds strange. Shredded red cabbage is much less bitter than green cabbage and much more tender.

There's nothing wrong with lettuce though. Even if people do enjoy the pale varieties, it's still better than no lettuce at all. The pale varieties are mainly water, but that's also a good thing since most people do not get enough water. :)

I might just try using shredded cabbage as an alternative. It seems veggies and I are becoming friends.

I just did 3 1/2 miles running and walking w/ my little one..I cant feel my legs and feet-I will be back later on-I have a question for everyone about cutting out starches. I mean really cheese is a starch? Isnt it a dairy???

The run walk is a great combination! I love my cheese and while it is a dairy product, you can eat it in many forms, which will benefit you. I would have to agree, to stay off the empty calories mentioned. As far as fresh cheeses, I enjoy cottage cheese and every form of cheese my French heritage will allow! Eat everything in moderation...

I am back ya'll......Ok here is where I am and my goals:

I gained 2 pounds back...Is it water weight because of mother nature?? Or all of the cake I ate over the weekend for my daughters birthday?? TRAGIC!

I am walking and running every other day right now I am at 3 1/2 miles.
I am going to cut down on my starches:( I cant say how much all I know is I will stick to serving sizes and be more conscious.

I start African dance back next Monday-I will be going twice a week.

I am using my electric jump rope to knock out 200 a day. If I can do more I will...

Lastly...50 crunches EVERY NIGHT
And........
I will only look at my scale ONCE A WEEK!

**THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR ADVICE!!!!! KEEP THEM COMING!**

I will report my weight loss on the days I get on the scale.

((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGZ)))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Welcome back now lets look at your approach.

The 2 pound weight gain is probably a combination of all you stated. Its not tragic.

I know this might shock some but to lose weight you need to eat more but eat smart. 6 small meals a day. So there's no reason to be hungry while losing weight. You just need to make sensible food choices.

Dance for a woman is always good cardio.

Jumping rope is good but instead of just doing 200 make it part of your cardio workout. Lets say walk/run a mile then jump rope for 5/10 minutes. (This is just a suggestion.) Then continue with your walk. More cardio more calories burned.

Crunches/sit ups - although a good exercise it will not reduce your midsection. (neither will any advertised machine on TV ) A big misconception people have I don't want you approaching this with false hope then getting disgusted and quit. The best way to shrink your tummy and waist is through a proper diet.

Lastly understand the first place where you started to gain the weight is the last place you will lose the weight.

Stay strong you can do it!

Exactly! I loved France (the little time I spent there) and the food. :)

Don't you start!

I'm still doing proteins but more veggies and fruits than before. No breads unless they're whole grain. Diet modification became necessary. I'm actually eating more and losing weight. :D

Having a bad leg was a major limitation, cardio was major limiting me to the stationary bike and aqua aerobics. Who knows a 440 track might be in the near future.

HUSH!

Good drop GYH!

So those 2 pounds, I dropped plus 3 more. THAT MAKES ME HAPPY!
Dance class is tomorrow not tonight:confused:
About to go do my walk/run trying to figure out how to add my jump rope during this, while at the park?

**side note**
When I run I feel my butt bounce...I dont like that:hmm:

Again congrats keep it going.

BTW a bouncing butt is usually a crowd pleaser!

Yes! Stay away from the potato chips, potato salad, rice, breads (except whole grain) cake, pastas, and dairy (that's cheese too) because they all turn to sugar once in your system.

If your serious about losing weight your looking at a lifestyle change as far as eating. If you eat properly you can eat 6 times a day and lose weight.

You want to increase your protein intake. You want 1 gram of protein per pound you weigh. (BTW that's whey protein ) Why? Because protein helps burn fat. I also recommend vitamins and a protein supplement. Go to a GNC or Vitamin Shoppe and speak with someone there. You also want your meals to be high in protein. Chicken breast, steak, fish, eggs minus the yoke.

Be careful with the Weight Watcher and Healthy Choice type meals, they are loaded with sodium.

c/s "cut my calories" is definitely not specific enough. Gotta bring that diet all the way down to bare bones (naked food) and build slowly from there.

No news but had to come in and laugh-I love people who have hate so strong that they 1 star my threads....I see you;)

Measure? Like to see if I am loosing inches?

yes measure you waist your bust your hips etc and to see if you see a difference in any of those numbers as a result of your workouts.

you may not be dropping actually pounds per say but you may be turning fat into which would show in measurements

This is not entirely true. If you really want to lose weight you need to eat. Your body needs fuel to burn. So you need to eat. By eating I mean make sensible choices. There's no reason to go bare bones in fact you should be eating more often an that can still include (some) foods you presently eat.

Some people think by cutting back on meals or skipping meals they can lose weight. This is the worst thing you can do. Doing this could force your body into starvation mode. Cutting back on meals and skipping meals will slow down your metabolism. If this happens you will gain weight and gain it quickly!

First off before anyone decides upon a diet or strenuous exercise they need see a doctor. Your doctor may even have a few suggestions.

Anyone looking to diet needs to understand you need to feed your body in order to lose weight. In addition you need to include exercise and some cardio work. You want to keep your metabolism up. The higher your metabolism the more calories you will burn. Even when your not working out. To do this I suggest supplements. The reason is you want to lose fat not bone or muscle this is very important especially for women.

Try to time your meals lets say every 2.5 to 3 hours apart. Ideally 6 moderately sized meals a day.

These are examples:

1. Boiled egg whites (I usually have 5) lightly salted with cracked pepper

2. A whey shake (no Muscle Milk its loaded with fat)

3. An apple or banana would be considered a meal

4. A salad

5. Maybe a grilled chicken breast with steamed vegetables and a slice of whole grain toast

6. A light snack.

You may not like your tap water. Then add Crystal Light, great flavor without the sugar. You need to drink water lots of water. Try for a gallon a day.

Lastly rest lots of rest try to get 8 hours. Not getting enough rest can retard weight loss. So sleep is important.

Sleep is actually crucial. I do some work with sleep apnea sufferers and they rarely have the energy to do much exercise and almost all are obese. I tell them to get their sleep in order first (the new machines are much smaller than they used to be) and then concentrate on everything else.

Measuring is really good! I rarely weigh myself (maybe once a season), but I measure more frequently. I've lost inches without losing a pound. The scale weight will catch up. Plus you have to weigh yourself at the same time everyday to avoid the normal weight shifts.

Nice reduced cal diet Mo!

Thanks, the best thing about a diet like this is portions aren't that important, so you should never be hungry. I'm actually eating more food now than I can remember.

So apparently I am not dieting and exercising right...I passed out at the store shopping for Easter stuff. I remember talking to my boyfriend and him asking if I ate. Then I spoke to my mom right before going in the store and telling her I was a little light headed and dizzy....I was in there 20 minutes...I got hot, then sick and hit the floor......I gotta do better. I wasnt taking in the necessary calories I need to function.

First off, I hope you are OK? Be careful you must eat regularly. Exercising taps your bodies resources. You can't starve your body, engage in heavy duty workouts and remain healthy. No food equals no resources for the body, the body fails!

:hithead:
Secondly, Onyx you need to eat 5 to 6 small (balanced thought out) meals a day. I believe this was stated before. In addition you need to take a supplements.

Lastly see your doctor ASAP, then a nutritionist. This program your trying maybe too strenuous for you. Your fainting was no accident, listen to your body. I wish you the best and yes you gotta do better.

Try sprinting 40 yard dashes. Sprinting sparks your metabolism quicker, thus burns more fat. Also combine running with exercising with free weights. Lifting weight burns fat faster and longer. Also try not to work out longer than 30 minutes four days a week. One big mistake is alot of people think you have to exercise for hours to achieve their desired size. Plus if you run/lift weights with proper form and control, you get better results in half the time.

maybe you should go see a dietician. they can target your meals to you and your body. Check your health insurance web page they usually have options available and they pay for it.

Thanks everyone...This has been discouraging....:(

Don't be discouraged. You learned a valuable lesson. Extremes only work as a short term fix. What habits can you sustain for a lifetime of good health with your family and friends?

Agree with doggish- if you have hit a wall a knowledgable personal train or health coach/nutritionist, or RD may be helpful. My thing is find someone that embodies the goals you seek (why people pay money to go to a frail anemic looking RD or fat personal trainer is beyond me). If you are going to pay for a professional, find someone that inspires you! Those people are worth their weight in gold.

Ok...Thanks:)

Thanks everyone...This has been discouraging....:(

Don't be discourage, the first couple of pounds was fluid anyway. Now the next level is to break down stored fat, then turn it into energy. Whenever preparing food, reduce eating fried food, eat lean meat, season with hot peppers, cinnamon, and use or real sea salt (limited). If you get hungry between meals eat a piece of fruit, almonds, or cranberries. Be careful not to eat too much fruit because some are packed with sugar. The objective is to use your body as a fat burning machine even if your sleep or idle. These and other remedies help the process. Lastly don't fall into the trap of losing too much mass. Try to get tone. Losing muscle mass is very unhealthy and can have you looking like a hulk hogan today.

Hey all, I havent forgot about this!
I had surgery last week and now I am going to be down for at least another 2 weeks. But yep I will be back on my weight loss grind. Thanks for the support and all of the GOOD ADVICE!

You have to exercise your core. Abs, squats, push ups and running on a treadmill or track. Burn the fat and calories. Also sports like tennis, racketball, etc. that keep you moving will help.

Sent from your wife's Droid.

Try bike riding on a bike trail good way to burn off that excess weight and build up your thighs(I like to see how you look in bikers spandex!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D)
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
